I saw both bands live.. the stone roses at spike island, and the mondays at gmex.
Although I prefered stone roses recorded stuff, the spike island gig was utter crap. We spent all day listening to crap supports, and then when the stone roses came on they did about an hour and left.. I was one disappointed fan.. On the other hand the mondays gig at gmex was great, loved every minute of it..
On a funnier note, I was in the hacienda watching a band called Northside sometime in the late 80's early 90's. They had a semi-famous hit called 'shall we take a trip'. Anyway, I'm stood on the balcony/upstairs bit, looking down at the stage talking to my friends about the band, I was going "yeah, they are ok, but the lead singers utter crap!". I continued my attack on the lead singer when, all of a sudden, i get tapped on the shoulder really hard. I turned into the face of a most angry and distraught middle aged woman. She introduced herself and I could of died.. I was stood next to the lead singers mum, who had proudly come to see her boys 15 minutes of fame, and had to listen to me slagging him off throughout his entire act.. ops:

Both were class but don't count them with this'rock' business - a pointless comparison. Their concerts were raves indoors and with instruments. oakenfold and whoever else dj-ing just as important. sheer genius. less about the band and more about a big trashed party, same as for charlatans, flowered up and so on. their influence was getting baggy arse floppy haired oiks like me into dancing and not taking life/bands so seriously. a big step forwards. Not sure my liver approved though.
