Technoshite post . . . . anyone for Opera?

nooooooo not opera with bbw's and hairy men singing italian . . . .
i mean Opera! the browser?
i had a little accident involving IE and a stupid net accelerator doing some techie stuff with proxies ((( yeah i know! neil and techie! ok! rolleyes

))) so me IE won't connect now! sad

but i downloaded Opera and it's fab! biggrin

ace it is! keep my cafe index on one tab, open 10 windows in background on other tabs, then just rip my way through 'em posting shite on every thread i can find! got me SH forums as buttons on me toolbar so no need to rummage through me favs anymore. got a proper download manager on it. and it's fast! really fast! finally sussed what you lot are on about on them cache's. cached page . . bingo there it is! no need for all the 5000 gifs to download every time i open a bloody page! even got an IRC client in it for the chatroom ((( untested. not that brave yet! stick to mIRC i reckon for now! ))) soooooooo, mr gates can shove his poxy IE where the sun don't shine!
but . . . . you knew there was a but coming right?
when i post and wanna do color / size and all that malarkey, when i highlight me text the tags go to the end of me post? so i have to tag by hand. which is slowing me right down ((( shut up at the back! thank god indeed! pah! ))) and so i'm gonna be stuck with me 3sum with The Great Black Dalek and steveg without the help of you good people so i can post more!
what's it all about then? any clues?

You could try Firefoxinstead as it handles tags just fine smile

It's also better supported in the geek community and it doesn't have any ads.
My favourite element is FoxyTunes - tiny music player controls at the corner of the window that work with any of the popular players biggrin

It is lighter on features than Opera, no IRC client, but it works very well.

Opera is the best browser ever. I've been using it for over a year now almost exclusively. Tabbed windows, fab. As for your problem, yeah, I get that too, but I live with it because it's such a small thing and still a billion times better than that piece'o'crap IE.
(I really learned to hate IE when I started doing bits of web development)

yeah jonjon tried firefox, but on my pc it just seems slow and cumbersome. didn't play with it that long tho.
like zootle says, guess i'll learn to live with tagging by hand again! only just recently sussed i could actually hi-lite to tag anyways! :doh: told you i was techie eh? rolleyes

Would be inclined to agree with Mark and JonJon on this one.. not had any problems with firefox!!

I suspect the tag placement issue is down to IE-specific Java coding, I get the same thing in Mozilla for MacOS 9. All still Bill's fault!

Yep, firefox here too. Tried a lot of browsers (including opera) and firefox pisses over everything else.
If you still use IE, you're a loony. With spyware.
If you use Opera, you're either getting adverts, or you've paid for it, which is silly when firefox is better.
I'd rather people used opera than IE, but the only sensible option, IMO, is firefox. Install a few extensions, customise it the way you like, and you'll do things in half the time you would with any other browser.

i tired firefox, i really did but the chip in me head is even worse than the one in me pc, and it was complicated and slow and i didn't understand it ok! i can't help it if i'm as technically literate as yer average A level student can i? and i did assembly language and eveything!

I'm bumping this as it has just been a very useful thread for me.... We have just experienced the same problem as Neil had and I have just downloaded Firefox....
Brilliant.... :thumbup: And it's much faster too...

OK... a related question...
I use the "full fat" version of Mozilla (v1.6 to be precise) and I would have thought, if anything, it should have been slower than the supposedely "streamlined" Firefox version.
But I've never had any complaints with it. It's as fast a weasel on speed and rollerskates.
Why is Firefox slower? Is it slow doing everything, or just certain things? (What?)

sarge, best things it does . . .
have all your open pages as tabs in a single browser window, open pages in background tabs so you can just hit 6 dozen threads in a row on an index, and then tab to em when theyve loaded, have your favourites as buttons on your toolbar. it does tonnes more than IE, but i still reckon opera wins on mine after trying it again this week. miles better than IE though either of 'em

thanxs for the tip to download firefox, just done it and will test drive it for a while but so far so good.

OK, I confess, there is a slight increase in the rotflmao
