Ok I know its a stoopid question, before I even get told off for it, before anyone comes along and pms me to ask why I'm posting drivel, before anyone gets on their uppity high horse and says it not swinging related well it is because I'm part of a swinging group and I'm asking the rest of the swinging group a question that I need to know the answer to - alright?
How does one cook artichokes? Someone gave me some artichokes, and I have no idea how to cook them. Boiled? Roast? Fried? I'm not throwing them away, I'm short of money as it is so I intend to eat them as a cheap meal. Artichokes on toast? Would that work?
confused

wow, who'd have thunk it!
If you have globe artichokes:
bring some water to the boil (enough to completely cover said artichokes) and put them in, then simmer for about 20 minutes. They should then be tender enough for you to pull out each 'leaf' and eat the base. if you can't pull a segment off easily, simmer for another few minutes, until you can. You must NOT eat the 'choke' bit (spiny part) - pull/cut it out.
If you have Jerusalem artichokes (like knobbly potatoes) just cook them in the same way as you would cook new potatoes.

I take it all back (hence the edit) dumb ass me was thinking of asparagus.

Jules!! :therethere: I really don't think artichokes on toast will work hun.
Here's a couple of things I found though

Can you believe there's actually an "artichoke advisory board"
Hope this helps Jules. And on the 2nd link there's even a step by step picture board of how to prepare them... how helpful is that!
Ooooooooooh that was a good recipe. Now the only problem is, I don't think that what I've got is artichokes confused
The recipe talks about cutting the bottom and tops off? Mine are all squiggly, sort of like the shape of root ginger if you know what I mean, but not the same colour, a bit whiter. But the bloke def said they were artichokes
I'm all confused now

Blanche them lightly first , then put them on to simmer on a low heat . Drive to the kebab shop and on your return throw the resulting mess in the rabbits hutch and eat the kebab .

Sorry Jules, I have no idea how to cook an artichoke whether it be from Jerusalem or not. I haven't found much that you can't eat with toast though. wink
