With regards to the new Extra's Features, I to have a view on these items much the same as those before me. The option of a stealth mode on webcams is very worrying on many levels. Most noticable with regards to the Data Protection Act 1998. If my interpritation of the act is correct this new stealth option does in fact fall foul of this and leaves the current owners in some serious legal issues. I've included what I feel are the two relivant parts to this and would appricate comments from everyone on this. I have highlighted some relivant points.
The Eighth Data Protection Principle
The Eighth Data Protection Principle states that personal data shall not be transferred outside the European Economic Area (EEA) unless the country to which they are being transferred has adequate data protection legislation. Personal data published on the Internet is available world-wide, including in countries without data protection legislation, and thus breaches the Eighth Principle. However, this principle does not apply when data subjects have given their consent to the transfer of their data. It is therefore important to ensure, before publishing personal data on the Internet, that the data subjects are aware of, and have consented to, publication. It is important to understand that, in this context, consent is only valid if the data subject is fully aware of the consequences of consent ie that their information will be available in countries where the rights of data subjects are not protected by law.
Webcams
The definition of personal data in the 1998 Data Protection Act includes physical or physiological attributes. Images captured by a Webcam can therefore constitute personal data. The operation of a Webcam will breach the Eighth Principle if images enabling individuals to be readily identified are broadcast on the Internet. The advice of the Information Commissioner's Office is that 'care should therefore be taken with the siting and operation of Webcams to ensure that the features of individuals remain indistinct, so that no observer could see a level of detail which would enable them to readily identify an individual caught on camera'.
Okay. the first part. I am sure that myself, and everyone else here that uses the chatroom, for use of a webcam has not given there consent for it to be broadcasted over the net. Yes I know that this might well be implied if you start up a webcam, but impling and have some tangible proof that you did are two different things.
Secondly, in the second statement with regards to the operation, this would directly affect the stealth operation, as you have no direct control of who is actually viewing your cam, so is IMO a direct violation of the act.
If my interpritaions are incorect then I appologize, but this is my view of it.
OK.... so if all these new fangled doodads, whatnots and thingumybobs are so bleedin' wonderful, why wont the feckin' chatrooms load now?
It was pretty flakey before and all we got was 'just you wait till the new sooper whizzo model is introduced'
Well its here and its arse!
Might be good if the feckin' thing worked.
I can't say anything positive about the new spam/wink feature, but I'm realistic enough to know that it will stay regardless so would admin mind giving some thought to give us the option of not recieving these or at least make the ignore feature work properly so we can actually ignore them.
The funny thing is that in a few weeks everyone will have forgotten how the rooms used to be. We will all calmly go about our daily pervery as if nothing has happened.
Remember all the fuss and Hoo Ha when the room changed hands a few months back? The world kept on turning, and the sky didnt fall in.
Lets not forget that this is a commercial site. If it sells it stays, if it don't its out. No amount of whingeing and bleating is going to change a thing. Learn to love it or walk on by.
ok stop the stelth/site upgrades this week/extra package cant they all be put together sick of jumping between posts here
