Where do people recommend for going away for a few days or weekend?
Amsterdam is a popular choice, but there are plenty of others. Personally, I've only been to Amsterdam, and it was only for a few hours bwteen flight connections at the airport. I had a quick walk around and actually found it less seedy than I expected.
Of course you see all the scantily clad women in their small windows as expected, some of them were even quite pretty! But the people walking around this area appeared to be general tourists. Women as well as men, couples of all ages, and well-dressed people as well as the scruffs. OK, as I said, I didn't spend long, and I didn't enter any of the clubs or whatever, but it seemed to me quite a decent, albeit touristy area.
What about Grosse Freiheit in Hamburg? I remember reading a review of the place many years ago - it being a street (or area?) along which there are numerous strip clubs and similar. However, due to the number of similar places, in order to compete, not only did they have to put on top-notch explicit sex shows, but they also had to put on high-class 'straight' acts such as magicians, bands, dance troups etc...
In the review I remember reading about explicit sex acts performed not only on stage but also out in the audience at various tables (done in order that scenery etc. could be swapped on stage at the same time). The write of that review explained how he was invited to insert his empty bottle 'into' the actress who was splayed out in front of him on his table. he also described how members of the audience were invited up on stage to join in with explicit sexual acts performed by various other professional males and females. I reckon it'd take some guts to do that!
But he also described how fantastic the magic acts were, as well as the other balance, ventriloquist etc. acts. It sounded just like a place I would like to visit someday.
And now, many years later, I wonder how much it has might have changed. is it still popular and high-class or has it slipped down-market?
Has anyone been? What do you think of the place?
And what about other places? I'm keen to go somewhere for a few days, to experience such 'culture' in another country. But I have no idea where to go.....? Any ideas...?
