G'day all
Today I have quit smoking  At 12:50pm, I slapped one of them patches on my arm and, apart from the fact I'm feeling quite anxious and a bit hyper, I'm doing OK.
I started smoking when I was 11 years old. Today, I thought to myself, wow that's 17 whole years I've been sucking on those things. I didn't enjoy smoking, I didn't enjoy the taste, smell or anything abut it.
I joined the gym last month and noticed the effect smoking was having on my breathing and my ability to exercise. And, to top it all, I've lost only half a stone too biggrin
Why am I telling you this? Erm, suppose to keep my mind off things. But :thrilled: I'm so chuffed with myself at the moment, I want to tell the world lol
Well done smile An so you should be chuffed too...
Its something Ive been wanting to do for a long, long time...
I did actually go tothe Dr's yesterday and asked for info about giving up. As I cant attend any of the smoking clinics they saw it as a waste of time at the moment to give me access to support. So I shall be going back later in the year... thats if I cant do it on my own in the meantime.
Best of luck with it... :)

Good on you.
I gave up on 17/2 and apart from borrowing a couple from a friend last week, haven't had any. Felt awful when having and after them!
The craving has gone. don't use patches or nicotine gum, but find mint Tic Tacs quite useful when wanting one. Also reckon that I have saved about so far (20 a day at )
Thanks to all biggrin
Almost 3 hours now, still feeling jittery.....
Mr What doesn't like being relogated to the kitchen when he wants a smoke but sod him lol
The first 20 years are the worst, after that, the cravings are easier to handle biggrin
I gave up smoking one morning and didnt do it again for 12 years. i started for 1 month and just stopped again. It was easy.
Sadly, drink is different. I drink very little, certainly less than most people i know, but its not something i can give up completely

Aaaah bless ya kiss if anyone says to you it's going to be easy, don't believe them. Sorry but you need to know it's hard work but well worth it in the long run.
I gave up 4 years ago with the help of patches. I was smoking well over 20 a day and it was killing my chest and our pocket. I went with the patches like you and my first day was horrible, all I could keep thinking about was a fag. BUT, by the time I went to bed I felt fantastic, it was the first whole day I'd managed.
I did put on loads of weight but that was my own stupidness as I started drinking wine every night to replace the fags! But here I am 4 yrs on and I feel better for it.
You will feel jittery, you will feel depressed, you may even feel sick and tired, it's all just the detox over this 48 hrs. Stick with it, you'll be fine, just keep giving yourself a pat on the back every hour that you are passing, as a non smoker!

Thank you Mar for the encouraging words smile
It is now six hours since I had my last cigarette. The anxiety has gone a bit but my throat is feeling rather sore sad I'm trying to work out ways to keep my mind off the smokes now evening is setting in and I'm worried I'll want a ciggy after the kids have gone to bed confused
GoodonyaWaddyalike2do
I'm 4 weeks ahead of you - still doing good, and still rather proud of myself :smug:
Keep at it - can't say it gets easier, cos, as I said, I'm only 4 weeks in myself, and still on the patches, but keep at it
kiss
Way to go  the minutes turn into hours, then days then weeks and before you know it you'll be wondering what to spend all the extra money on kiss

Why is it when things are going well, something bloody happens to make you so stressed you could stick 20ciggys in your mouth at once?!?!?!?! The flipping belts gone on the washing machine mad

Dont stress over it, its easy to fix.
Pull out machine, switch off, remove back, clean up old shredded bits of belt, get machine details or look for number on old belt, go to local spares shop, get new one, use screwdriver to lever new one on whilst turning the pulley wheel, replace back, switch on and try
DO NOT resume smoking, its not worth it :x
Crikey Gemini, are you Wonderwoman? lol
Thought I'd give the National Stop Smoking Helpline a ring. The lady informed me to put something in my mouth. She also told me to stop drinking coffee and tea as the caffeine will be triggering receptors in my brain.
I will NOT have a smoke but I'm starting to feel really agitated. Apparently that'll pass in a few days. My mouth feels like the bottom of a parrots cage but I have now been without a cigarete for 7 hours and 13 minutes biggrin :D :D :D :D :D
still going?
lp
Well if its any consolation to anyone whos going through giving up something at the moment, not a drop of drink has passed my lips for 68 hours.
Unlike smoking, the first few days are the easiest, but im not trying to stop completely, just cut down and the best way is to have nothing
Well I had one ciggy late las night, which I felt really shit about. I've been up 2 hours now and whereas before I would have had 3 or 4 smokes, I havent't had one. Don't feel the need smile
Just had the washing machine repair man out and he couldn't find a fault with it. Maybe it was a nightmare I had confused Feel like a pillock lol
Good luck with quiting ..i did a few years ago for 10 months saved enough money to go to barbados then started a month after i got back but i know id never be able to fly for that long if i hadn't given up at the time
Debz xxxx
Well done whatyalike! Keep it up and do what you have to to get throught it, if you put weight on, so be it, you can deal with that issue at a later date.
Good for going for it.

Hi all
Yesterday I found myself doing something absolutely gross rolleyes Because Mr What still smoked, I would pick apart the nub ends and roll a new ciggy. I had 2 yesterday morning sad Anyway, yesterday afternoon I realised I needed something else to occupy my mind (and stop me doing the nub-end thing), so i scrubbed the house and did all the washing. I also emptied and washed the ashtrays, thus taking away my other problem.
So, right now, it has been 24 hours and 12 minutes since my very last smoke.
My mouth feels dreadful still :( and I'm developing a wet cough. I'm now going down the gym to work off the agression I'm feeling. Catch you all later x biggrin x :D x :D x :D
Well Im on day 12 now - on that new drug Champix.
An interesting time.
