Yes once again I find myself pondering over online seed catalogues trying to decide what to grow this year, am posting a battered container amnesty on my works notice board in order to gain much needed vessels to hold my beloved plants through their nursery stage and adulthood may be cheeky and ask for jamjars and glass bottles as well for preserving time come autumn. I know we all have strange pastimes on here , am I alone in looking forward to a fresh new growing season.
Feb's stuff was sown in the greenhouse on Sunday!! Spuds are chitting as well.
Very excited about a raised veg bed this year, giving me much more scope - as have been limmited to growing in pots in previous years. My snowdrops are looking amazing - my absolute favourite flower, but one you can't really buy by the bunch, I think snowdrops are the thing I like the best at this time of year!
Glad Im not alone, I grow all my own veg all year round, at one point I was in danger of becoming a right good life freak, with chicken's,goat's and pig's, as well as the odd bottle fed lamb chucked in for good measure.
for those that do grow there own food or are interested in flower growing
heres a good link i found years ago and still use it
as im changing my back garden to 1/2 garden washing line area and 1/2 of an allotment for me to grow my plants in its time for me to get building my shed there and get started soon
thompson and morgan and suttons catalogues already dogeared. For more substantial quantities i'll be using Walpoles, Hargreaves or Woods for supplies
I love our allotment although due to family issues we have not done a blind thing to it over the winter, dreading going back up there now, scared to what I might find.
Having said that I have started dabbling with the seeds I have and have been looking longingly at the garden centre when ever we drive past.

I have first earlies, 2nd earlies and main crop, but you still need to chitt them, the first earlies, will go in in 3 weeks or so if they are ready.
If anyone wants to come and take me through a year of planting techniques for garden produce I would be eternally grateful as I want to good life, the chickens and home grown food! I start every year planting things but green fingers is not my talent although I did have toms and peppers last year.

I have sent you a pm with a link to a site you might like!
Well, I went to a garden centre today and had a very happy time browsing the seed racks and selecting my veg for the year.
Odd thing though - plenty of most things except red cabbage. Two on offer and both of them F1 hybrids. And cabbage doesn't warrant F1 hybridding, just some nice standard types. So there you go - everything except one, bought.
And entered in my book to try to make a sensible record of what I do this year so I can improve next year. I can never remember what I bought from one year to the next.
Very excited about the chillies, I'm planning to have loads of them strung up in the kitchen - gorgeous red heat, drying ready for use.
I have peppers growing on my kitchen windowsill they are yellow presently I did take one off a cpl of weeks ago that went a beautiful orange , it wasnt particularly big but tasted devine. Yesterday i took possesion of a strawberry planter have only grown em in buckets before so am hopeing for a bumber crop this year as they are one of my favorite fruits. My garlic that has been in a trough for a few years is growing well, i never completely harvest all of this so it just keeps growing year after year.
Apparently chillies are almost as easy as tomatoes but need some heat to germinate (just spent £15 on a small heated propagator) and the warmer they are when growing, the hotter the chilli.
We shall see - mine are going out in the garden - although some corners are nice and sheltered sun-traps.
I'll b growing my own cabbages this year......
not for us 2 eat though.....
they r4 the Butterflies 2 lay their eggs on :bounce:
