Ok so I admit I know nothing at all about pc's, so hope someone can advise redface lol
We had a power failure this morning and since it came back on, I can access the net in general but can't get to load any pages which require me logging in to an account. Ebay is one, the National Archives, and a couple of others too.
Is it just a coincidence that these are all off line at the same time, or has my pc somehow changed it's settings? dunno
Ta ever so :P
T-J
I'm not a techy person, but you could check to see if your firewall settings have changed. I had the same problem a while ago and my Zone alarm Settings had reset themselves to a higher security level.
Are you using XP RH? if so, try doing a system restore to a point just b4 the powerout

I'm not a techy, but whenever my computer goes stupid, I turn it right off, let it rest a couple of minutes, and restart it again. It normally cures the problems with internet access. I have to reset my McCafee virus program.
I also have the system plugged into a surge protector.
If this doesn't help, I do the big erase and reboot, and always have all important things kept backed up on disc, or written down somewhere.
Good luck.
It's possibly your cookies that are corrupted (NO, not the same as the disintegrating dunked digestive that's just dropped into your tea!).
Try (assuming Internet Explorer) Tools, Internet options, Delete cookies (half way down the page). This should get rid of any cookies that assume you are already logged in etc. Then try again.
If not dunno dunno

That was pretty much my first thought, although, probably the index rather than the cookies. Solution's the same, delete cookies.
Another thing is that you could try 'Clear SSL state' under the same dialogue box, but under the content tab.
HTH, get back to us.
Chris
Thanks for all your help guys and gals. I tried deleting cookies etc and it still didn't work sad
It appears that my Norton virus checker had expired and was blocking my access to certain sites. Sooo I've deleted that programme and all seems to be working fine now smile
Can anyone recommend a free virus checker programme at all? I hate Norton with a vengence. It keeps cutting in when I'm using my machine and it drives me nuts, plus the fact that it could block my access unless I pay for a renewal has seriously pissed me off evil
If I could find the Room 101 thread I'd chuck Norton in there evil lol
Thanks again

AVG is good TJ!!!
!
Worth trying AVG free, its the one i use RH, and i've found it to be better than norton. And its free off the grisoft website. smile
Edit: alexandra, thats the second post you've beaten me to today (in the last 10 mins actually). Nice av btw. lol
Without a doubt AVG - the best free anti-virus around.
Hang on I'll just check the site address.............

To the left is a products link, click on that and then the AVG free edition. Follow the instructions and you're done.
Has always worked great for me and updates automatically every time I switch on in the morning (broadband) so no worries about being up-to-date.

Agreed.
It really is irritating when these programs keep popping up about expiry. AVG is ace.
biggrin Goodness you lot were quick!
Thanks for that. I'm off to work shortly, but I'll pop along and download it later today.
Cheers!
