If someone (say me) was organising a swinging cruise for early summer 2007, what should she watch out for to ensure the 7-11 guests had a good time? What are the most important things?
Is it space?
Private facilities for each cabin?
Luxurious surroundings?
TV and CD players?
Watersport facilities on board (e.g. waterski, ski jet, fishing equipment, scuba diving equipment?)
Rooms just for couples or no problem sharing room with a single as well?
Sunbathing space on deck?
Shore excursions taking in places of natural beauty and history?
Shopping expeditions?
Chef on board or can we do our own catering? If self catering, each one responsible for their own meal arrangements or appoint chef amongst us?
Staff to clean up after us or can we all pitch in?
Evening entertainment (e.g. karaoke on board or piano or DVDs or board games)?
Free bar (cost of alcohol to be included in price) or BYOB arrangements?
What about the overall cost?
What would make/spoil a cruise for you?
What's the perfect duration: 7, 10, or 14 nights?
I forgot to mention that the sailing holiday would take place in Greece.
PS: once on board, anyone misbehaving would be tied up to the main mast... LOL
I look forward to your input. Thank you.
In my experience- the best thing to have on a boat/ship is......Lots of sailors! wink
Sorry... redface
Sensible answers for the good lady on a postcard please.

What a fab idea for a holiday ! If it's going to be just swingers on board then as private as possible, hence the self catering and pitching in with the cleaning. Make sure you have plebty of options for the daytimes, ie sightseeing for those who want it, watersports ( you know what I mean rolleyes ) for the sporty types and sunbathing for the less energetic types. I'd be sure to make some house rules too though. If you don't want any adult fun and games in the public areas then state that. Make sure everyone knows they have to share the cooking and cleaning etc and you should have a great time.
The only worry would be how do you decide who will come? Do you put it to an open forum and have people you don't know turn up or keep it to people you can vouch for?
I'll be watching this with great interest ( I'd love to do another cruise biggrin )
Hope you can pull it off hunni
With regards to the participants, first I don't expect too many people would be able to afford this kind of holiday and second those who could might not have the luxury of time due to hard working schedules, family arrangements, etc. So that will leave a very small number of people interested. Out of these, I expect at least 75% to be willing in spirit but not really able to commit early enough. So there will be few people left and if these people are known to the forums and through munches and generally get on well with everybody, then there will be a good base for participants. Then it is first come-first served - those who will be able to confirm early and put up the deposit, will be the ones going.
I am now looking into the option of bareback - sorry! bareboat chartering with the hiring of a skipper. If anyone here has a sailing diploma and does not mind skippering, please make yourself known.
As for play out in the open, that should be possible in remote beaches or late at night when the crew are out having a good time in town and I would emphasise to the agent that this will be a clothes optional charter (for us, not them!) so they can pair us with unshockable crew members.
Hopefully some other people will help the development of this project with their input. Don't be shy, even if you can't come, your ideas are welcome!

I think they'd be queuing up to do the job hunni :giggle: If you make a provisional date far enough in advance then I don't think people would have a problem with work schedules etc but it might be an idea to get some kind of ballpark figure and see what people think.
Also, would you just be inviting couples or allow singles along too? Obviously a single fem would have safety issues to think of, especially if she has never met any of the others going too.
I think, taking into consideration the money and time factors, that the 7 to 11 people would need to know one another very well already. 7 to 11 is a very intimate number of people, for 7 to 14 days' togetherness. I would have thought that if the idea appealed to those 7 to 11 people, they would already have arranged something similar themselves.
I am sure that if single males or females wanted to join us, they would be perfectly safe and of course no one has to do something they don't want to do. Yes, it will be a yachtful of swingers but without pressure and no guarantee of action.
Frecklebird, it is a very good point you have raised and there may actually have been groups of people who have done it already and could give us some tips. And yes, it is a small space and it is necessary for people to get along and to have respect for each other for the cruise to be successful. But sometimes even in one's own family or close circle of friends, misunderstandings are inevitable. In which case, dissidents will be tied to the main mast - my answer for everything! lol

What sort of cost is this all likely to be?
if we were to go on a cruise of this kind, i think some of the main things would be private facilities, our own private cabin and decentish surroundings.
the pther things like water sports equiptment and stuff would be nice, but not quite as important.
obviously there would need to be entertainment of some kind (as well as the obvious!!!! lol).
it does sound a lovely idea, the problem i can see would be who went.
its lovely going to a day or night social with new people, i love to meet others and see how i get on.
however, i am not sure that many people would be comfortable though with the idea of a week or two in a confined space with people they may not like or get on with.
if tonguey and i were to go on a swinging cruise, i am sorry to say that it would only be with people we were already friends with, the risks seem to high to do it otherwise.
i still think it is a great idea though hun, but just that maybe rather than opening it up to the masses, you would be better just inviting people you know personally.
good luck with it.

Initial research brings up a cost of £200 per person per night. This does not include airfare, land transport, dinners, drinks, motorised sports, entrance fees to sites or tips. I have asked for the full info as different companies have different things included in the price. For example one company will not offer food in the price and you must pay £100 a week per person for your 3 course lunch (salad, main and fruit). Now I am sure we could do lunch with much much less if we wanted...
For 10 days the cost could easily be £3000 per person all inclusive but it would be on a really decent boat with full crew.
I will have a better estimate once I get all the info.

Tania,
£3K per person ffs, I think that counts most people out..........£6K per couple, that IMO is a LOT of money, and if I had that sort of money I would do something like buy a car or pay a lump sum off the mortage.
How ever I wish you well in your planning and hope if the trip come off that you all have a good time.

   At £3k a head... someone to pay for it!!!!!
What a great idea. You havent mentioned anything about age limits either as there are a lot of ppl who have a definate feeling about the ages that they mix with in a swinging sense.
Good luck i hope it comes of for you.
Perhaps a cheaper alternative would be a barge somewhere in the UK, Norfolk Broads or somewhere similar. Admittedly it lacks the glamour and sunshine of a proper cruise but the sentiment of the 'holidaymakers wink ' would be the same and you might get more takers. Either that or the private villa/cottage type packages would probably be more successful, if only on the basis of price.
people would have to feel it was worth it.
i know that cruises can be expensive, but on a propper cruise ship you would get more for your money.
the only extra you would get on this charter would be the "adult" part, but for £6,000 a couple you could go to hedonism and have the same if not more fun, for less money.
I said I don't know the price yet, I am guesstimating being generous with amounts thinking that it is better to overestimate than underbudget. Let me get the quotes and I'll tell you something more solid.
As for Hedonism, yes, you can go there for much less and you have the added bonus of being able to escape people you don't really fancy seeing. But it is one place, not many as one would get to see on a cruise. And the beach there is not divine as it is man made and small. Frankly if I had a few friends, I would much rather rent a villa with pool overlooking the sea in Ocho Rios and do my own thing. Jamaica is one of my dream destinations.
Anyway, talking about expensive, how much do you guys normally spend on a holiday? I always seem to go for the affordable package holidays where one week is like £500 including airfare but always end up spending as much on food and beverages and if I rent a car it is twice as much. In any case I have never spent less than £1000 on a holiday and it's only been for a week (six nights...), travelling at ungodly hours in charter airlines where the seats don' t fit me, suffering delays at airports and long bus rides till the final destination (why is it always my hotel that is the last drop off point for the bus?)
I don't mean to sound as if I am showing off here, so please forgive me if that is the impression I am giving to you. I do know the value of money and how hard it is to save up for a dream holiday or a dream - period. Getting the best quote possible is also to my advantage ;) I don' t need fancy yachts, just something comfortable that sails safely, has a working fridge for the all essential cold beers and a flushing toilet.
Give me some time and I'll have costs FYI.

If I''m with friends, give me a tent, a cool box and a portaloo and I'm happy... good luck if you get something sorted... but personally I think you're being far too ambitious

I know that cruises can be expensive, but on a propper cruise ship you would get more for your money.

Proper cruiseships have tiny no frills cabins buried at the bottom decks, some even below sea level (those without windows of course). Proper cruiseships have endless queues to get ashore for the bus tours and endless queues to get back on board. Queues to eat, queues at the bars and a daily fight for the prized deckchair by the pool. Proper cruiseships can't anchor at picturesque bays and offer you a barbecue on a remote beach nor take you to somewhere you fancy because it is not in their schedule. Chartering a yacht gives you the freedom to go anywhere the captain will agree to take you, it has a sense of adventure and unpredictability.
Come on well_busty_babe, join us next summer! smile

well hedonism was just an example, and they actually have about 6 different places all over nowdays, but anyway - thats irrelivent.
on an average hollidays, well we ( 2 adults one child) have just had a weeks all inclusive in a gorgeous place, including flights and spending money was about £2,500 and that was without scrimping on doing what we wanted and wanted to buy there, so i DO think 6k is a bit expensive. and our flights were good times too.
i am really not knocking your idea, i do think it has potential- i just want to point out the problems,
a) people not wanting to be squirelled away with strangers
b) value for money
and
c) comparrison to alternatives, ie - id people are going to save up for a great holliday, maybe they would prefer something a bit more controllable, rather than potential problems with people they dont know.
like i said, i wish you luck - but it is better to be prepared now rather than later.

About £1,800 for 4 adults and 3 kids having two weeks in a large house in France.
For 6 grand I'd want to change my car, buy the kids school uniforms, decorate the bedroom, pay for Christmas for the next 2 years.................
For 6K I don't want to be stuck on a boat with people I think I would get on with for a week but might not when we'd be under each others feet. I'd want my own private bit of beach where I can get naked with him in doors rolleyes

Ageism is not allowed on my boat! Anyone found guilty of discrimination will of course be... tied up to the main mast. biggrin

About £120 in site fee's for the caravan....
With 2 kids and a hobby that takes us all around the country we couldn't afford a holiday abroad, nor could we find the time....
Sorry Tania but £6k per couple is way out of most people's budget
I'll bring my Technics Mike
Please stick to the subject of the thread. Thank you.
i'm sorry, but someone's gonna have to say it and it may as well be me. Tania you've been to 1 social (that you incorrectly termed a Munch) and you're suddenly wanting to organise a swingers cruise consisting of 7-11 people who have never met (cos I really dont see how any of the different groups of friends here all have members who can afford 3 grand per person) ... you dont see safety as a problem...and suddenly you're in a position to organise something of this magnitude, and total cost (of approx 33 thousand pounds) .
jesus christ, and here's little 'ol me having kittens over the security of mostly well-known members at my first attempt crappity little munch

Whilst I agree with some of the points that have been raised contra the cruise idea, I have to say some people have been overly harsh in the way they've said it.
I think it's an imaginative and ambitious idea - would certainly be different - but not really practical.
It seems safe to say that for most people the idea of spending a ball-park £3K on a SH get-together and for that length of time even, is going to be out of the question. You would definitely want to be pretty certain that you know and get on with your ship mates very well and I think for £3K, you'd damn well want to know that there's going to be some 'action' .
I think it'd be better to do something a bit less ambitious to start with ... most get-togethers/munches seem to be single day or weekend events at their longest.
cool

.

Blimey ! I know it'd be a custom holiday centred around what the paying customer wants instead of the ship's own itinery but hell's teeth that's steep! I only paid £2000 for a 14 night Caribbean cruise and had a catamaran trip around St Kitts complete with bbq and snorkeling. I think you'd be hard pressed to get anyone who could afford that, especially couples though the initial idea is an excellent one.
What about a narrowboat up the Norfolk Broads instead? :giggle:
