Sage products are FANTASTIC. I've seen line 50 and payroll, and both are excelent. to back them up, you just save the files to disk, restore is just as easy. No idea how they are to use as I'm just the IT Manager so as long as I get paid I'm happy with them biggrin
I use Quickbooks, in comparison to sage its a doddle, anyway more by pm
Just don't fall into the trap of thinking Sage's own backup routine backs up *everything*
If you have custom templates, it doesn't.
Damn, how geeky was that for a first post!
My dad uses' TAS books so i'll give him a shout and see what he knows... though personally I use Quicken, its easy to use, feature rich and now free! smile
Sage gives you a tickbox list of what you want to back up, templates is one of the options, most people admittedly only back up the data file.
A product called Cookedbooks comes with many recommendations including Ken Dodd.
lol

Welcome to you wave biggrin
All these software packages are off-the-shelf. The best one for your requirements depends on your business and its accounting needs. Some are better for manufacturing companies, others for service companies etc. A bespoke system may be required for unusual trades. XL spreadsheets are great for medium to small businesses. You can have P@L and B/S pages at the front which are linked to all the various ledgers. Analysis of the ledgers will be sub-sheets aswell. It all double entry but you also understand the accounts better.
I brought TAS because for an off the shelf PC package it was the best "programable" package on the market, however as I am no longer SE'd I no longer use it... I used to write accounting, BOM, stock, freight logistic, and back end bank software on AS/400's many years aog, not bad for a dislexic that still doesnt know his times tables lol
If the problem is a specific error type message, PM me and I'll have at a guess what is going wrong even if I cant fix it I may be able to come up with some ideas as that was one of my forte's in IT.

It gives you the option to back up templates, but it didn't back up the custom ones on the version I reinstalled five weeks ago for a client (and it didn't on the new install either)Fortunately, their tape drive had backed up everything so that was alright.
Please test it with a restore onto a clean install, it might save you a lot of grief later on.
Maybe it's been fixed in a service pack or later version though, I just pass it on as a cautionary tale.
