Those 'word' and 'song' threads have been locked.
Hands up, I've contributed! They did draw people into the forum.
But what next, what would you suggest to attract more forum posts, put the regulars off their guard?
The forum is open for suggestion, let the debacle begin.....
take a look at the amount of peeple that have posted in those threds and to take them off, i cannot see any reeson for it.
sometimes peeple make the strangest of decisions.
still i know of one member who will have one less thing on here to moan about i suppose.
I'm sure someone (Chief Kaiser?!) will start a new thread with the same themes but in true hollywood style it'll be called a re-imaging lol
To be honest, I didn't see what harm they were doing. With so many posts on them, there were obviously people who enjoyed them!
Now there's no where to put my sad obsession with 80s one hit wonders and sub-genre goth classics to any use!
Off to dig out Blue Zoos top twenty 'smash' from 1982, Cry Boy Cry.

They may have drawn people into the forum but quite a few of them only posted in those two threads or only supplied one line answers in other threads or birthday messages. Thers quite a few who I wont notice are gone if they dont carry on posting.
I never understood the popularity. I hate Sudoko but I hate maths in general however I can see why others like it. Its a challenge its an accomplishment to complete. I dont see anything to enjoy in the recently locked threads. No challege and no intelect required and I can hardly see anyone getting a sense of achievement or acomplishment from thinking of a word lol
That said it did not bother me that they were there or that they were used as I didnt read them. I was glad with the reduction of these types of threads when there were four or five it seemed to many.
Sure more interesting threads can be thought of biggrin

I'm sorry, but I don't have the imagination to start any new threads (I did once but it got deleted within five minutes!) and besides I think I have exhausted Half Man Half Biscuit's back catalogue (new album out next month though!).
So I guess my regular posting days here are over, apart from my occasional one-liners in other threads and I don't suppose some people will miss me, but I'm not really bothered after all it's not the be all and end all of life is it?

Hey chin up! You forgot birthday threads!
if i did not know any better i would think that the people who run this site, no longer want the forum to be part of this site dunno
threds seem to be getting locked at an alarming rate, as if few enough peeple are not posting on here as it is.
there are about 30 people posting on a site that aparently has nearly one and a half milion members. what does that tell you :dunno:
i would ask the peeple who are making these decisions to tell me what there long term goals and aims are for this site?
i suppose for our 15 pounds a month at leest we have now met peeple from here. we thought we never would so there are a few peeple here that meet. the other one million three hundred thgousand etc are obviously in the chat rooms.:notes:
I think it quite clearly shows they do not want what is commonly known as list threads. The forum has always been a miniscual part of the site compared to the actual amount of members so I guess 100 users or 30 users odes not matter maybe its the content thats more important dunno

Not really. Seven threads on page one, admittedly, but they're all the same type of thread, that Admin have clearly decided have run their course. These types of threads have always been locked eventually. Someone will probably start another at some point. Going back through the first half-a dozen pages though, less than one lock per page on average, and pretty obvious why they were locked. Hardly alarming?

That it doesn't really have one and a half a million members? Not in an active sense of the word anyways. 820 in chat at time of writing, but chat has always been busier than the forum. It's more immediate, isn't it. Similarly, there's always been a bit of an issue for some forum users with those who want to make the forum a bit more like a chatroom with one word threads and one word replies. The forum should be slower and more considered I think. That's it's strength.
N x x x ;)

if it got any slower it would start going back in time.
for a site that has so many members aparently, the amount of peeple that use it is well, no wonder it is as slow as it is.
by the look of things by the time you take away those peeple who have been writing replys in those new locked threds away, it will just stop.
is that what some would like to happen? as the reeson i ask this is that being a sado that i am, i have looked back over many months to many peeple moaning about how few peeple and new threds there are posting on the forum.
will the locking of these threds actualy encourage new posters dunno
if there was a scratch my head emotion i would use it over and over again.
The fact is the Forum is there as part of the site, but it has lots of sub-sections which do get used on a regular daily basis, don`t forget The Cafe is only one section and you really can`t make people post in it if they don`t want to dunno
Why do you think everything comes down to the site owners
I have never seen a section in the AUP which says "you can join but you must post in the Forum" :notes:

I agree, while simple forum game topics can be fun, they offer little in the way of real stimulation or interaction.
The Cafe and Current affairs forum is a place where users personality and character can be seen by observing their opinions and attitudes over time. Looking back at someone's posting history can really give you an idea of the person behind the avatar :scared:
But the forum is what the forum is, bunch of people typing stuff - we arent all gonna get on and we wont all be happy all of the time wink

As one of the people who is very happy about the demise of the song game and the word association threads I suppose I ought to say something lol
With every change and/or locked thread many people appear to expect an immediate effect. It just isn`t going to happen ! It`s the whole nature of forums and chatrooms that changes will take weeks or even months to have an effect. If anybody expects the forums to be suddenly revitalised by the passing of these threads when it has taken months for them to bring the place down, they are being unrealistic.
I must admit I was a bit surprised that chief kaisers protest ressurections were stomped on quite so quickly ....I was looking forward to a Sunday involving a bit of fun while discussing the whole thing but it seems that somebody decided against that sort of thing .....oh well ....never mind .

I always thought that you didn't have a problem with them, it was their introduction into the cafe when the JFF section was merged that was the issue? dunno
These thread had been up and running for roughly 2 years before hand and its only since they have been moved that conplaints of their use has arisen leading to their subsequent locking. Looking back now was it such a good idea for admin to move the JFF threads? How many more have been closed? :undecided:

The Forum presently from where I sit seems to be populated by the same people that continue winge, have a POP at each other and then mock newbies!
Time for change, I anticipate a reaction from those same posters
But I guess their replies are selective based on the topic!

It seems that a lot of the posts you start are to get a reaction so it's hardly rocket science or really 'anticipating' one now is it? It's a bit like saying 'if I smack someone in the face, I'll bet you £100 they'll smack me back or yelp!' sad And then jumping up and down and saying 'I told you so!' dunno
Simply and directly put, I'd suggest that the Forum isn't the major source of income for SH's owners - the Chat rooms are and so as business people they will likely be focusing their efforts there. I'd also suggest that the ROI on their time invested in sorting some of the petty issues on the Forums just isn't justified and I know where I'd spend my time and effort if it was my business!
Threads are also more often locked by Moderators and not the site owners. Moderators are not paid by or employees of SH and tend to lock threads based on their experience of what does and doesn't work, having been here for some time. That's not to say what worked then won't work now but although the people change, patterns of behavior don't change that quickly as flower411 has already pointed out. It takes time.

With some of your posts from the last month having a pop at other members, you better be careful getting off that horse, its mighty high wink
