I'll ask again - any chance the prevailing discussion full of really, really LONG posts could be taken into its own thread? It isn't a letting off of steam any more - it's a full blown discussion/argument with the usual reams and reams of quotes.
I'm all for the discussion taking place - and in the open is fine by me if it's ok with the posters. But it seems to have moved on from Steam and transformed into Fog.

@ Foxylady: Sorry, but we don't have the ability to split threads any more, so we can't meet your request. sad

PMSL - I hadn't spotted that, my fault enitirely. I wasn't bothering to read the posts as I had no direct interest in the content. :giggle: That'll teach me to take more notice. Thank you Mal and Easy. xxxxx
@ Foxylady. No probs. I probably wouldn't read half of this if I didn't have to. :lol2:

I was always under the impression that the Steam room was a place for people to do just that....let off steam. I did not realise that people could then pick up on that and reply. It seems only recently where a few have nit picked at peoples comments in the Steam room. Yes it is in an open forum, but usually things piss people off, they have a moan and then move on. I think this was broached upon recently too.
The comment I have highlighted I am sure many people will be suprised by that, as a moderators reply.

I think this is a quite measured response considering this was the second time you'd attempted to admonish me for posting in, what you obviously felt, was a private conversation on a public forum. I, like Essex, will attempt to obey the forum etiquette you dictate too.
If you have any comments or complaints about my post(s) I suggest you forward them to St3v3 and I will happily discuss my conduct with him, as it's he decides what is acceptable on his forums.
As you've again ignored the golden opportunity of proving me wrong (or incompetent) by provide evidence of the things you 'know' to be true, or to even manage any constructive suggestions for improvements, I really haven't got the will to wade through yet another of your monotonously predictable replies. So for this reason and the benefit of the rest of the membership that probably have no interest in this, I will now take a step back with my credibility intact.

Odd isn't it Easy that some of the most vocal critics of site moderation tend to be those who quite often prove themselves to be utterly incapable of moderating themselves? I think the word I'm reaching for is irony? confused
I find the suggestion that the site is in some way over-moderated absolutely laughable, but I do think Admin / Mods have made a rod for their own back to some extent. In allowing the forum to run merrily along as much as possible, no doubt assuming that adult members of an adult website will at least try to behave like adults, they have made it difficult for those members who occasionally find adult behaviour a tad problematic, and consequently find themselves on the wrong side of the AUP?
I personally think we should do away with the AUP as it currently stands, and start from scratch, cos it is a bit loose and open to subjective interpretation isn't it? That probably explains to some extent why some are apparently so bemused when it's actually enforced from time to time ((( most often AFAICS in an attempt to save those members who can't moderate themselves, and insist on testing the boundaries of what constitutes acceptable behaviour from themselves? ))) Probably it would be a whole lot easier if Admin were to just write in stone a big long list of thou shalts, and thou shalt nots, and get proper Old Testament about the whole thing, just so we all know where we stand. That would be much better than the vague but slightly more adult do unto others as you'd have them do unto you thing we seemingly have at the minute, oh yes.

More seriously, I do think the whole thing needs rewriting in fact the whole forum needs updating. Is the AUP not still the one written by Mark and Fred Flintstone? We have guides written by Kitkat legendary I am sure but I joined in 2005 and I never him/her/them. The forum in general its rules and guides have been totally ignored by the new....old management. Maybe some would say it was best they left it alone? dunno

The AUP has been changed many times over the years and now is 8 simple and very easy to read rules.

When all said and done, if people showed others a little more respect, it wouldn't even be an issue
However, now I've seen Neils post, I think he should write up the new AUP :giggle:
I called virgin, went through three automated messages till I got the one that dealt with my internet/phone problem to be told to call a flipping number at 50p a minute! :kick:

do unto others as you'd have them do unto you

I tried that, and all I got for my trouble was a restraining order.
Bitch.
If one more member of the family turns to me for 'simple' help this week I shall scream
banghead :banghead:
For the record
I am not a doctor
Neither am I a vet
I am not a computer expert either but surely putting 'office' onto a laptop is not that hard!

I forgot how to tell how to see if you have a leak in a hose or joints - it connects from a bottle of propane to my torch. I can smell something (its not my feet  ) - doesn't smell like propane but its not a nice smell. Anyone got any clues? Is it washing up liquid round the joints? If it bubbles you have a leak?
I've just about ran out of propane too and the office is closed

Not a problem at all.
Anais had a problem in thinking she had a propane leak, after a little investigation, she finds its not a leak, but a loose connection, and all is now well in her propane driven world.
And I commented that it was a result.
