Superman Star Reeve Dies Aged 52

Christopher Reeve, the actor who played Superman, has died at the age of 52.
Reeve fell into a coma on Saturday after going into cardiac arrest while at his New York home and died yesterday, his publicist Wesley Combs said.
Reeve was paralysed from the shoulders down after a riding accident in 1995. The accident turned him into a worldwide advocate for spinal cord research.
He was being treated at Northern Westchester Hospital for a pressure wound that he developed, a common complication for people living with paralysis.
In the past week the wound had become severely infected, resulting in a serious systemic infection. Reeve died of heart failure.
No offence but is it just me or does he look kind of plastic in that picture?? Kinda a bit like maybe one of ant and dec in one of their mad disguises??
No i don't think he looks plastic it must just be has been taken, not a very tactful remark now is it.
Im sorry but he even looks like he's had more plastic surgery than cher!!
R.I.P. Chistopher Reeve
Apology but he does look like hes had botox or something??!! In my opinion anyway! rolleyes
I hadn't heard about that. Cheers.
I think he does look a little plastic in the picture, and as for taking offense I can't see why people do that.
The man's dead, he's not going to have a problem with it. Why should someone who has absolutely nothing to do with him or his life take offense? Really it in no way concerns them.
The point is when when someone says " No Offence" that is exactly their intention.
The Man had been paralysed for nine years what should he have looked like after that time!!
Don't see how that generalises what he should have looked like tbh.

Yeah your right i didn't know the man but i remember being nine years old going to see superman the movie in 1978 and it being the best film i had ever seen at the time and is still one of my favourites now.I respected Chris Reeves!

Well actually linguistically they mean that no offense should be taken.
I'd also argue that the point isn't to cause offense, it's stated as such because they know they are making a controversial statement and the ramificatios of which could cause offense.
As for what he should look like I don't believe there is a standard template. rolleyes
The statement was made about what he does look like, it was a comment not a criticism.

So, on a scale of 1-10 (10 being high) how much offence have you taken???

Respected him for what? The film? In which case the directors, writers and producers deserve more respect. Good film, but in all honesty the acting was never really top drawer.
If im being honest If a picture of him had been drawn to my attention sooner than when it did (possibly before he passed away!)
I would have said the same thing, would you have been as offended then??
Just a thought? confused

I may have not been offended then but the comment would have been in poor taste in my opinion.
Well, I really can't tell my kids Superman is dead, and it wasn't Kryptonite that defeted him either. Next you'll be asking me to tell them the Nija Turtles are plastic, or that Santa is dad and he only cums once a year and that's down the chimney too!
RIP Christopher Reeves
Long live Superman!
Ah well!! What else can I say!!
still think he looks like hes had more plastic surgery than cher
I hadn't heard either, so enough of this offense lark, now lets just leave it and pay tribute to a man who has suffered for a long time.
(from someone who had to deal with similar for 27 years) God bless ya mum.

Yes but when your nine years old and you see a film like that back then it's one of the things you grow up remebering just like seeing something like star wars for the first time ever as an example.
Yeah but you do realise that superman and christopher reeve are two seperate people now right???? :P
runs and hides!! surprised
Perhaps we should respect his pure grit and determination since he had his accident?
Fruity perhaps a little in bad taste but like you say if you'd have made that comment before he'd died then it wouldnt be half as offensive. confused
OK Fair enough, I do apologise and am now going to shut up! redface surprised

But really that shouldn't have any bearing on the statement. Either saying someone in a wheelchair looks plastic is offensive or it isn't.
The fact it's a guy who used to act in movies should be irrelevant.
As also should be the fact of whether they are alive or dead, both incidental.
From what you have said it would appear that had the statement been made about an alive anonymous disabled person you wouldn't have cared at all. So what makes it offensive about one person but not another? The fact he's famous?
In my opinion it's your perception thats off and not the comment itself.

I think it's wrong to single him out as such though. There are people out there with just the same or even worse who cope with their lives. Yet they don't have a world of support, horrendous amounts of money for treatment or indeed access to the best treatment there is. For me it's those people that have to fight so much harder and deserve far more respect, yet people never think of them because they weren't in movies.
