Some things are harder to do alone

I am currently decorating and getting increasingly frustrated, I've always decorated but always had a person helping me , alas this time I am on my tod and wishing I hadn't started it.I never appreciated how handy it is having someone to measure off the paper at the bottom or give that bit half way down a tug because its stuck to the wall before I wanted it to grrrr and of course the pasting of the paper but I guess once it comes to laying the flooring I will think this has been a doddle. What do u think is harder alone , just so I can add it to my list of don't try this alone.
do what some of my friends did joy... have a painting/decorating party.... if you can supply countless teas and coffees people will come round and help!!!
When we have decorated Mrs777 normally pastes the paper and I hang it.
Yes it is much easier with two people and as I hate painting and she likes it, it does make it a bit more bearable to do.
i just stick to one rule when decorating ..... never ever use wallpaper, just paint the walls, much better, less hard work, easy to do on your own too smile
i know one of the reasons people use wallpaper is to cover up imperfections and bumps on the walls but i have an old house so i view them as part of its history :)
one thing i find hard to do on my own is the food shopping, i dont live alone but usually do the food shopping alone but the trolleys are so hard to push especially when filled with enough food to feed a football team lol
i am at the moment nursing a very painful back, hip, knees and elbow from a visit to tesco sad
I actually trained as a Painter and decorator. Hated every second of it with a passion  I hated it so much I now never do any and pay someone else to do it instead. Always get funny looks when I tell them I am a trained painter decorator but at least they probably keep the standards up a bit lol Dont think Ive painted anything now in about 6 years, a triumph in its self biggrin
I thought this was going to be a thread about that old story about doing up zips on the back of garments. Actually, I prefer to do decorating on my own.

I'm trying to make a bed... no, I'm not going to go off into the realms of the struggle with duvet/cover... but the frame, and make it in such a way as it folds up against the wall out of the way... a 'wall-bed' indeed! (but not something which straps me virtically to a frame or somesuch like a dungeon frame, or NASA contraption. I have other ideas for that.
It can be a little dificult maneouvering the pieces around, particularly in such a small space... I live in a damp shoebox... but hey... if anyone were around me whilst attempting to do it... the atmosphere would not be good... and Im not refering to the airborne spores.
I like doing this sort of thing alone, that way I only have to meet my own standards... and timescale... I estimate this will be finished in about a month... after all, I've only been thinking about it for approximately nine years.

having been single for sometime i find it gets easier with time to do stuff on your own and there is a greater sense of achievement when you,ve finnished, i do all decorating, some plumbing but draw the line at electrics (unless changing plug, bulb etc)
i quite like shopping on my own coz i can oggle the single fellas and my son doesnt fill the trolley with crap lol
the hardest thing i find doing on my own is walking into a pub lol
but yeah the point about wallpaper i agree with, I stripped the house of paper finally and just paint, its so much easier
lots of pro's n con's to being single, mostly i enjoy it but another hard thing is if no plans on saturday night and staying in watching dvd, drinking wine, candles burning on my own .....sad so just log on get in chatroom and hey presto no longer alone lol

DIY is one thing I have never understood. There are few things I hate more. get a professional in to do it.

not everyone can afford to pay a professional to do the DIY for them also some people, even if they can afford it, like the sense of achievment when they do it themselves smile
im lucky that finacially i can afford it but we, as a family, like to do stuff like that together :)

I know how frustrated you must be Joy it's a struggle - I always did these things anyway when i was with someone and he was not a bit of help, but somehow it is still harder cos now I haven't the spite of temper to do it lol.
I used to get so angry that I was struggling and that he could sit there and do nothing to help, that I somehow managed anyway!
When he moved out I tore the bedroom apart and haven't done any more of it and my living room is in a state of half decoration - both have remained like that for ages and what I am struggling with is the motivation to finish it.
Working full time and having a new thing called a social life doesn't help - I just don't seem to have the time, and when I have time, I am just too tired.
I could use some help too lol

I've made my bed, and now I'll lay in it.
(thing is, I have to rebuild all the other nonsense previously constructed to have it in a practicable position!)

i like painting just half way through my 8 doors in my new place, but i love it.
sense of achievment and all that. puting shelves up going to build my own smokers cover around my back boor and stop the drafts aswell, save the planet and all that !!
so if you need a hand and willing to give me one in return feel free to ask lol.
i may be pers persawed persauded bah!! spelling crap still!!!!
things i hate wallpapering and wanking on my own funny enough!!
I do this all day every day, Its easier on your own.
If you need any advice just ask

i find cooking for one is such a chore, much prefer cooking for more and u tend to waste less, most supermarkets don't cater for single ppl, not that iam single far from it, but there is time when one of us is at work, so tend not to cook meals and more likley to grab a snack
I pay other people to do stuff for me, all by myself.
But that is after many many years of renovating houses while working full time, all by myself. I never wallpapered to be fair - I hate the stuff. I stripped tons of the awful stuff off though.
Now that I am with Worlass she attacks everything with the gusto of a small child and an equal amount of skill and co-ordination. It takes more than patience to smile through it.
Another thread made me think - - -
Rimming - something else that is hard to do on your own. biggrin
Well Thor beat me to the offer of help and Foxy beat me to the comment about rimming. Damn it I was burning my cheese on toast ( cos you cant do that and browse SH on your own lol ).
Tell you what, I'll help you decorate if you help me with the rimming. I nay even throw in cheese on toast too ;-)
mmmmmm lets concider this a moment rimming in exchange for decorating services, will soldier on for now but thanks for the offer...........the decider was the burnt toast
