locking thread on this basis was bullshit and you know it

Thank you for demonstrating self moderation. This is a perfect example of why the thread was locked. It turned abusive and offensive.

Other members moderation is not open for public debate. If you wish to discuss yours then do feel free to PM and I or admin will discuss it with you.

i don't want to discuss it in pm Dave i like here where everyone can see it and make their up their own mind
two people with connections with a council make abusive/personal comments with the sole purpose of getting the thread locked
and you with connections to a council oblige by locking it
how the fuck do think this looks
look at it as a public support ticket

WHY was the Pope thread not locked by Anais?
Calling the Pope a CUNT is not that offensive then?
Thankfully Steve had the common sense to do just that.
Locking the council thread as Rob has said, rubbish. Also as Rob has said there is no point going to admin as a Mods ruling is final. No redress....no arguement.
And we talk about common sense on here.
No doubt the next time I log on the steam room will have gone for a clean.
can they lock the steam room thread....
bolt
Locking threads isn't an exact science and the mod team have to make judgements, sometimes there's a lot of discussion in the mods lounge with regard to what would be for the best before any action is taken, Anais did attempt to pull the thread back on topic unfortunately that wasn't a success, hence the subsequent locking, an alternative may be to over moderate by removing every off topic post, here's one I did earlier http://www.swingingheaven.co.uk/swingers-forum/viewtopic/323504.html
Myself I don't think we should be going down that route, even if we did all we would end up with are constant debates aboiut how unfair every post removal was.

Me neither, it leaves massive holes in the debate, or do you remove every post with a reply to one you remove too even if it has other points on, or do you just edit the reply bit out and leave the rest....
wow censorship in the extreme.
Still if it leaves a nice happy (castrated springs to mind) forum whats the harm? Right? dunno
In edit: This doesn't mean I'm in any way in favour of the way things go sometimes, it just means I'm not in favour of this as a solution. I thought I better make THAT bit clear. wink
The populist authoritarianism that is the downside of political correctness means that anyone, sometimes it seems like everyone, can proclaim their grief and have it acknowledged. The victim culture, every sufferer grasping for their own Holocaust, ensures that anyone who feels offended can call for moderation, for dilution, and in the end, as is all too often the case, for censorship. And censorship, that by-product of fear - stemming as it does not from some positive agenda, but from the desire to escape our own terrors and superstitions by imposing them on others - must surely be resisted. ~Jonathon Green
I coudln't put it better myself.
Did someone say lollipops?

And isnt it a tad ironic that a thread about free speech should be more heavily censored than any I've ever witnessed on here?
There's really no point in posting anything if that's going to start being the norm.

I was just illustrating a point, ironic I agree, btw: I don't believe that this should be the norm.

Yet you did it anyway.
I dont believe it should be done at all. People are capeable of making their own minds up as to what to think. Agree or not, be offended or not. Dont shelter us please.
Half the story is always worse that the whole story. I dont like the way threads go anymore than anyone else but even if i dont agree with some of the posts it's no debate at all if they're censored.
Yes I did, it certainly helped to make the point about how things 'could' be moderated and in the case of the comments removed they had nothing to do with the debate in the thread, the original subject that prompted this action was thread locking.
In that case it was a point well made.
So to play devils advocate here for a second, in the future if any posts are deleted will something be put there to show that there was something there? Or would we just not know unless we'd read it before it vanished?
Most of the time posts are edited and a note left that that effect, usually in red.
I have in the past used :gagged: as well, but thats just me and is very rare.
Some posts may be removed, such as blatent spam, anything in really bad taste or on some occasions when requested, this could also apply to threads.

I had a post removed this morning and no note left
I don't even know what I did wrong I never insulted anyone maybe it was a bit of a hijack, but have they been banned too?
Only I havent posted on the forums for a while but they were always allowed a while back

Yes it was in there, I thought I was going mad when I saw it wasn't there then realised by others comments that some posts had been removed, as I said I never insulted anyone it was just a joke comment so cant see why it would have vanished.
Until we are no longer allowed it hijack, in which case I would apologise is not I just want to know why it was removed.

The point I was making was about just that, gratuitous removal of posts as the norm would go down like a lead balloon.
19 pages of road closures in Edinburgh for the Pope's visit. 19 PAGES!!! :censored:
No offense... but how the fuck are people supposed to get home from work? The whole of the city centre has been closed. rolleyes Not just for a couple of hours either! There was better access when the G8 thing took place.
I'm not religious. I have no beef with anyone else's religion either but get a fucking grip!
*wanders off to buy some eggs for the walk home*
Oh... and I'd have had a rant in the relevant thread but well... I can't! wink

and the people who wanted the thread locked have there way well done to ya all
and how does it look to anyone reading the ca forum (very adult and not really worth joining
"don't go in there you get abused and they get away with it and get there way toboot" !!!
fine moderation you have here Steve
the thread was locked 5 days after the comments started ffs and all carried out by people who have a vested interest in councils
it all stinks worse than a bloated dead fish as i can bring up 20 odd other threads where there has been worse and i mean a lot worse than this
rant finished
i'm afraid i held dave and his opinions in quiet high regard till this
not anymore i'm sorry to say
