you know when your mouse stops working . . . .
and you have to spend an hour or two using the keyboard to do mousey stuff . . . .
and you finally decide to reinstall windows and see if it's a driver problem . . . .
well alway remember to check if the bottom of your mouse has fallen out. maybe it's down the back of the chest of drawers! dunno

I would suggest before you do anything else, ask yourself 'When did I last clean my mouse'
If the answer is never or not for 6 months, I would suggest your problem lies there.
To clean a mouse turn it over, around the rolling ball there is a circular hatch. turn it 1/4 turn until it comes loose. Clean the ball in rubbing alcohol and then the two long rollers and the narrow roller with a Qtip which is also moistened in rubbing alcohol, make sure all the fluff is removed and reassemble.
Don't be tempted to use Gin instrad of rubbing alcohol, it makes everything sticky as it dries, and will put you mouse out of operation permanently.
A tip for the ladies, A mouse has only one ball, don't spend half the night looking for the other one. lol. rolleyes

Seriously though Neil, I had problems with my mouse, think it was a sticky ball
I now have an corded optical one bought from Asda & have had no more trouble, quite inexpensive too wink
Mark cool
nooooooo you misunderstand me!
the mouse is in A1 condition . . . it's just that the plastic thingie underneath that you unscrew unscrewed, and fell off, and the ball fell out, and i didn't notice, so i spent 2 hours slamming me mouse on hard surfaces and swearing going "work you b*sta*rd* there's nothing wrong with you i checked! :lol2:
i used to work in tech support you know! rotflmao

still not found the ball. think the cats had it away! no doubt find it at the end of the garden next summer when i cut the grass! ;)

Do you want to swap? I've got an optical mousse and its shit. Think it must need glasses - falls off the page all the time and leaps about like a looney sometimes.
Edited to say I have realised the reason I'm having trouble is that I have a mousse instead of a mouse redface

What you want is one of these, Neil:

The Logitech MX1000 laser mouse. Quite possibly the most advanced mouse in the world.
Mine should be arriving today, so I'll let you know what it's like when I've had a play around with it...

If you are using your optical mouse on a pattered surface like one of these "pretty" mouse mats it confuses the optical bit and causes your mouse pointer to do strange things similar to what you described. Try it on just a plain mouse mat or a white piece of paper ans see if that helps.
ROFL ... oops I mean :therethere:
You daft bugger!!!!! blame the sleep deprivation .... I have been all day ;)

PS for me a cordless optical mouse is a pain in the arse UNLESS it comes with a recharging docking unit, because before that I used to have to change the damn batteries all the time - optical cordless aren't exactly light on battery usage!
Love yourself and get one of those MX1000s smile

Well, the MX1000 only requires 10 minutes charging for a whole day's use, has a docking station and uses a Li-ion battery and even has an LED battery life indicator... biggrin
