is it me or is the site going downhill?
In what way? And since when?
I've been away for a couple of years, and am missing the old faces and regular posters. It seems a lot quieter, but still not bad (I don't think I would be here if I wasn't getting it for free though).

If you do not renew at least you found us right at the end. Good luck in the future

Yep, even though I'm not looking for meets at the moment, there definitely seems to be less going on than when I joined five years ago.
If anything, I'd say the reverse - it's getting better!
The site enhancements - New Chat Room/Shrep etc are a great improvement.
Hang in there peeps.
Compared to when we joined.
Less munchs and socials by far
Less posts in the forum by far
More dull and pointless forum threads than before
Chat has enough people if its less or more matters not how many can you actually chat to at one time?
There are more features on the site than before. Extras is ok not sure I would pay for again though. Shrep is useful for seeing if people are genuine in some circumstances. These things are goo though I agree the site as in the community which is what makes the site has gone down hill. Gone down hill though is not quite the right phrase its just shrunk a bit. Maybe not in total numbers but in the forum and social side. However having said that if you look and wait you still can find events worth going to.

I have not been here long enough to know if its gone down hill
I would agree on the forums having lost, for reasons un-none to me, a lot of colourful and interesting characters that were here when I signed up

I promise you I never sat on them lol
People will always say that things were better in the old days and so I suppose the same could be true of SH. I remember the good old days in with me mate Grigori but that's another story .....
People come and go as they weave their way through the great tapesty of life. People change with time and times changes people. The colourful people of old leave, get bored for what ever reason and move on, and to some these become part of the golden age, but if you never knew them, have recently joined etc then you'll have your own particular set of colourful people and that in turn will become your golden age.
Finance obvioulsy plays a part in what gets organised as regards munched and socials, I've noticed that more are held in well known swingers clubs where if so many people don't turn up there's no financial hit. People can't continually take this hit if they're organising their own munch/ social and are therefore reliant on those that have confirmed actually turning up with their entrance fee. in the end if you can't meet costs you won't bother next time.
For socials most people who do actually go have also possibly booked a hotel for the night to allow then to drink and iron, again more expense and not every one can do that for every social they want to go to.
Finally although my membership is free, most newbies isn't, they either join for 3 months or a year. We now live in an age of instant gratification ... fast food, high speed internet, shops open 24/7 etc. I wonder just how many people join SH expecting an instant meet to land in their lap without any effort on their part etc and when it doesn't happen simply move on to another site without actually puttng anything into this one?
Enough rambling for now, its back to the ironing for me blink
Agreed to an extent Sinsi. This will be the golden age for some but then they haven't seen the past. What the past reveals very easily by looking at this website is that the forums as far less busy than they were at basically any given point in time. Take this date in 2006 for example, far more posts far more variety. Many various reasons for that I am sure in fact to many to debate.
Socials and munchs can incur a cost, they dont have too. If you are prepared to host and pay be prepared to loose it be prepared to be able to afford to loose it or dont put it up. We have not lost out financially from the 5 events we have hosted.

I enjoy your ramblings it saves me having to do them, I agree with you on both parts I have highlighted.
Socials I wouldnt know as never attended any.
I liked the first section btw I thought it had a poetic flair or I could just be tired waking up at and still dreamy.
The one thing that's guaranteed to put off anyone visiting this forum is posters constantly banging on about how things ain't what they used to be and how the place is going downhill. Can we please change the record?

Well said Max
I sometimes wonder whether swinging in the traditional sense is on the decline. I maybe wrong but would the youth of today be very interested in the swinging scene as much as the older generation.
Or are the younger generation more open to sexual promescuity that they no longer need forums or swingers clubs to act out 3somes or more somes.
I don't know as we are the generation above but it seams to use that the younger generation have more 'friends' who they would be willing to approach for a 3some without the fear or embarrasement that this would make them a social outcast in their normal friendship group.
'Friends with benefits'
It's not a conversation we could have with our friends if we wanted to without it intrinsicly changing the nature of how they view us and their opinions on us.
Even admitting bi or lesbian tendancies in our generation made you a social outcast along similar lines to the computer geeks. Nowa days just like with computers if you have not given a GF a snog you are more the exception than the rule.
Social norms are moving and maybe people are more prepared to put stuff on their facebook profile for free rather than have to pay a fee.
Also although numbers on swinging sites are always increasing, that is not always in terms of active people.
This site has 975,545 profile, but only 180,000 couple profiles and only 35,000 who have bothered to add a photo of any kind. If we then could search via active within last60 days. I'm sure the number would dwindle again to maybe 10k. Split that geographically and everyone is fishing in the same pool of about 1000 - 3000 active swingers who actually want to meet or have any discussions about swinging.
IMHO!!!!

i think the reason for less munches/socials is just down to cost and being able to afford to go to them. I love the social side of sh and seeing all the friends i chat with but unfortunatley i cant attend them all because it is so dammed expensive i wander if we could ask Mr Travel Lodge or Mr Premier Inn to do a sh deal lol

I was remembering last night as well one other thing about this which touched on Sinsi's moving on theory. At the last social we went too I was actually quite surprised to find out that quite a few old SH'ers are actually still in the scene and still in the social scene in fact very much so. Its not so much that people have left the scene they have just left here. That could be financial but then many were free members so there are obviously other reasons as well.

It`s actually got to the point where you can predict which thread will be at the top just by looking at the forum lists and seeing which user name is showing. I bet it makes them proud.
Yeh agreed, dunno about the proud bit though lol

Trying to ignore the forum posting digs (they post on them for fun btw :thrilledsmile and focusing on the this threads question I was wondering just how many swinging site were there available when SH first started? I bet it was less than there are now! I believe even Chameleons Club has a site now?! Choice is great but it can dilute the numbers of people on any one site. Think of TV channels, when I was young you had BBC, BBC2 and ITV - 3 channels for the whole of the UK population, now I believe there's slightly more than that! As a result the BBC's viewing figures as an example have dropped - again I remember 35 million watching at something at Christmas as a kid nowadays the top spot is taken 12.5 million.
Whats this to do with SH possibly "going downhill" well.... less people online in SH means less input to chat rooms, less input to forums etc etc and there's no longer a varied vast hot tub of sexy open minded intellects and dullards to air their views and voice their opinions, organise meets etc. Couple that with money constraints that people and the country find themselves in, double dip and all that - no not double penetration it's natural that things have to give or standards lapse.
Final thought of this rambling is what are we going to do to stop SH "going downhill" it's very much our site and needs our input, ideas to make it as good and exciting as possible for people to enjoy SH rather than moan about it.
