Ok, totally off topic but I got a mate who's tearing his hair out over this ( and bless, he hasn't got much to begin with confused ) so I want to pick the brains of you lot, if you don't mind.
My mate has just received an NIP for doing 46mph in a 30 zone, caught by a mobile speed gun. He already has 6 points on his licence and is worried this may affect his car ( and bike for that matter ) insurance. The stretch of road he was caught on used to be 50mph but it was reduced when the roadworks started ( seemingly 3 years ago ! ) He admits he was over the speed limit but the possible hike in his insurance ( and the threat of losing his bike licence as he's been riding for less than 2 years ) is very worrying as it could affect his business.
Any help/advice would be most welcmoe. Thanks guys and gals
kiss
Yes, it will affect his insurance and he needs to tell them when the points are put on, not wait for his renewal, as it could invalidate his insurance if he doesn't disclose it.
Tough shit, really, shouldn't have got caught!

There is a website dedicated to all the tips and tricks of getting off a speeding fine. Can't remember the name of it but a good Googleing might find it.

The thought should really be ..... shouldn't have been speeding!
Sorry but if you can't do the time (or pay with the points) don't do the crime!
It's ok pulling your hairout after the event, but a bit of care would have prevented it!

True hun and even he realises that but the sneaky bathplugs have set up these cameras on a stretch of road that has had the speed reduced by 20mph and they seem to be making easy money.
That said, it's not so much the getting caught but how it's going to affect the insurance.
Yes to everything they need to know soon as and yes it will affect next years preminum can't see him losing his bike licence as far as I know. Points don't ya just love em I went years without a single one then racked up 12 in 18 months   ended up having to go to court to ask nee beg for my licence to be extended due to the fact that my lively hood depended on it. However my licence is now sitting pretty with none on it and fingers crossed it's bloody well stoping that way (I'm older and a lot wiser) biggrin :D :D
i once got out of a speeding ticket....i rang them up and said that i had never been to were they cought me....but the lady said that they have a pic.....so i told them to send it to me..which they did.
then i wrote a very long letter to them ( i am currently on a law degree...there are second nature lol) saying that i had never been to that place ever....and they didnt reply...n this is abt 2yrs later and iv had nothing!
it seems it would cost them too much to persue it and its probly not worth the hassle for them....
tell your mate its woth a try!
nothn to loose!
smile :) :)
I had none for years and then picked on 3 on the M1 in roadworks (average speed check of 57 in a 50mph - junction 21ish rolleyes ) last Summer and another 3 about 2 weeks ago on the A1(M) near Durham - very nice copper but wasn't going to let me off - 83 in a 70mph zone!
So I've got 6 now for the best part of 3 years - yes, his insurance will go up and yes you can lose a new licence if you pick up 6 points within the first two years of getting it, although there seems to be some confusion over bike licences with a car driver who's held a full licence for years.
I only know this as I got my bike licence last summer (just after the 3 points so they don't count) and I've only had the chance to ride about 3 times so far. It would seem bizarre that could lose my bike licence for offences picked up in the car... when I enquired I was told that there are specific bike related offences that can count.... none the wiser really confused
Yes it has slowed me down and yes my insurance has gone up evil
Sassy
I stronglyrecomend checking out a site called before your friend does or signs anything!

Are the speed signs temporary ones and are they just a white circle surrounded by a red circle or do they have a yellow background?
If they have a yellow background you're in luck as they do not meet legal criteria
As with everything - I'll give a very hearty disclaimer on this - but at the end of the day it's been used increasingly, and you really have nothing to loose
If the Registered keeper is not the driver, he should complete, sign and return the NIP naming the driver. Then, when the named driver subsequently receives their NIP, they may wish to use the following procedure.
However, if the Registered Keeper was driving at the time of the alleged offence, there is nothing preventing them from completing a similar witness statement.
It is advisable to write on the blank and uncompleted NIP/S172 notice only the following words: “Please see the attached” - then attach it to the following statement and return them both via Special Delivery.

Dear Chief Constable,

Lack of concentrating I have to admit and following the flamin cars in front of me which were doing more than me, and I get caught !
MrFC swears and spews when a camara goes off and he thinks he may have been caught !! As yet, he is a lucky begger, evil
So I had to change my cv from " clean" to "full" driving licience.
bet you can clock up a few points in a plane!

Now that I would do biggrin
What do points make ?
Not feckin prizes - that's for sure ! ! !
When I was young, dumb and full of cum; and stupid; I used to collect the old fashioned endorsements.
The very day before I married Mk I (so it's a while ago redface ) I was in front of the beak - again.
Fucker only decided to convert all my current endorsements to points, and the gave me another THREE ! ! ! !
I think it's a 3 month ban for 12 points ?????
Because of the conversion and the points he'd given me - Fucker banned me for EIGHT ! ! ! !
That was early 80's and I've had a clean licence since apart from a weight limit offence that I managed to get removed

And me!!!
Mike  lol
Its a bit late but I did go through a well known mobile site at around 35 in a 30 realised what I had done so turned around and went back pulled up alongside and asked the guy if I had just been done.... He said yes 36mph a 3 pointer and a fine.. I thinking its worth a go just asked him straight out if it could be quashed in anyway.. he just laughed and said for your cheek and deleted it off the system in front of me..
Imagine if everyone stopped at every mobile site and pestered em.... Wonder how long they would carry on??
Worked for me!
Also for those who say tough shit etc etc How many of these Mobile sites park and operate illegally anyway... Most round here block pavements park on double yellow lines on bends bus stops etc etc etc..... One rule for all I say!!
Its a proven FACT that its all about money and not safety. Grrrrrrrrrr lol.
Mike x
I may have a 3 pointer coming up due to trying to stay safe on the roads and speeding up to aviod and accident!
Yes it was another mobile camera site hidden in the bushes. The bastards have to paint the static ones yellow so you can see them but can hide in the bushes with mobile ones!
If I do get a NIP through I will be using the Frank vs France letter as I know a few people that have got off with them, as the coppers cant be bothered chasing you for the ticket.
The other method is to play the run around for 6 months. Send you letter in on the last day (28days) then if they send anything esle out ask for a calibration cert. Then ask for proof of the offence, keep this going for 6 months and they are not supposed to be able to follow the photoevidence after 6 months.
Yes he will lose him motorbike licence if hes only had it for under 2 years and gains 6 points. It would be worth argueing that the offence was in a car not on a bike. So why should he lose his bike licence. confused:
I for one if I lose my licence with these terror tactics, will register my cars and bikes in other names and still drive or ride. I was never one to condone driving without a licence but I have come to the point that I feel that they are forcing people into that situation and I will do it. I will lose my job and home if I lose my licence so stuff em! evil
It's a pity people don't put as much effort into keeping within the law as they do to break the law.
So you'll quite happily drive without tax and insurance, just because you got caught speeding? How pathetic!

I had an unusual experience with a speed cam. I was riding a motorcycle . I stopped at traffic lights in the rhl ( as having acceleration I figured I could beat the traffic in the left lane and pull over to the left while still within the 50 mile limit.) However a "boy racer" wanted to play and took off like the usual bat... I was still doing 50 on entering the speed cam zone but the "boy" undertook me in the left hand lane considerably faster ! tripped the cam and so I got a ticket. However I did argue that fact and so only got a letter warning me about the dangers of speed ! Trouble is that in my experience there is nothing wrong with driving fast provided people think ahead. And there seems in this country a sort of mentality that roads are some sort of endless race track and other drivers must be beat .

Apparently you too have the mentality (in red) you speak of (in bold) confused
In case you're wondering, and I did, about how these 'average speed check' zones work which they seem to be using much more these days in preference to fixed speed cams ... the cameras are recording number plates, so by comparing the times when you pass all these cameras - they can calculate what your average speed is so it's no good slowing down just before a camera and speeding off afterwards ... wonders of technology eh?
I got 3 points on my licence a few months back doing just over 40 in a 30 zone ... wasn't intentional as given the road itself, I expected it to be a 40 zone mad Been very cautious after that - just not worth the points for a few seconds saved.
Bit worried that I got stuck in a bus lane yesterday - big stretch from Warren Street up through to Baker Street - traffic 'chocker' on the main lanes and no bugger letting me in! Think it's monitored by police video.

Terror Tactics....bit extreme!!......try living in a country with hardly any human rights and your know what terror is for FFS.....So your considering registering in a different name,i can't beleive the mentallity of you.....you do that and then hit someone.....what do you think will happen then.....??......one simple solution..... stay below the speed AS THAT!
It just so pisses me off when some people want to blame everyone else but themselves!
My point is that having the vehicle to safely do this is negated by a driver of a vehicle that is clearly acting recklessly. I was not looking to race as I could have easly acceletated to silly as this was a duel carraigeway it was safer to stay in that lane at the lawful speed. It would have not mattered if I had slowed down as the guy was flooring his car and although puling over into the lefthand lane in front would be a ligitimate procedure, the thought of getting hit from behind would not seem to be a very good time to assert my right to do that ! After the guy realised the was a cam he then hit the breakes ! and had I have been behind him no doubt I would hit his rear ! I didn't however break any law as it was the entirely the driver of the other car that tripped th The resulting photo would at first look like I was overtaking HIM ! and at a recless pace !
I wonder, would this have happened if you'd been in the right lane to begin with?

Quite possibly not - he was obviously in the wrong lane intending to beat someone away from the lights.
