Its Friday night. The weekends here. Time to kick back, relax, unwind & PAAARTY!!!
Not the best time to ask for techie help I know. But theres a problem with my computer thats been driving me nuts for a while now. So I was wondering if any of the good people on S H might be able to help....
Every time I try to log in to MSN messenger it says "There was a problem connecting you. Click Troubleshoot for help..." so I click Troubleshooter and it says...
"Unable to troubleshoot your connection. Please try again later."
Could it be anything to do with me using Mozilla??? Does it only work with Internet Explorer???
PLEEESE HELP

A quick Google shows it might be a trojan. Have you got an up to date virus checker running?
it wouldnt be firefox causing the problem
what version of messenger do you have?
try getting 6.3 or the beta 7
have found this and it seemed to work for a few people
Click on START, then RUN, then copy and paste this command:
regsvr32
(this is one command. its all in one)
you will get a few pop ups just click ok
Just tried the above from ctrlscotty but its still doing the same thing
Go to and log into directly there... if that works you can at least get to your email... but to be honest Messanger has been playing up a bit over the last few days
hey how you doin
I,m not sure how to fix it but if you go to google and search WEB MESSENGER you can use the internet directly it doesnt go through yours...
then you can use it as normal...
although you probably wanna get it fixed... try a techie forum like dell
seano
Have you tried un-installing messanger then downloading it and re-installing it...Doesn't take long.
if you go to add or remove programs the click on messenger then click on"click here for support" then repair it re-installs it for you
I had this problem and despite uninstalling and reintalling I still got the blank page yet when I logged onto another computer, I was able access it fine. Did a check and discovered a couple of viruses. As a previous reply suggests, its more than likely a virus/trojan. You can try another pc if you can and if you are able to log in then you know its not the version.
You can download the beta version but you may still end up with same problem until you remove the virus. Best to check if you have virus, and if so, remove them.
MSN did have a number of problems but these were resolved! Hope this helps.
Depending on if you have a firewall and which one it is, it may be blocking either the program or the ports required for messenger.
In Zonealarm (free version) go into "program control" and make sure that "MSN messenger" has "access trusted" and "Access internet" ticked.
If you, or msn, upgraded msn messenger then most PC based firewalls see it as a program change and pop up the "allow" and it can be easy to say "n"o especially if it pops up when you are typing in another program or you just click no as you are not expecting it.
If you have a more complex firewall or its built into a router... then its down to port numbers and I cant help but I believe it says in the "help"
