I've had to escape to Eagers place for the weekend to get my fix of the site.
Ok, I have more reasons for being here than that, but don't any of ya buggers go telling him that!!!!! lol
I got a few, well ok 27 trojans and viruses on my machine at the beginning of the week. Despite my best efforts with AVG, Ad-aware, Spybot, SpySubtract, Microsoft Antispyware and Prevx I still can't use the internet.
It connects (Pipex / Broadband) and I can load one page, as soon as i try to move on it stays connected but throws up page cannot be found.
IM / MSN won't load at all.
Helllllllllllp please, I'm gonna cry if I have to spend another week without my fix :upset:
If all else fails.... Format... reload software.... be more carefull.
If you are using Win XP, click on the start menu.... in the run box type msconfig. push enter....go to the startup tab and look to see if there is any crap starting with windows that you can disable... might help

Hi,
I forgot to mention OS. Yes it's XP.
Nothing in the startup that looks too out of place.
Want to avoid a format if at all possible but rapidly coming to the conclusion that I may have to.
Incidentally, If I plug the laptop in at work and sit in the network - I can browse the Internet ok.
Have you tried doing a System restore to a date before this started.
(Does "Anything" include peeling grapes?

Awwwwwwwwww......
Now how am I gonna peel them if i can't touch them?? dunno
OK, so ixnay on the system restore then, lol
If you go to this page..(if you can)..

and look on the left hand side menu, there i8s a very good sweep for trojans.
Forget the grapes, what about sucking all the salt of crisps?
I like crisps but salt doesn't like parrots, lol
Hi,
I,m afraid you,re going to have to reformat your drive. I had same sort of problems and for weeks i tried in vein to get rid of the trojans/viruses and everytime i thought i cracked it they just kept coming back I think formatting your drive is the only answer.
Make sure you set up a firewall and anti software before you re-connect back on the internet

Oh, you can touch them, it's just that I can't let them out of my sight in case one went missing.
Parrots are very protective about their grapes, biggrin

Its not worth trying to fix. Wipe the drive, reinstall and get Norton or McAfee to protect in future.
Anything is possible

smackbottom :smackbottom:

I was using Zonealarm and AVG to protect - Dunno how they got thru dunno
They got through with the simple use of the internet.
Older versions of AVG don't protect against web-site viruses..... as soon as you visit some sites, you're infected.
The antivirus software writers can only protect after the event and then distribute asap. There will always be ones which get through until the fix is found.
Can't help you with techy stuff but you're very welcome to come and peel off me undies with your teeth wink

If you've got trojans then they've probably opened a back door and are loading the suckers in as fast as you can delete them.
Sorry, but I agree with the others that say backup (carefully), format and re-install. sad :(
Plenty of coffee and chocolate at hand while you're doing it as well.
If you're using Internet Explorer, a reformat may be a good time to switch to Firefox or something else like that.
Ducks techy issues for now, friend just finished with wifes PC and 80 + exploits n stuff on it... I work in corporate world, we nuke the PC as it often faster. Took my home PC expert friend 4 hours to get it cleaned off with a mix of tools you mentioned, and some google searching / manual deleting.
Not for the faint hearted, on the other side I can rebuild a PC in a couple of hours...
All depends on your skillset, and what you have on the PC in terms of software, and also how much you need to backup to CD (if you have that facility) first.

I'm using AVG v7, It finds stuff and either can't heal or seems to regenerate when it reboots - blummin PC!

Sssssssssssh! - Don't tell anyone.......I've got a Software Engineering degree, and still can't fluckin fix it (I'm blonde tho ;))
Sooooooooooo don't want to wipe it, but it's looking more and more likely!
Some of these new trojans are right little buggers to remove, there will be a DLL or somthing hiding away in back end of system32 or somewhere similar putting it back on every reboot.
All trojan writers should be forced to watch nothing but party political broadcasts for 6 months as penance...

before you re-format...try starting in safe mode (press F8 before windows boots) then run your anti-virus....just that the infected progs may be running and your AVG wont detect em..
hope this helps.. wink
must warn you though....youll think youve bust your pc at first site in safe mode

had one little mite that wouldn't even remove in safe mode cause it was being used in the memory...
Just luv that regedit command!!!! rolleyes
Make sure System Restore is switched OFF prior to starting in safe mode.
It may take a couple of runs in safe mode using Spybot and AVG but that should sort it.
Make sure Spybot and AVG are up to date prior to running them.
Once cleaned and back in "normal" mode switch System Restore back on (in CONTROL PANEL >SYSTEM)

Point to a IP address conflict or a firewall problem.
Are you running a firewall ??
How are connecting to the Internet at home (USB modem, Router, wet bit of string)??
How do you connect at work - I would guess via a network cable to your works network ??
