Just wondered, who uses condoms during play with new people and who doesn't...??
I know what the sensible answer is, I just wondered what the real answer is???
Bari.
Real answer is 'yes'. Fantasy answer is 'no'... clear??? Keep safe!

totally agree with jags......you have to be on some kind of death wish to not use them.....
Biggest rise in those who are HIV + is amongst the hetrosexual brigade, that means me. (don't mean that I am HIV +, phew!) I don't want to die cos I had a horny fuck, so my deep desire to have that horny fuck won't stop me from taking basic safety steps. It's not a slur on your good name, or even on your good dick so think safe. Cover dick every trip.

Wouldn't dream of making love without a glove, stay safe people.
love, Mark and Linda
If you go walking in the cuntry you must put on your wellie boots first.
Putting on a condom doesn't have to spoil the fun. Try getting your partner to put it on you with their mouth and their hands behind their back, tis always good for a giggle.

Oh I absolutely agree with all of the above!
I just wondered whether people really honestly did, all the time....??
Bari.
Well all I can say on my behalf is yes I always make the man wear a condom cause one I dont fancy having a kid just yet and two i dont want to be in with a chance of catching anything.
As they say "no glove --- no love" or to put it in a cruder fashion "no bag...no shag".. lol
Oh! I live old threads being revived.. had my say months ago!

but... all of the comments referred to shagging... what about oral.. eh? eh? still a risk.. what you all reckon?
Would this be a spit or swallow debate by any chance???
Well - what I teach is that it takes approx 5 litres of body fluid to be ingested, whilst you have an open wound and in an airtight situation, for the risk of HIV infection to be increased. That works out at about 6 months of continuous snogging (( I expect)). The risk is in the male semen.
I think the risk of transmitting herpes is greater.
Off to gargle with Listerine now....

jags, if this is your idea of a chat up line - it stinks.
"scuse me darling, would you like to ingest 5 litres of body fluid"
I prefer "get your coat darling, you've pulled"

5 litres? There you go, guys - that's a lot to live up to! So, it's Ok to swallow I guess - well, at least a little bit - PLEASE! lol
Have a look at this - I need to think about the swallowing semen thing, it's OK if you haven't got a wound in your mouth or attendant tubes!
Thanks for the link, Jags, we're generally very jovial on here but it's good that serious subjects come up every now and again smile
According to research I have read (which was carried out over many years in the San Francisco area, where 47% of gay/bi men are HIV+), there has been only 3 reported cases of HIV infection through oral sex.
The research only dealt with male to male oral sex but the theory still applies.
The three reported cases were: where one guy had deep oral sex with a chap that apparently was over 12ins and the tender area of the back of the throat was damaged. It is recomended not to have deep throat with a large penised guy.
Second, and a little more sharp-in-take of breath, was the guys foreskin got caught in the teeth of the other guy and obviously blood was then present.
Can't remember the third reason!
In each case it was the GIVER, rather than the receiver, who contracted the virus, and obviously the HIV virus has to be present in the receiver. There have been no reported cases of the virus being passed on to the RECEIVER if the giver is infected.
Swallowing is apparently safer, as the virus cannot survive in the stomach with all the acids we have. But it still has to pass into the mouth and down so I can't work that one out. Precum has been known to contain the virus.
But, only 3 cases in San Francisco since the virus was first known about in the 80s - the risk is small I would say.
Ta!
Macman - that's put my mind at rest, thanks! The bit about the teeth and the foreskin  made me squirm even though I haven't got a foreskin to get stuck anywhere, and the 12 incher, well enough said! I not sure, judging by 1 and 2 that I even want to know what 3 is! confused
np bluexxx.
Of course, that said, anywhere you read will state it is theoretically possible to contract thru oral, but VERY, VERY unlikely. I mean, imagine all the stuff that goes in San Francisco alone. It is a shame that 47% are infected though
We all know what is TOTALLY safe, but that's boring!
Indeed we do know what we should do, but what we DO do isn't always the wisest thing. It's quite reassuring that lots of people have got the message re. condoms and sex, I mean at clubs men don't generally even have to be told to wear one - that's gotta be one Government education policy that's done some good wink
Thanks to this thread I am now going to scare the SHIT out of my PGCE group of students on Tuesday!!! Now that makes me happy - sad, but happy.

OK, this is how I keep the issue sane and sensible in my head.
The virus is a little bugger, wants to invade, take over, and control your body so that it can reproduce. It has to get into the blood stream to do this (fact check??). It does appear in other fluids, but blood is where it most likes to be.
Your body has defences. One of the little buggers is not enough to overwhelm and defeat these defences.
The more of the little buggers get in, the greater the chance they have of winning the battle.
An open wound of any sort is the easiest exit from, and entrance to a body, and they get straight into what they are really looking for, the blood stream. And the little buggers take full advantage.
It's a war, and anything we can do to help the defences will reduce the risk of losing it.
Penis, vagina, mouth, anus, they are all delicate areas, easily damaged, with lots of blood vessels close to the surface. Especially during sex.
Helps me to think about it as a practical problem.

I did A level biology a lot of years ago now, and always thought of virual infections in the same way as you describe - worked for me wink
