I dont know if Im after some sympathy or just some reasurance but has anyone had any 'manipulation' done to them?
I have been off work for two weeks with what was diagnosed as a slipped disc, I have lost feeling in my left leg and Im in horrendous pain. Im as dozzy as anything with all the painkillers and keep being sick with the anti inflamatories. Anyway, some bright spark (my so called mate) suggested I try one of these so called therapists who come along and massage your back, manipulate all the bits and hopefully put them back together where they should be!
Well yesterday, said bloke (who is qualified and works for one of the larger North West Rugby Clubs) came along to my home, set up his table and gave me a fantastic massage, then proceeded to prode and poke around on my back, he stretched my legs into the weirdest positions  gave me a load of stretching exercises to do and then another massage to relax the mussels. He did say I may feel a little worse today!
All well and good, but today I can hardly flaming move, the back is absolutely killing me, the pain is now in both legs and I cant even sit down. stand or walk without crying out!
Has anyone else had this done to them and if so please, someone tell me this is normal, does it ease up?
If you cant give the reasurance, anyone fancy coming giving me just the massage bit wink
awwww hunni kiss sorry to hear it didn't help you. I'm all for massage therapy but not sure why this shouldn't have worked by now. Have you contacted him and told him how you feel today?
On my way for the massage bit
Havent phoned him today but he is coming for session number 2 on Wednesday.
God I must be mad, paying to be put through more flaming pain
really feel 4 you!!!
maybe he overdid it...being used to manipulating big tough rugby players...
how about a nice hot bath ?? or even better a jacussi?
Oh I know how you feel. I've had reacuring problems for a few years.
Don't panic - yes you'll feel like a trampled carpet today but try to keep as mobile as you can (I know easiers said than done) but it should improve.
Hot and cold compresses work. Hot water bottle for ten minutes then frozen peas wrapped in a towel for the same. Repeat it a few times.
Lay off the alcahol as it dehidrates you, and tea and coffee too. Try echinacea tea.
Hope it feels better soon!

These manipulation jobs are either great or useless, depends what is wrong with you.
A friends from work suffered with his back for years, tried everything, doctors, physio, you name it. Turned out in the end to be a growth on his spine only spotted by a scanner. Had to be surgically removed.
Other people who have just pulled a muscel or whatever have had good results from manipulation.

That sort of manipulation will hurt the day after NWC :therethere: It will ease but not until you have had obscene amounts of alcohol rotflmao
Seriously though, it will ease but what you are experiencing is normal hun kiss

I sympathise - I've had that done to my lumbar discs by a therapist at hospital and I have to tell you I was unable to walk for the next five days confused lol
I also had it done to my upper back two weeks ago after I partially slipped a higher disc and neither time did it work . . . just makes you all stiff and miserable
Take some nurofen and rest. It's all you can do, but if I were you, I'd cancel any further attempts to have manipulation done because the hospital told me if discs are not manipulated within the first 48 hours of slipping, they will simply bed themselves down and it's too late to move them after that, apart from having surgery.
Hope you feel better soon and remember no awkward positions in the back of your car until you're back to normal or you could be laid up for weeks wink

If you're still experiencing pain in a few days, i'd recommend a good chyropractor or accupuncturist, my dad has a degenerating back complaint and has had good results from both to relieve bouts of chronic pain
I've not had that treatment but I did put my back out about 10 years back playing table tennis of all things, couldn't walk for 2 days, bloody painful hope you make a full recovery and the pain eases soon, in the meantime here's a :therethere:
as an ex pro dancer, i'd say that the post treatment pain that ur feeling is normal (although ur practisioner should have warned u about it)
most back promblems stem from a problem with ur core muscles, ie stomach, therefore once u've resolved ur problem it would me a good idea to build these up, have a chat to some one at ur gym or try and enrole in pilates classes.
hope u get sorted out soon
xx
hope you recover soon nwc kiss

and has nigh on closed the points gap in our respective Mensa tests meaty.....right bugger, not to mention that I can't do many jobs round the house now because I havn't got any where to put my pencil
sad sorry to hear you're no better NWC. I have had physio for my back before when I had a slipped disc, and more recently had my knee manhandled rolleyes - hurt like a b*st*rd at first but it does get better.

I have had back troubles, I really don't know why, but sometime it just goes, first an ache then a sort of bruising , then I cannot stand up ! Anyway After one such attack, my (ex) wife was attending a open day for alternative stuff . Although I was not too happy about driving her there, I was able to get a foot massage. I kid you not, I left that place not needing a stick to walk nor even feeling any pain. There is somthing to this manipulation although exactly how rubbing my foot affected my back I don't understand.
Well for my pennies worth its true you will feel worse before you get better with manipulation, you say you feel bad with anything other than asprin but a quick chat with your doc will sort that out as you need a muscle relaxant from the sounds of things. If these make you feel crap then a good anti sickness tab along with it should have you feeling perky soon enough..
The reasons we know? Well Julie has suffered bad backs for the last 20 years, 2 discectomy's and months having treatment has left us a little clued up on things with regard to back pain and its treatments. All good now thankfully but all you said your going through she has done and tried and yes does work to a degree...
Good luck, it hurts like hell we know xxxx
And not even a hint of sarcasm!!
