Does Christmas TV seem like shit to you now? Wasn't it much better 20 years ago. I always try to remember one of my favorite saying which is "No matter how good today is yesterday was always better" I try to think in that context but when it comes to TV it seems no matter how hard I try Christmas TV when I was younger certainly was much better.
Here are some link to a few of my all time fave from Christmas past
The box of delights

And one of my all time faves Quincy's quest with Tommy Steel lol

I can remember seeing Quincy's quest when I was very young and looking for it again every Christmas but not seeing it for quite some years.
Quincy's quest is for kids and should remain as a memory but I wish they would re-run the box of delights, think I could sit through that again with the kids biggrin
Absolutely with you on this one. The likes of the Morcambe and Wise Xmas specials were a real treat back then and I'm sure they'd be no less funny today. Can't forget the 2 Ronnies was TV the family could all agree on and not divisive like much of the stuff we'll get these days.
I won't be watching the Strictly and X factor specials that's for sure.
classic Eric and Ernie....
We were just talking about this the other day.
When we were kids, Mum and Dad used to buy the Radio and TV times and we would each go though it and circle the things we wanted to watch over Christmas. There would be arguements about what we were going to watch if 2 programme times clashed. (Showing my age now as we didnt have a VCR!!)
There were soooooo many Christmas specials and films and they didnt start so early in December which made the period between Christmas Eve and New Years day even more special.
Now the Christmas period is taken up by soaps and reference to Christmas on TV starts way too early. It's starting to feel like Christmas starts at the beginning of November!!
Know all about the Radio Times. Madame Smooth still circles the films and progs she wants to see......usually only watches the big ones. Further to the 'most irritating Christmas advert' it seems that Christmas just like any other part of the year is being manipulated by the big stores, " Your Christmas entertainment is brought to you by ********ys.....are we supposed to be grateful????????????
We remember 'THE GOOD OL' DAYS' with the likes of M&W, Mike Yarwood, Les Dawson and all the other greats of the time. We may have moved on with all the PC crap and everything but I bet that any of the older shows aired over Christmas now will be on equal viewing figures with whatever delights (for delights read REPEATS!) the TV bosses or whoever have planned for our 'entertainment'.

Maybe a little bit geeky, but I've always really enjoyed the Royal Institution Christmas lectures. Aimed at kids, I've learned a lot from them and wish science lessons at school had been that good. Back on the BBC this year too, BBC4 I think, enjoy lol
TV in general reminds me of this

The same percentage of production funding is now spread across a wider range, why have a shirt of the finest silk when you can have a wardrobe full of itchy cotton ones you don't like rolleyes

 I seem to spend my time watching the Quest channel if i have the telly on now- geek TV, plus, it seems like the only one that isn't trying to get me to vote for something tedious and pointless on a premium rate phone line
As far as I know Morcame and Wise only made one Xmas special - and it's been on every year since. It was rubbish then and it still is. Most of them were/are. My opinion only - I know may people loved them - I didn't.
I loved Box of Delights, and for some reason goodnight Mr Tom was on at Christmas a few years back too. They were both great. Mr Tom was on a while back, but I'm not sure Box of Delights was ever repeated. Such a shame.
Call me a geek---I bloody loved them then and I do now.

Why Don't You Just Switch Off Your Television Set And Go Out And Do Something Less Boring Instead?
Like ironing :bounce:

We bought the box of delights in the end biggrin
The one thing i really used to look forward to over Christmas was the great classic "ghost story". The BBC and ITV both showed some superb spooky tales .
Im not sure they did one this year or i may have just missed it.
The ones that spring to mind are..
The Woman In Black, Xmas eve 1989 on ITV,
Charles Dickens The Signalman 22 December 1976 BBC.
