I'm in a soppy mood and I know we've had lots of threads about musical tastes but I'm not sure this one has been done before.
What particular ONE song is guaranteed to bring a tear or two, to the eye?
It would be good if some of the men in the cafe could actually admit that a song can make them shed a tear but I don't think that'll happen!
I've had many favourites over the years and it's really difficult to choose one but I think I'll go with Bette Midler - Wind beneath my wings. (Incidentally I love the film Beaches - makes me cry every time!)

Oh I can't listen to Mike & the Mechanics 'The Living Years' without bawling.
An amazing song that just gets me every time.
Yep, will go with your Bette Midler song too, beautiful.
Ye I know the feelin about being in a soppy mood, the only song I've ever cried to was by Craig David (hey im only human) and is called 'you don't miss your water til the well runs dry' off his second album what a classic biggrin

I cried when I went to see Beaches - mostly cause I dropped my box of Malteesers on the floor and they all rolled away. I was gutted
I can step up as a fella and say what songs bring a lump to my throat .
Jerusalem every time
The Gale , but only when actually accompanied by Braveheart the Movie
and anything by Gareth Gates brings tears of laughter to my eyes .
Peace G
my immortal by Evanescence it has so much meaning it makes me cry every time

I agree with you on Mike and the Mechanics - Listening to it now and can feel the tears welling up!

I love that song too - The first time I heard it I loved it.
I've love to be able to write or sing something that has a lot of meaning to it to lots of people - though admittedly my singing makes people cry.............with laughter!
biggrin
I attatch vivid memories to music. For evert peice of music I like or don't like I usually have a memeory to go with it. Strange how this can be triggered.
My teary song is tears in heaven by eric clapton.
If this doesnt get me bawling my eyes out then REM' s "everybody hurts" does the job.
'In my Father's eyes' by Clapton from his album 'Pilgrim' - STILL can't listen to it all the way through.
Haven't heard it for almost 5 years when it came on the radio without warning. I was driving at a very high speed on the Coast Road linking Newcastle to Tynemouth when that happened and I was forced to pull over at a petrol station cos the tears were just spilling out of my eyes.
sad
James Taylor and Carly Simon's "Devoted To You" gets me tearful every time...
Mike.
'Nothing Compares to You' - Sinead O' Connor - I know it is designed to do it but it gets me every time.
I had another episode last night when we were listening to the 'Made in Heaven' album by Queen, which incidentally I had bought in a second-hand shop on the strength of a recommendation on here about the guitar solo (so thanks whoever said it). I opened the album sleeve and spread it out double on the table and there was Freddie, fist in the air, in silhouette, alone on the right half of the page and the other three, backs to the camera, were on the left facing out over an empty lake. Suddenly the poignancy of the image hit me and I was off. Soppy bastard.
Another potential little classic from Onlyme - thanks .

Im sorry but im afraid soppy songs don't do it for me!
I nearly vomited when we went to a wedding and they had atomic kittens whole again for the wedding dance!!!!
We had Madness it must be Love for ours, happy does it for me more than Soppy!!! lol
My tear jerker song is "Castles In The Sky", Ian Van Dahl...................................
Do you ever question your life?
Do you ever wonder why?
Do you ever see in your dreams?
Oh the castles in the sky.
Oh tell me why?
Do we build castles in the sky?
Oh tell me why?
Are the the castles way up high?
Please tell me why? .................................................................
This song came out when my nanna passed away alone in a Casualty Department and she was buried on the fateful day of September 11th ..................................................... In my dreams I hope that my Nanna and all those who died on 9/11 are in a lovely castle in the sky, pain free and happy xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

My Mum died of breast cancer and we played Wind Beneath My Wings at her funeral and also Queen's The Show Must Go On.
Can't listen to either of them now without tears in my eyes and often running down my cheeks

Any one got any hankies!
R Kelly - If i could turn back the hands of time ........ As a kid I spent some time living with my Grandparents - so we were very close and they were both really young so really energetic and fun people. They meant the world to me (still do).
My nan died suddenly on Xmas Eve last year and the first song I heard the next morning was this song. My grandparents had celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the end of November and that was the last time I'd seen her, although we had planned to spend a day with them on Boxing Day, so i never got to see her one last time.
Even thinking of the song has me in tears sad
Morbius & I had three songs played at our wedding, Barbara Streisand & Bryan Adams - Finally Found someone (which we call our song), Dolly Parton - I will always love you (much better than whitney's verson and brings a lump to my throat) and Bruce Hornsby & the Range - The way it is.
I used to cry about "If you don't know me by now" by Simply Red. Bloody men! It came out when I was pregnant with my eldest and was always in the slow songs at the end of any night out so I'd have to go home alone and in tears.
I eventually got over the t*@$ so it doesn't make me cry anymore, but it took me a long time until I could listen to it. It does still make me think of him though except now instead of crying I'm just grateful that I didn't have to spend the rest of my life with a bast@rd like him cool
The only other one that brings a lump to my throat is Aerosmith, I don't wanna miss a thing. My friend had this played at the funeral of her 2 week old son and I've never been able to enjoy it after that
REMs Everbody Hurts always gets me. It's one of them songs that make me feel so helpless. Doesn't make me cry for myself like other songs. It makes me see other peoples pain, when you see someone close who is hurting so bad and you can't do anything to help them......
When the day is long and the night, the night is yours alone,
When you're sure you've had enough of this life, well hang on
Don't let yourself go, everybody cries and everybody hurts sometimes
Sometimes everything is wrong. Now it's time to sing along
When your day is night alone, (hold on, hold on)
If you feel like letting go, (hold on)
When you think you've had too much of this life, well hang on
'Cause everybody hurts. Take comfort in your friends
Everybody hurts. Don't throw your hand. Oh, no. Don't throw your hand
If you feel like you're alone, no, no, no, you are not alone
If you're on your own in this life, the days and nights are long,
When you think you've had too much of this life to hang on
Well, everybody hurts sometimes,
Everybody cries. And everybody hurts sometimes
And everybody hurts sometimes. So, hold on, hold on
Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on
Everybody hurts. You are not alone
lol
I know TE, I feel everso sad now

After listening to old Eagles tracks...How about....
Desperado
Desperado, why don't you come to your senses?
You been out ridin' fences for so long now
Oh, you're a hard one
I know that you got your reasons
These things that are pleasin' you
Can hurt you somehow
Don' you draw the queen of diamonds, boy
She'll beat you if she's able
You know the queen of hearts is always your best bet
Now it seems to me, some fine things
Have been laid upon your table
But you only want the ones that you can't get
Desperado, oh, you ain't gettin' no youger
Your pain and your hunger, they're drivin' you home
And freedom, oh freedom well, that's just some people talkin'
Your prison is walking through this world all alone
Don't your feet get cold in the winter time?
The sky won't snow and the sun won't shine
It's hard to tell the night time from the day
You're loosin' all your highs and lows
Ain't it funny how the feeling goes away?
Desperado, why don't you come to your senses?
Come down from your fences, open the gate
It may be rainin', but there's a rainbow above you
You better let somebody love you, before it's too late
- just a gurl

I was getting upset reading everyones posts trying to work out which of my favourites affected me most. I have a few songs that will set me off according to the mood I'm in.
This one has me in tears
Dawn :silly:
Oh Pretty Flamingo!!! I never knew the title to the song and up until about 5 years ago always sang the words 'where did the wind go'rolleyes redface surprisedops:
Was only when someone saw me singing along to it when out one night that I found out ..... but not before he had picked himself off the floor laughing and finished telling the rest of the pub
The song that gets me everytime without fail is "I know it's over" by The Smiths. This song feels so personal to me I just breakdown eveytime.
I know It's Over by The Smiths
Oh mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head
and as I climb into an empty bed
oh well, enough said
I know it's over still I cling
I don't know where else I can go, mother
Oh mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head
see, the sea wants to take me
the knife wants to slit me
do you think you can help me?
Sad veiled bride, please be happy
handsome groom, give her room
loud, loutish lover, treat her kindly
although she needs you more than she loves you
And I know it's over
still I cling
I don't know where else I can go
it's over, it's over, it's over
I know it's over
and it never really began
but in my heart it was so real
and you even spoke to me and said:
"If you're so funny
then why are you on your own tonight?
and if you're so clever
then why are you on your own tonight?
if you're so very entertaining
then why are you on your own tonight?
if you're so very good looking
why do you sleep alone tonight?
I know because tonight is just like any other night
that's why you're on your own tonight
with your triumphs and your charms
while they are in each other's arms"
It's so easy to laugh
it's so easy to hate
it takes strength to be gentle and kind
it's over, over, over
It's so easy to laugh
it's so easy to hate
it takes guts to be gentle and kind
it's over, over, over
Love is natural and real
but not for you, my love
not tonight my love
love is natural and real
but not for such as you and I, my love
Oh Mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head
Oh Mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head
Oh Mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head
Oh Mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head
Oh Mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head
Wow, what a sensitive bunch we are!
Some of your stories had me welling up........ I won't post another thread like this again......it's not good for me to be seen crying in front of the pc!
I do think it's good to look back at things that have happened in our lives, good or bad, it gives a certain kind of perspective.

biggrin
Oooh you soppy thing you. I want to give you a big hug hump oops sorry finger slipped smackbottom nup! :therethere: God I'm shit at these emoticon thingies (I bet Ice thinks I did this on purpose) What? What??
