Is it just me? Do other people not think to check their spelling before posting? Is it really that difficult to hit spell-check if you know your spelling leaves more than a little to be desired? Especially if you persistently spell the same words incorrectly! Even little 3-letter words!
I accept that even I occasionally misspell words, especially if I am typing too fast for my 2 poor index fingers to keep up. But every time a blatant error crops up, a little red wiggly line appears under the word to highlight it! I know that won't help if you have spelt a word wrongly but the mistake you have made is another actual word, but it doesn't take very long to re-read what you have just typed to see if it all looks right before submission, does it?
And breathe............

I'm an idiot poster when it comes to checking fluff sometimes it defies belief. I used to check once upon a time but nowadays i'm faintly amused at how bad i can be. Sad I know but hey. biggrin

Think that happens when the typist gets worked up wink but yup when it happens over and over i'd agree with you Fluff
<goes off remembering to use spell checker in future for fear of my Jaffa Cake supply being cut off lol>
Ok, Ok. Hands up all those who KNEW that I would HAVE to reply to this! rolleyes redface
Personally, I take care to check my spelling (and my punctuation - but don't get me started on that mad) and I am always attracted by people who do the same. But then, I am fortunate that I have always been good at spelling and went to schools that were really strict on punctuation and grammar so I have no excuse. However, not everyone's that lucky and I would hate anyone to feel that they couldn't post because their spelling/grammar/punctuation isn't up to it. I like reading what most people on here have to say and I am not going to get all snobbish about whether it is correctly spelled or punctuated, and I am sure that fluff didn't mean that either.
Of course, there's a difference between mis-spelling and typing errors. I DO try and read my posts back before I post them, but even then, I sometimes find missing or transposed letters AFTER I have posted them. That annoys me so much that I HAVE to go back and edit them out. Sometimes it can take me 2 or 3 edits to get rid of them all surprisedops: - it's well known that you can't proof read your own work.
It's worth pointing out that Fluff's point about the spell-checker only applies if you type your posts out in Word first. These days, I rarely bother to do that (this is being typed directly into SH). I suppose that making a point of using a spell-checker is good advice for those who know that spelling is a weakness, but that's up to them.
I don't like it if I think that someone can't be bothered. I don't like text speak in texts, I can't stand it in a post. But, again, that's just me. Others may not mind it, and perhaps even like it. Each to their own.
So, in summary (Good grief, I do go on), the main thing for me, is do people get their point across? I can forgive genuine mistakes as long as the meaning is clear and, as I've said, I wouldn't want people to feel intimidated into not posting.

Not so Will......there is now a spell checker on here, look for the little ABC and tick under the right hand side of the posting box. It took me quite a while to find it too! lol

Thank you for that. Actually, it was the "red wiggly line" comment that made me think of Word. I don't think the site spellchecker automatically tells you that you have got something wrong - but somebody might be about to correct me on that one too! dunno

it doesnt and if like me you suffer from dyslexia or dyspraxia reading back doesnt help,i suppose i could check every post but that would leave me no time to cam or do my farms
You shouldn't feel the need to. The written word is not an easy medium for some people. It doesn't mean they're stupid, or that their opinions are less valid than those of the more articulate.

It does Will, it highlights and underlines the offending word in red, ....it doesn't automatically correct it though!
For the record, if Firefox is your browser you can use an in-line spellchequer (innocent) which appears regardless of where you are on 'tinterweb. I expect there's one for I.E too. wink
Yeah I got firefox spell checker, rarely use it.
I dont like spelling conventions and I dont bother much.
I think it goes back to the days when ones only badge of education was an ability to read and write. I dont think its terribly important and I think a lot of really nice folk are made to feel bad about themselves because of their literacy or unliteracy.

youre not allowed to discriminate against me because of my disabilities

Smelling is so important, and I do check to see if I have smelt correctly, and used the right words....but someone planted a little virus in my computer; it changes the text at the very point of me pushing any button marked 'post' or 'submit'. When I discover who did it....
On the other hand it is the idea that matters, not the correct smelling.
On the third hand bad smelling does give a target to anyone who see their argument broken and refuted.
Travis
PS at the time just before posting this said just what I wantted it to say.

Your smelling seems fine but i'm sure i can spell a rat lol
im dyslexic so re reading what iv typed or using a spell checker doesnt help me
i sometimes use txt talk here cus i find it easier
on this site im not bothered if people are annoyed by my spelling mistakes cus its just an internet forum and chat site and if they are that shallow then they arnt worth bothering with as far as im concerned
if im writing to a solicitor or similar then il get gary to check my letter/email just to make sure iv put the message across correctly

Absolutely, and I hope that I got that point across in my original post - though not as succinctly as you.
