RESULT!
I changed something in my profile and whatever I did, it must have been good because I've not had a single hole filling PM today!!
I did get one from St3v3 that was quite dirty.......well ok, it was actually just a bit techie but it made no sense to me (doh) so I just pretended it was dirty instead! :twisted:

Maybe I've been lucky, but I've only had really polite PMs albeit uninvited. And when I've said no thanks, they've not bothered me again.
I appreciate how annoying it can be when you have a sig line specifically asking people not to PM you though.

Havenâ€™t these PMâ€™s always been a problem?
I canâ€™t think of a time when there was not a bunch of one line shite PMâ€™s or cut and paste prewritten chancerâ€™s circulars in my inbox and usually as a result of nothing more than appearing as logged in.
My delete button still works fine biggrin

I think I've been lucky up to now, it's very rare I get PM's and when I do it's usually after a munch where I've met new folk, and others now and again only from folk I've met and know - which suits me just fine!
Since August I havent had one speculative one-liner....no chancers...no wank-brigade... it's been great. When I open my messages I know there'll be something there from people I like to get messages from, someone just popping in to say hello etc, and that's much the same as the PM's I send out.
It might be sommat to do with the fact that I've been mistaken for a bloke on here ( redface

ops: ), but now I'm up there with the single bi-fem thing glowing in neon lights, well, lets just say the delete button has had some serious usage since Tuesday!!

Not to this extent though PL, I used to get a few now and then but with the new search facility I seem to have been included in every search going! Profile changes seem to be working now though, it's all gone quiet :D

Prior - around 6 per day (If I was logged on)
Now - around 4 per day regardless of being logged on or not.
However I did find putting my year of birth as 1927 and using a postcode for Outer Mongolia helped lol

forgive me for showing my ignorance here, i signed up to SH a while ago and was advised the best way to get chatting to people, get known etc was through the forum. i have been away a lot with work over the last few months so rarely had time to use the site and have seen the changes and the one thing people talk about is the fact that this is a pay site now or have i got it wrong? im sure its all explained somewhere but i just read 5 pages on this topic and my eyeballs have dried out. any info would be most welcome...... : confused

In a nutshell SH was taken over in mid November. Existing users were told that the site would remain free to them for the next year (at least). New members pay apparently

Hi all, I tried to post this to the forum a while back, but it didn't work for some reason, then I PM'd Mal directly but supect the site was all broken at the time. Sorry if you have all see this before due to bugs...
Mal, you wanted some ideas on how to help reduce abuse, here is one:
Let members set their profile to only allow PMs from a set of member types. For example a couple that do not want to be contacted by single males will simply never receive PMs from single males automatically. Naturally some idiots will setup accounts saying they are in a couple, but they can un-questionably be banned for lying if found out. From a legal POV (not that I'm an expert), this should be be worry-free.
This isn't a new idea (at least one other site use such mechanisms), so please accept my apologies if this idea has been done to death someplace on this forum before - sorry, I'm only a newbie!
