I can't sleep sad Have tried reading , had hot cocolate , done some ironing tried a few other things wink but nothing even thought of going down to our 24 's to do an early shop while himself is asleep. Can anyone HEEELLLLPPP please
The trouble with going shopping in the middle of the night is that they'll have sealed off the drinks section sad ... but I could do with some chocolate if you've got any left smile ... toast and marmalade is the thing I go for, and a strong cup of tea, then sit in front of the tv and watch Pretty Woman or Maid in Manhattan or some other romcom for the thousandth time !! That soon sends me to sleep! What would you watch?
If I lived nearer to you, I'd come shopping with you... biggrin :D
Do you know any meditation techniques?? Always makes me sleepy. Play an online game?? I use some of the ones on facebook. Sometimes I play scrabble with other members If I can find some still awake. Watch a film? Or BB confused :?
Anaisxx
Think I'd watch ummm the perfect storm, but unfortunately that wouldn't send me to at least I'd utalise the time enjoying you sleepless too? smile I'm just going to make you a good strong cup of tea and enough toast and marmalade for the two of us.
Not really sleepless ... just awake. I'm too lazy to go to bed, always sleep in an armchair or on the sofa; I know I'll drop off again when I get back there ... unless you keep me awake, lol! Having mentioned the toast and marmalade, I went and made some ... walnut bread and naughty butter and sicilian blood orange marm from m&s, pretty tasty... have a piece biggrin
Oh thanks ,I'd love Maybe we'll meet again some sleepless to bed now.
Well, that soon sent her to sleep ... or did it, lol? wink

HA! theres someone who hasn't been midnight/early morning shopping for a while... the majority (apparently tyhere are 7 Tescos in the UK that don't have the license) of 24 hour supermarkets now have a license to sell alcohol 24/7 ... Not gonna comment as to what I think of this...
I have spent many a night not able to sleep.. BUT I love it, once you accept it you get sooo much done... housework, ironing etc, I've learnt over the years to revel in my bouts of insomnia, stressing only makes it worse.
Good luck though
Now I'm awake and she's asleep!
Just on a point of order - I'd have complained if you'd watched Perfect Storm at 3am!
Anyway, you should've been shattered after yesterday evening!
cool
.
I know it's a little late, I have bouts of insomnia and I have found a few things that help.
Try to keep your eyes open, sounds daft I know but if you think of when you're driving and you're tired, keeping your eyes open is really hard; so fix your eyes on a point in the room and concentrate on it, you'll be surprised how quickly you feel tired and need to close your eyes.
Repeat a small word at irregular intervals to yourself. If you count and set up a pace you'll keep yourself awake doing it but repeating a word like 'it' or 'and' at irregualer intervals in your head stops your brain racing. I know, it sounds silly, I was sceptical too but it does work.
Pretend to be asleep. This one sounds even sillier. But in the same way that you can make yourself cheerup by smiling or make yourself confident by the way you stand. It's one of those psycobable techniques that actually works. 'Put yourself in the pose that you want to leave at'. Pretend to be asleep for long enough and you will be.
Failing all of those, keep a copy of 'Semiotics: the Basics' by the bed, by the time you get passed the introduction, you'll be unconsious.

i will try this, thoughts racing around my head keep me awake for hours
Audio books!
I can't go to sleep without putting a tape on, I like the half hour comedy ones, the BBC do loads - Dad's Army, Steptoe, Hancock etc.
You keep flipping them over every time you wake through the night, and it's like someone reading you a bedtime story.
It can take days before I get to the end of one side, because I'm usually conked out part way through.

That's so true. I tried counting sheep but I'm a bit OCD so I spent all my energy getting the sheep right. LOL
I found the best thing was to relax and not care if I slept or not and just enjoy being in my comfy bed and imagining being somewhere really relaxing on holiday.

H.x  ^^^^^This ^ post ^ has ^ really ^ good ^ sound ^ advice^^^^^ A lot of the above i know to be true and they're worth a shot giving them a go. Sleep is blessed.
I have for many years suffered sleep problems from insomnia to atrociously bad Sleep Apneoa. I have been to a few sleep clinics etc and have had a number of treatments to aid sleep. Including the drugs. Which were good granted and when i started losing my marbles in desperation a bout of them in hospital together with a cpap machine, without it.... Well god only knows what would of been.
Nowadays my Apnoea has totally gone thanks to surgery and my sleep is better than ever. I never need anymore than 4 hours sleep a day but getting there can be tough. Hence writing in forum at god knows what time of day or night.
My trick to get to sleep nowadays is too have a recording of 'waves crashing on the shore' going together with a fan blowing full tilt in my face for a half hour then timer stopped (thanks petesw i'll never forget that simple advice you gave me once re:-timer, so valuable) gets me to sleep anywhere anytime without fail.

 now why the hell didn't I think of this rolleyes when i think about the thousands of hours I've wasted stressing about not being able to sleep, and the thousands of pounds wasted on Vodka i've bought to remedy the problem drinkies :lol2: when in actual fact i could be putting the time to very good use.
thebrummies, you're a star and i'll love you forever kiss A simple change of attitude and all my problems are over, thank you so much

Being driven always makes me sleepy. Get himself to take you for a long drive northward, into England.

on then Stormie show me what I'm doing wrong please.I'd be forever in your debt.
Hun, if you're having trouble getting to sleep they usually say a warm bath and a milky drink before bed works. It does for some but not for others. Valerian drops are quite a good herbal remedy. I find if I wake up and can't get back, I go down and make a cuppa, play a couple of mindless games on the pc and try again, usually works a treat!
The worst thing to do in bed is read or watch tv.....ban books and tv from the bedroom! There's only 2 things you should be doing in there and reading/watching tv ain't either of em!
I keep my mp3 player near my bed with some very relaxing chill music on it. If I'm having trouble sleeping, I put it on quiet and it helps me to relax and drift off

Well, we'll leave a key on a string inside the letterbox and you can bring us a cuppa up to bed - if you leave about 3am, you'll be here for when we're getting up!
