OK. Just letting off steam here. Since when was it decided that if someone texts you, that you must reply pronto or at least text to say that you can't reply just yet??? Some bloke who have been texting me just recently just gave me a whole load of balls because I failed to reply to his text immediately last night. When told that you know, some people do go on call and work odd hours (rather than 9 to 5)and work dictates that you can not see to you text messages, I get a sarcy comment some 8 hours later that well he works 65 hrs a week and counting and doesn't get time to even bellydance (that was a dig at me cos I bellydance as a hobby sometimes).. Gee, i am just speechless.
Some people have no patience, or are under the impression that texting is the same as a phone call with instant replies.
Might I suggest the next time he gets impatient that you text him telling him to pick up the phone and call, unless you plan to do it.
more commonly known as "text-pests"
ignore him
acetates
I hate text messaging and rarely send them or reply to them. They're only really useful if you can't get into a full conversation at that particular time.
Often if I get a text I'll call the person who sends it as soon as I can.

here here (hear hear?) totally agree. Cannot get into this texting thing at all! Takes me 20 minutes to hunt out a response, and while I'm trying I get two more texts from the person demanding why I haven't responded yet.
in fact...I hate mobiles altogether. THAT'S IT! I'm off to chuck mine into the canal...
Saying that though, nothing is worse than people who type in text speak when they've got a proper keyboard in front of them
Wots dat all about? They must fink its cleva or sumfink :P
I just think the whole text (and mobile phone) thing is rather rude, if I want to reply to a text i will in my own time. If i want to answer my phone i will in my own time. I hate the way people expect you to answer it immidiately as if to say ' hey i dont give a toss what youre doing at the moment, i want to talk/text with you and you will bloody well do it when i want you too!!'
needless to say in the last thre months (thats how long i hav had a mobile) i have only needed to charge it up 3 times i think, and what more i have spent a total of 15mins 50 secs calling people. I dont see the appeal really.

The nerve of some people Maia  - I hope you got your point across eventually that YOU and only you decide how you spend your own time...it's the same for all of us....

I completely agree with you! There is absolutrely no sanctuary left. I've even once had the displeasure of someone answering their phone when they were on the toilet rolleyes
Mind you, text messaging is very good as a shopping list! Rather than have someone blab it to you over the phone, they ca text it to you, that and directions.
BTW, hello MikeNorth smile Cooled down now?
read this post at pm but couldn`t be arsed replying to it until now , nowt wrong with that i reckon biggrin wink

Let's return to the old days, when mobiles were not around. Life was so much easier then.
I also hate texts, and it takes me all day to compose a reply. Even more annoying is predictive text. I HATE IT!

I spent until Sunday (so about 9 weeks) trying to turn off the thing (i now know to be called predictive text) which has been driving me nuts. All I wanted to text for 9 weeks was, are you out tonight?
It's a bloody nightmare orpheous1, I had to take the phone back to the shop to get it turned off, now all new phones come with it, and the providers think they are doing you a favour by upgrading your phone.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I totally agree with the comments on here, seems to me everyone wants to txt people and if you dont reply with 2 mins u get the "u not tlkin 2 me then" text back. Last message I got like that I replied back "Sorry hun but would u really wanna talk to me while im takin a dump?"
Look out theres a grumpy opinionated noob about
lol
a text is a convienance tool ,when sometimes you cant talk
therefore it follows you may not always be able to text back str8 away
tell your man to show some patiance
i'd block his number on your phone then when he texts it will get sent straight back to him. How frustrating will that be, not even being able to send you a message never mind receive a reply banghead What a nutter :silly:
 xxx
Texting can be handy
but i hate text language
stop being lazy and text the full word
one student actually wrote an english exam paper in text language  banghead
sad really
Ive been tied to a cellphone for the last 15odd yrs, I have to admit ill be lost without it now, but I have to agree with Judy its the height of bad manners to text someone while ur having a conversation.
Why not just sneak of to the loo if ur that desperate for a bit of txt action biggrin
My problem with mobiles is that you can never hide and can always be contacted. Mobiles mean that at work people can phone with problems rather than trying to work it out for themselves.

but does anyone know which phones have the largest memory for storing texts? The one I have fills up every day and I'm always having to delete ones I wanted to keep.

You must get some pretty cool texts if you feel that you ought to keep them. All I get is 'can you pick up some goat's butter please?' confused
I have a friend that texts me on a egular basis and she expects a full blown conversation over text once she gets startd.
Now - I use texts all the imte, when you need to say something and its not worth a phne call such as 'can you pick up some milk on your way home' or 'sorry, running late, be there in 10 mins' etc etc. Very handy, but when someone is trying to ask you eaxactly what you have said to who and when - why not just bloody ring them????
I cant afford to send endless texts and she gets rather irate.... then I just ignore her and she texts me again a few days later.. I think shes addicted...
People like that think that everyone has their phone on them all the time and is as sad as them - the fact is you have a life and he needs to be next to his phone to have one... so ignore him.
Thank you for letting me get that off my chest

Well that could be a mundane one or a dirty one, depending on exactly what the goat's butter was needed for....

Ermm, please refer to the what side is your toast buttered on thread LOL biggrin
I prefer acacia honey for the dirty version

I hate being rude to anyone but in this case I do think it was justified.......End of date, end of communication, person deleted from my email address book and from my mobile phone.
I love my mobile... but I do not let it interfere with my social graces or my lifestyle. Condoms are essential mobile phones are a convenience.
Judy

lol
you totally rock! (not to sound like a teenager or anything) last weekend we had a new guy and girl over to ours for drinks and a chat. We had met earlier at a pub and everything was going fine. As soons a they got in the house and settled down the TWO of them whipped out their phones and started texting people. My partner and I were left staring at each other at first, but then proceeded to make loud snide sarcastic comments to distract them. They did start laughing and put the phones down for the evening, but I just don't understand how people can be so rude and think everything is normal.

Yeah, some people do that at munches as well, text someone in the middle of a conversation, leaving me suddenly talking into thin air. evil .. Erm, well, I have also texted someone from a munch, but at least I went over into a quiet corner on my own to do it.
Ok, so completely against the grain of the rest of the thread, but.....
I would be completely, utterly, absolutely, devastatingly lost without my mobile! (do prefer talking to text though!)
