In that case it was a point well made.
So to play devils advocate here for a second, in the future if any posts are deleted will something be put there to show that there was something there? Or would we just not know unless we'd read it before it vanished?

This would be helfull
I now feel like I have missed out  as I have no idea what was removed, I feel short changed
Please be assured that the stuff that was removed was inoccuous in the extreme ....it consisted of one persons attempt to bring the thread down and a couple of responses .....seriously lol
i thought i contained four tongue in cheek humorous comments and one from someone with no sense of humour
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr..... I want to know... why.. when daughter number 1's laptop wont turn on its my fault!! and what the heck am I supposed to do at 8pm!!!!
I am sure that as a teen I was so full of stress n anxt!!

in that case why can't you unlock the council thread and edit the posts dunno
simples

The point I was making was about just that, gratuitous removal of posts as the norm would go down like a lead balloon.
hummm so you used my post as a kinda of point proving mission then?
Arrr I get it now, I think lol
Not just yours darling ....you just got caught in the crossfire :giggle:
Now bugger off for another couple of years and do some accounting
Flower you called me darling :smitten:
How could I possibly go now

and the people who wanted the thread locked have there way well done to ya all
and how does it look to anyone reading the ca forum (very adult and not really worth joining
"don't go in there you get abused and they get away with it and get there way toboot" !!!
fine moderation you have here Steve
the thread was locked 5 days after the comments started ffs and all carried out by people who have a vested interest in councils
it all stinks worse than a bloated dead fish as i can bring up 20 odd other threads where there has been worse and i mean a lot worse than this
rant finished
i'm afraid i held dave and his opinions in quiet high regard till this
not anymore i'm sorry to say

Your just so wasting your time Rob. Even if they wanted to unlock it, going against a Moderator would not look good all round.
We know why it was locked and so do a lot of others, and if it had anything to do with offensive posts, then it kind of blows that out of the water with regards to the Pope thread.

Shit happens, sometimes locking is needed when things get out of hand, a little bit of common sense would help a lot from those that prefer to trade insults rather than stick to the subject in hand.

I agree common sense should used, shame really that it had to be you that locked the Pope thread where it was about as offensive as it gets.
Yet a moderator issued a only a warning before you locked it.dunno why was that? I am sure some members would be interested to know why the inconsistency.
Davey has said I can start another Council thread even though the last two were locked. It got to 24 pages and I cannot remember a thread that was not a sticky getting to that many pages.
Can I be bothered? Sorry st3v3 but not for a second.
I will let others start one up but to be honest I do not think they will be bothered either.
If you have no confidence in how I moderate (or any other member) I am more than happy for you to voice your opinion openly - but please back it up officially with a complaint regarding my lack of moderation and common sense in a proper manner to the owners of the site. I know your concerns will be taken on board and appropriate action, if needed, taken.
As for not locking - as you know, a warning was posted by myself. I had hoped that members would take the initiative and use the opportunity to edit their own posts or apologise (whatever they felt appropriate), they didn't! A different tack was tried and it didn't work, end of!
surely its against site rules to blatantly give out exact location, vehicle type and colour and a mobile number in the dogging section of the forum.
I spotted the same ad a couple of days ago and it seemed to get erased before anyone could reply and yet it appears again tonight??????
Shouldnt they get a warning?
in edit I was trying to get this in the steam room

I never said I had no confidence in your moderating, I stated clearly in the open forum that the Pope thread should have been locked. Why would I back it up officially when it is clear that the site owners have seen my complaint?
I also know that whilst they may well read my pm, no action will be taken. I have never known myself any that have. The site admin made it perfectly clear his stance on it in the forum, which started with..." shit happens ". So a bit pointless contacting admin when they have already replied....don't you think?

Yes a warning was issued in one thread and then locked in another, was that not the case? One was so offensive it was amazing, and the other one was bickering. I know which one most would think should be locked. I was baffled as to how with those comments there was only a warning issued.
If you hoped that the members involved were going to edit their offensive remarks in that thread, then you would have had a long wait.
I cannot understand what the " different tack " means dunno
There have always been three ways of doing things. To lock the thread, or to edit the thread, or to remove the thread, which of those if different to what has happened over the years?
End of indeed.

Surely this is only passing comment and only becomes a complaint when you follow one of the agreed method for making complaints on this site?
So what outcome do you expect from your unofficial complaint? What reasonable action would you like us (mods/admin) to take?

..................

Interesting. How do you know this (please, no Daily Mail links :lol2: )?

Do you feel that your complaint is so weak it has no validity, therefore see no point in pursuing it? ~ Not much I can help with when it comes to your own feeling. sad
Do you think that St3v3's unreasonable with his running of the site and won't give you a fair hearing? ~ I can assure you he's fully able to admit (eventually :lol2: ) when he's wrong, but will go out his way to make things right, you need to be persistent sometimes, but this shouldn't be a problem to anyone who's really committed to resolving an issue.
Are you privy to the thoughts and ideas of admin? ~ Perhaps you're overdoing the work.
Are we all out to get you? ~ You are working too hard. I'd recommend a trip to the GPs. ;) loon bolt :lol2:
Are you speaking from your own experiences? ~ What we believe and what is fact can sometimes differ. I suspect that if you were to pass me details of every complaint that you are aware of, that has had no further action taken, I could find at least 2 where there has been action taken by mods, ops or admin.
Given that I'm privy to more information regarding the running of this site, I suspect that my opinion will be more accurate of the two, but I will make a public apology on the board if you prove to be right. ;) Would you care to offer the same and we can start to exchange evidence?
I think I've covered most options there, but please feel free to offer up some more and I'll try my best to help.
I would think that most reasonable people would consider the following options if they were unhappy using a relatively obscure (compared to the Googles etc of cyberspace) website:
1) Work with us, following the agreed process, to try and improve the site and make it a better place for everyone to be.
2) Leave and find a site that's run more to your liking.
If I've missed an option I'll happily listen to any constructive suggestions you have.

For future reference, how does one complain about comments/thread content?
What is the official procedure one should follow please?

You can use two ways. Pm a moderator or use the profile report button - give a link to the thread, say what the problem/issue is with a quote of the post and what your actual complaint is. Don't generalise - tell us what the real underpinning issue is in simple basic terms so we don't have to guess what you mean.

What from another Moderator?
I thought the two people who had already replied being Anais and Steve, had already put their points across. That being the two people who were involved in the warning and then the locking of a thread, you was not involved in that but no I am not suprised that another moderator has stated their opinion.
Shame those same opinions are not allowed to surface throughout the whole site.

Where exactly have I said that dunno Putting words into ones mouth is not a good policy, and if I was as sensitive as YOU seem to think I am I would be bleating to the powers that be on here, that you are implying that I need a Doctors help, which I could deem to be offensive.
But then again no point in doing any of that is there, as would the powers that be really do anything about it? I doubt it very much.
On a final note...
" Do you think that St3v3's unreasonable with his running of the site and won't give you a fair hearing " ?
IF I had any problems along that route I am more than capable of contacting him myself, which if you was to ask him....I have before, in fact we have had a few bits of banter....ask him yourself.
Any chance the prevailing discussion could be extracted into its own thread and let this one be used for what it is meant for?

Sorry for responding to an open post on an open forum and expressing my opinion. It won't happen again Mr. Ken, sir. I've learned my place.

Care to match my offer and provide the evidence?

I was simply suggesting possible motives for your comments as you never seem to give any. At no point do I feel I have put words in your mouth.
I do not think you are sensitive at all, in fact quite the reverse. This is supported by your cavalier, self-publicised, 'post and be damned' attitude, which shows scant regard for those human beings that share this site with you and heaven forbid, disagree with your point of view.
As for suggesting that you visit a GP; I'm curious. In what way could that be considered offensive? Are you suggesting that there's something distasteful or shameful about having some form of mental health problem?
Before you answer I'd like to remind you that 1 in 4 people have some form of mental health problem at some point in their life, so you may be insulting and offending a large number of our members (not that I think that will concern you in any way).

I was always under the impression that the Steam room was a place for people to do just that....let off steam. I did not realise that people could then pick up on that and reply. It seems only recently where a few have nit picked at peoples comments in the Steam room. Yes it is in an open forum, but usually things piss people off, they have a moan and then move on. I think this was broached upon recently too.
The comment I have highlighted I am sure many people will be suprised by that, as a moderators reply.

I am sure it does but I would have thought that a bit of banter with Steve did not really constitute a moderators meeting on it. It was light hearted banter...nothing more than that.
I am also fully aware that anything written in a private pm gets around and then can possibly end up being spoken about on the open forum.

Good advice for all members and something that in the past I have done, am suprised you was not aware of that fact.
I think enough has been said already on this subject, and all because I did not agree with a thread being locked.....I will learn in future not to vent any anger in the steam room in the future.
I'll ask again - any chance the prevailing discussion full of really, really LONG posts could be taken into its own thread? It isn't a letting off of steam any more - it's a full blown discussion/argument with the usual reams and reams of quotes.
I'm all for the discussion taking place - and in the open is fine by me if it's ok with the posters. But it seems to have moved on from Steam and transformed into Fog.

Didn't realise they were the rules, my apologies. Had I known you would have been so precious about something so clearly not as malicious or abusive as a lot I read on here, I would have refrained from posting it.
Of course there are times when people adding a  or  are very obviously using those emotes to hide behind the term banter for what is obviously a targetted snide remark, I wouldn't stoop to the childish levels of that particular style of posting that others clearly enjoy.
I now consider myself told and educated on the etiquette of using this forum, thank you so much for your input.
