I use this +Sophos + spyware stuff and my PC is as clean as a whistle. MS stuff has never found a virus, neither has Sophos and last spyware scan got me a big green tick! Firewall tighter than a duck's arse
Think you're getting them elsewhere.
steph if yr stuck pm me will talk u through it on the phone
There's no spyware on here although I've read in other threads about some of the external emoticon links fetching cookies from elsewhere.
If you use Firefox as a browser instead of IE it's much safer. Microsoft is due to release a new browser soon because so many users are moving away... IE is okay in shallow water, ie the sites that well regulated but if you're going for mp3/ringtones/smut then go for Firefox or Opera... A nice free program to clean your cache is:

Did you read the Times & CNN today? Scary stuff about new code being circulated amongst virus writers, which can embed a virus into a JPG file, so that it infects your PC as soon as you view the image on a web page!
No good crying "Get Firefox" either, that's just as vulnerable to the problem. (Getting a Linux box or an Apple Mac might be safer though)
Microsoft are testing a patch which will be releaased in about a week if tests prove successful, but now that the first media-file-borne virus transmission method has been discovered, others (e.g. in MP3's) may well follow.
"Download MS antispyware, then scan/remove" microsoft anti spyware is worthless now they have bought gator. the biggest spyware maker of them all.....since that happened a ms scan doesnt see gator as a threat anymore........ switch to linux and you dont have the worry
don't use m$ stuff its generally pretty poor, spybot search and destroy is one of the best and ad-aware is pretty good. As others have said use firefox and it should prevent alot of problems and use a decent firewall (not the windows standard one) and get a decent virus checker, housecall is free (I think) or avg or avast. Lots of really good free stuff out there if you look around and check 1st

No... sweet young innocent - just got very long claws!
wink
Also remember not all spyware is bad. Adware also shows up things like doubleclick which is used for pop upsa and advertising ,, so even if you clean they will often come back
