Television,
whats happened ??
I know its never been the greatest of TV viewing time slots but jees, its on its arse these days
Back in the days of 3 channels to choose from, we were still at least treated to something close to being entertaining.
Although way way back, Sunday evening TV was a choice between "the black n white minstrel show" "the good old days" or the test card, Grannies loved it (the good old days..i dont mean the test card) lol i just remember as a 6 year old, asking why a man was dressed as a strange looking lady calling himself Danny la Rue, singing on stage in a mock victorian theatre! confused??:
Things got a little better when "Please Sir" and "Doctor in the house" arrived on our screens, but they were never going to sweep the boards at the BAFTA Television Awards.
Catweazle was great and is the stand alone Sunday programme for me, although i rather fancied juliet bravo wink the first one i mean !
Anyhow, i put my telly on tonight and could hardy believe what i was seeing :-|
A bloke throwing ping pong balls into a bucket! ballancing on a plank of wood, counting squares, stepping over broom handles 18 inches off the floor without touching them !!
what the fuck!!!!!!!!! dunno
Call that entertainment ! well apparently it is ..... WHEN YOUR INSIDE THE CUBE!!
Are we really all so numb these days that rollin a fuckin ball down a drainpipe counts as top TV entertainment, just think about what your watching for a minute, grown men and women attempting to throw a square ball over a flimsy wall and hope it lands in a washin up bowl
Thank fuck for Countryfile is all i can say
Oh for christ sake......just wheni thought it couldnt get any worse..... the XFactor just started

Try a couple of the other channels - we have Great Migrations (or similar name) fab images, Time Team was on weekly until this week, as was Downton Abbey, House on Sky1, Garrow's Law starts next week, Making Scotland's Landscape was gorgeous and fascinating and is a series, Top Gear for the petrol-heads - the list goes on. If you only have terrestrial you may be limited, but everyone (I think) can get a range of free digital channels (freesat?) so there should be more than the basic 5 for just about everyone.
OK there is a lot of crap out there - Strictly X-rated Celebrity get me out of dancing on ice with my dog or whatever it is this time, and there are some rubbish game shows (why isn't Noel Edmunds dead yet?), but to say there is nothing worth watching apart from Countyfile is a bit thin.
Personally, I would love to pay for and get only those channels I actually want to see, then I won't need to scroll through 2x as many channels of unwatchable crap while looking for something I fancy watching. The youngest person in this house is 23 - but we have to have Cbbebies - why? About 15 God channels (various gods btw, right next to each other LOL), and goodness knows how many other 'shopping' and 'celebrity this and that' channels and even more kid channels. Sheesh - what a waste of broadcasting effort. Come one Sky/Virgin etc - give us a filter.
each to their own:
I love x factor...and yipee I'm a celebrity is back.
At a week-end I do not want to tax me grey matter...I just want to kick off me socks and chill with a glass of rose wine and a few crisps !!!!

Hey, i can see the appeal of dancin n singin TV, not my "thing" but i see a certain amount of entertainment value in it, my point was how these so called skill tests have somehow become must see TV :dunno:
Lets say you saw me and dave notts trying to walk ten feet along the high street with a penny balanced on our foreheads, trying to avoid dropping it and the first to do it wins yeh...now its not exactly wholly absorbing or engrossing stuff is it? youd most likely walk past thinking "daft sods"
But some twat at moron TV has packaged exactly that and because of the way TV is sold to us nowadays its bigged up to viewers as top telly. Strip it down to the bare bones and its a pile of piss poor games you could have dreamed up as a 4 year old, the only difference being..when you were 4, it was a great game
redface I was only playing the penny game last week with the kids

Nope I'd LOVE to see that, I'd pay money to see that! :lol2:
Hang on have you just engineered this whole thread to get me to say that? You're as bad as Simon Cowell smackbottom
It's all a fix!!!!!!

Bugger, youve rumbled me confused??:
wink
All I can say is thank God for V+ thats Virgins answer to sky plus and TV on demand. We dont watch live TV anymore. We watch stuff from TV choice on demand currently thats Fringe and we hare half way through series 2. We use V+ and catch up TV for most other things so that we dont have to tolerate the ads  Must admit I did think cube looked a bit crap about as entertaining as that show where the try and fit through a moving wall, is that called the wall by any chance? It you want to watch that kind of stuff flick through to Bravo or one of the other three channels that shows Takeshi's castle thats far more entertaining smile
i find most of TV boring but not just at the weekend, in the week too !
at the weekend if we watch any TV its normally a film we have bought or something such as a crime thriller type programme recorded in the week smile
i never ever watch x factor or dancing on ice type programmes ... i cant stand them
I'm not big lover of Telly anyway, but i do watch occasionally but 9/10 it tends to be DAVE or Gold, which are all the repeats of old stuff. i have to have my fix of the Likes of Top Gear, Father Ted, Black books and mock the week.
i thinks a lot of these quiz shows are now running out of NEW ideas, and they have attempted to bring back olds shows but not worked, they tried it with Bullseye and Kryton Factor, two great shows when they were on years ago, but i couldnt watch them because they wasnt the same with out Gordon or Jim.
maybe they need to bring back Noels House Party back, or TFI Friday.
Sunday night telly? No idea. Not a clue. We were out swinging till the wee hours ::grin:
Seriously tho - much like the Tweeky's, we rarely watch "live" telly. We record whole series (or download them) and watch them back to back. No adverts either. What we want, when we want it.
*Her*
sky plus is the best gadget in the last ten years we watch what we want when we want and flick thru the adverts

I've more TV than I ever had and watch much less than I ever have too. Like Tweeky I use the V Plus to hoover up what I want to watch and then I watch it when it's convenient for me.
I was having a chat the other day though about this very subject. Remember the excitement of the run up to Xmas, Finally you could see the Bond film from the previous year, Morcambe and Wise, The 2 Ronnies, The Muppets. Ah good times indeed my friends.
Nostalgia aint what it used to be
**sighs**
yep its normally crap tv but then this sunday itv3 was a programme called aberts memorial starring david jason
just my opinion but it was brilliant (what a refreshing change for tv)

oh I missed this, I saw the reviews and wanted to watch it. I'll have to go and look it up. Thanks for reminding me smile
And they say that French TV is bad!
Sunday night viewing for me was all about the "business" type drama shows, The Brothers, Howards Way etc which really made you want to go into work the next day and kick the shit out of someone to get them working.
