In light Of this appalling tragedy, should the people involved in this childs terrible death be sacked?
’s+death/
This poor child suffered untold agonies over its 17 month life, and was under Haringeys care and was on the child protection register. The list of injuries is horrific.
Haringey’s Sharon Shoesmith said " there would be no resignations or sackings over Baby P’s death ". I cannot believe that nobody will be made to answer for this. Was the Social Services social workers not aware of any of this? They must have known that the child was " at risk ". Where was the protection for this child, even though he was on the child protection register?
I feel heads should roll as mistakes are always said to be learned when this kind of thing happens, but it keeps happening. I feel that Haringey council should be prosecuted for child neglect.
An emotive subject obviously, but just wondered what others views on it are. The childs Mother should go to prison and never be released. How can you let this happen to your own child? dunno
When I read this story it brought a lump to my throat. The childs agony has stopped now but I still feel immense sadness.
Custodial sentence for neglect, dereliction of duty, duty of care?
I haven't read the article,and niether will I.
But I wonder why, when you have such a taste for contentious and evocative issues (no criticism for that) you don't find and use a politically motivated site to really get your teeth into?
Just a question.

I saw this on the news tonight - what an absolutely horrendous death for anyone never mind a young child.
The mother and step father should have a long prison sentence and the workers concerned (one a paediatrician)- I'm gob smacked that this child was seen by 2 days before death...bluddy well makes me cross!!

It all seems to be rather odd confused I guess along the way its something that has media hype ad infinitum attached to it and is far more a complex than at first glance. Of course these issues will of been cunningly omitted by the press to improve the 'News worthiness'
At the outlook though, this is a quite horrific happening and if all is quite as the media says it is then f*ck me something somewhere has to be done surely? Unbelievable neglect has taken place and some sort of corporate responsibility should be levied.

Did you see the child minder provided by social services on the news tonight? The last day she saw this little boy he had blood coming out of his ears. She'd reported stuff a number of times as well and nothing seemed to be actioned...crazy!

So much for lessons being learned from the last time. Why is it that nowadays nobody seems to be held accountable, and those that are always seem to blame somebody else.
They I hope are hanging their heads in utter shame tonight, though somehow I doubt it. What a waste of a child life.

Not read the the link, but from this thread, I have read that the mother and step-father will be held responsible. This is who people should look at and blame.

Not having a go at all here. Just when quotes are quoted it usually looks like an argument.......but if you stay with me you'll see where I am going here biggrin
I hear lots of people get upset when they hear that criminals blame their dad/mam/budgie/dog/not having an action man for xmas when seven/fill in any other reason/ when they go to court. This thread looks like instead of saying they should take responsibility for their own actions, it is now giving these people another excuse.
"It is ok mum and step-dad, we are going to nick the social services as they should have stopped you being evil bastards"
I have not read this story as it will be twisted by the paper and not have the full information to make a true judgement on. Now if the employer made a concious decision to ignore this girls plight then they should fce disciplinary (possibly criminal charges). If, however, they are overworked/not enough staff/insufficient training/insufficient supervision/etc then no that employee should not face criminal charges.

Seems social workers of that local authority had too many case loads to the norm of 14 - they had 20 each. So you may have a good point
What can I say?
I heard on the radio that the social workers involved in this case have been sent a strongly worded letter from thier employers.
They should be sacked!!!!!
I could write loads more but don't want to start a debate on the PC culture.
The mother should be steralised.
Parents should be lined up against the wall and shot....
And to be honest it suprises me that the SS aren't responsible(partly at least) for more instances like this....
At best they are incompitent(sp) and have no idea of what its like living in the real world....
All they see is their own special world where everyone and everything listens to reason and counciling cures all ills...
I'm not going to go into detail but I do speak from experience..
At the risk of being controversial,
You can't have it both ways,
Anyone remember the headlines when SS remove a child they thought was at risk, but really wasn't? The Cleveland abuse enquiry ring any bells?
By all means blame SS, in a utopic situation they wouldn't make mistakes....ever.
Unfortunately, this is reality, mistakes happen, judgement calls are sometimes wrong, sometimes things are missed. It doesn't make it right, but it does make it reality.
How many of us can hold our hands up and honestly state we have never made a mistake at work?
I'd suggest those whose mistakes don't and never will cost lives are the lucky ones.
I'd also suggest that those of you who think you could do a better job, (given the overload of work, the abuse, the threats and the almost obligatory trial by media that ensues should you ever make a mistake) give it a go, see how long you can stick it for.
Blame the creatures that carried this savagery out, seems the fairest way no?

If I made a mistake at work it could quite easily cost a life or lives even and I would most certainly be in court quick smart facing manslaughter charges...
Thats the responsibility that goes with the job and I accept that.....
If I didnt like the fact that I was to be held accountable for my ineptitude than I would obviously be in the wrong job...
Parents should be lined up against the wall and SS should be made accountable.....
I know of a case where SS stepped in to take a father to court for smacking his 15 year old son, after said son was smacked for lying to his father and stole from his mother for cigarettes after all other disciplines failed the father smacked him, SS brought this case to court I was there on jury services, case was thrown out of court. But this would have cost SS a lot of time and effort.
I believe their time and efforts would be better spent protecting the very vulnerable children as in this case.
Maybe then their work loads wouldn’t be as big.
I hope the parents are given hell in prison, a slow and painful existence at the hands of other prisoners. If I was in there I would make it my everyday task to administer the pain like they did to a helpless child.
SS and social workers should not only be sacked but charged with assisting and neglect as they made 60 visits to the child and let this carry on. Until social workers are held to account for what happens to children under their so call professional care, this will happen again and again.
How a social worker can carry on doing her everyday job after this has happened to a child she was responsible for, just shows what a cold heartless person she is.
Child abuse is one crime I would vote for the death penalty to be brought back
This story has been talked about in great detail today on the radio. It transpires that there were 60 yes 60 visits to this childs home. That equates to roughly one a week. How did these social workers miss these things, with all their training? It takes years to train as one and yet they seemed to miss basic injuries on this child.
I just cannot understand the legality of not being able to name the Mother and the Stepfather in this case. I know it would name the child, but that's a bit late now.
If I was a train driver and caused an accident through my negligence and people were killed I would be facing corporate manslaughter charges. Surely if this child was on the child protection register should he not have been protected from the very people that were thought to be inflicting injuries to him? dunno and not returned to them.
I have had dealings with social workers over my own Grandaughter which I will not go into, but I proved they were telling lies on more than one occasion. When I proved that they all ganged up and closed ranks. That is what is happening now where nobody will take the blame for the catalogue of massive errors.
I think the head of Social services at Haringey should be sacked, and that may well be the outcome if the public enquiry goes ahead, like it looks like it may. I say name the Mother publicly! She should be afforded the same protection she gave her own son...................Nothing!!
I hope the facts do not get in the way of a good hanging rolleyes
Nobody here knows what has happened in this case. They know that 60 visits have occured.........but the SS are not doctors, they see a dirty child covered in chocolate and baby rash cream. The SS act accordingly. The child goes to a specialist (i.e. doctor) and given the all clear. The SS act accordingly.
So would anybody here rip a child out of a family home after no evidence is availble? The SS can only go off what is seen and evidence from specialists.
I believe the doctor has been fired. So there has been somebody held accountable, and it was their job to look at the child. By the looks of this thread, most of the SS would have been locked up or sacked. That would help recruitment and retention if somebody not from your workforce fecks up but you end up getting the blame because it is a political and moral hot potatoe
