I used to swing with my ex wife since the year dot
and in those days the only way to get to meet someone was to pay a forwarding fee per letter of
the more letters yes letters you sent the cheaper it became
You would thumb through a contact mag select the pics you liked then wrote off ??? then waited and waited and waited
It makes our cyber space contact so quick what with e mail mobile phone etc etc and of course a gr8 site like swinging heaven
the good old days NO WAY.....not when it comes to swinging .

Spot on that man. smile
Ladies wore a blindfold (table napkin) and picked the keys out of the bowl.
No tagged pics to look at them days
I started that way but it was usually a select few who stayed on after our frequent bottle parties.
Don't mention Party4 and Party7 beer cans. biggrin
When MrM started swinging with his ex he did it through Loot, which was at the time, a free ads paper in London, the back pages were full of those days you sent a letter with polaroids to a PO box number and waited for a responce, he only got 3 replys in as many months....lol
The internet makes it so much easier.....

Yes that was the only instant camera you could buy you took the pic then stuck in between 2 metal plates then put it under your arm to speed the developing process up

I remember the ad section in Loot too when I lived in London, though by the time I used it there was a voicemail system, so I would phone a number, key in a personal code, and listen to the replies to my "single male seeking couples" ad. Then meets were arranged by phone - usually no chance to exchange photos beforehand, which in a way made it more exciting and mysterious - I had some great times.

I remember them too. I felt rather lost when they shut them down.

So did I, then someone sent me a link to the SH chatroom smile
woads n woads n woads n woads in wots of different ways
I agree with Mike North, there is something deliciously nerve-wracking about meeting through Loot when you only have a vague notion of the person's/persons' appearance. Also there is the thrill of listening to the intonation of a person's recorded voice, and making inferences about them from what they say and how they say it. Don't misunderstand me, the internet is fine and all that, but there's almost too much visual information available now prior to meeting up, and perhaps we've lost a lot of that intoxicating air of mystery and suspense that we used to have when meeting a stranger through a voicemail greeting. The voice is such a powerful sexual tool. It all seems much more formulaic now rolleyes
I remember contact mags, first got my hands on one when I was 17. I mainly looked for older single ladies with not much success the waiting was a real pain in the arse. The excitement as the postie delivered the mail and the dissapointment when there was no reply. When a reply did arrive the responses would more than likely be a no thanks, occasionaly it would be a "you can meet me it will be £££" and very rarlely a postive result.
It could get expensive with buying the mag, forwarding fees and stamps both for the letters to be forwarded and the replies in the stamped addressed envelope you often had to put in with your letter to the advertiser.
How things have changed, used to take weeks to be ignored, now it takes no time at all

your reply tricky brought back loads of memories of those " contact mags" impolite to mention them by name on here
but a few are still going today , but why would you want to buy them when you can get instant contact on here ?? wink
the anticipation of the postie arriving yes I remember that
and quite a few used box no's as they didnt want addresses given out ......

It's a bugger having to buy stamps now that swingers don't send us stamps and envelopes for free. :lol2:

computers were quite young then so you had to write to each advertiser
Put them all in a large plain large envelope with a stamped addressed envelope in side ( to get your polaroids back if you were lucky )
and most of the contacts pics were black and white , it took around 2 weeks from writing to await a reply and has been said you then got a polite no thank you
how we take a site like this for granted ......

You definitely went to very different teenage parties than me then... if there was a stripping game going on then it was equal opps stripping - everyone got naked!

Even if you found a few of those old stamps, 'fraid the penny black is not valid anymore! lol
omg forgot about the ole contact mag days seems a lifetime ago now
sadly we never recieved one that appealed so never actually managed to start swinging till we got hooked up with the internet but ya right it was good getting the letters through
there was in those days a lot of 0898 tell no's around on certain contact mag sites redface
these ranged from per min up to per min and coupled with massive drawn out conversations and music made a call on average around
It was only right at the end of " the intro" did you get to hear so called voices ???????
These could have been anyone in the office of the " contact mag" recording an add and i am convinced they did as what have they got to lose .....nothing ?
But a lot of £££££££££ to gain but quite a few " swappers " in those days got wised up and just stuck with the people you have met or reccomended.........
Todays swinger is a bit more savvy and wouldnt fall for the tell call con ?
But ???? watch out for the txt ads that are around today these can range from upward per txt confused
I will stick with good old swinging heaven methinks wink
