I think that countries in the developed world can't afford to have a complete failure in a government. It may falter but there will always be contingency planning.
I think just like any high street store ,at xmas, the boffins, eggheads and specialists are already planning the next election. They will have a handful of earmarked possibilities, they are already grooming.
No doubt we have just the same here at home. There's always someone waiting in the wings.
Barack is a decent guy, but he's already sounding bewildered. (Something that appears to happen to any president or prime minister). The machine of Americanism is too powerful for one man to control.

I'm an old cynic just like yourself, but truly it is worth having a surf around and reading something of the man and his story thus far - of if you are afraid of biased internet reporting try listen again at Radio 4 - they did an excellent bio on him last week.
I realise we have to take all politics with a pinch of salt, but since the revolution looks a ways off yet and we seem stuck with the status quo - it does do an old cynics heart some good when he gets the idea that an exceptional statesman may be approaching.
Have a read anyway, its an interesting story either way.
Sorry it is a fact that more Black Americans voted, than they ever have done before.
If I was a black American I would have voted for him, after all the white establishment have treated the black Americans pretty much like crap, for years.
An example of that is the floods in New Orleans. If that would have been in an affluent white American city, there would have been much more done, than there was.
As I have already said, from what I know about the guy, he seems a really nice guy and a great family man. The problems that he faces, along with some that do not want him to be President because of his colour, will be a massive problem for his security team.
America cannot do any worse than under GWB. I hope he can solve some of the Worlds problems but...... first he must sort out Americas. That will not be easy.

Strikes me that a little knowledge is a dangerous if youre gonna have a president dealing with massive problems you want the best one you can get.
Anyway have a listen to the show if you have time, its very interesting and somewhat more in depth than perhaps Gaunty would have done.

I will have a listen. For the record " Gaunty " was 100% behind Obama. He had nothing but praise for the guy, and my comments have been based solely on facts from American sources and debates I have listened too.
As for the " best one you can get ", it seemed to me the American people had two options. An old Vietnam veteran....past his sell by date. How old is that guy? Or.....Barrack Obama, who like our own ex Prime minister Tony Blair, seems to have it all. The looks, the youth, the pure get up and " get it done " attitude. Then Blair got into power, and look what has happened since.
Out of the two candidates, I would have voted for Obama everytime.
As I have said I like the guy. He seems an honest person but.....they all seem to promise things UNTIL they get into power. Time will of course tell if he has the " balls ". If he does not, the Western world could be seriously in the shite, both financially and militarilly.

Take this from someone who was born in the Southern US... and still has relatives down there....
if you have one parent who is white, and one parent who is black.... you have been in the past, are now, and will probably always be, treated as black........
not saying it is right or wrong, just telling it like it is.....
in fact.. mixed race kid were probably treat worse in the past as a whole....

I may be wrong but i believe the post about the white thief is a reference to America being taken from the native american ... ie the indian. Anyway that is history and like it has been said great leaps have been made to have a black President ... just hope he proves to be a good President irrespective of his race etc ...

I watched a programme last night about the rise from birth of Barack Obama, while I always watch sure programmes with an open and cynical mind.
I do think that a man that has his obstacles’ to overcome not only mixed race but from a broken home from the age of two. He had schooling and spent some early years living in Indonesia, went on to graduate in political science and specialised in international relations, then found this wasn’t enough to make change, so went to Harvard to study and graduate in Law. Plus travelled to Africa to find him self and where he had come from.
I think he has great credentials for the job in hand, I wish his mum was alive to see her son, she was the back bone for raising what seems to me a well adjusted open minded individual, I say well done to her it couldn’t have been easy.
I think and hope he is able to carry out what I feel is in his heart, I have never looked at and a political person in this way before.
He has won me over.

I may be wrong but.... I have never heard of a black or Asian person being prosecuted or persecuted for being racist to whites.
The comment is out of context, but no doubt over history the whites did " acquire " land and countries. But come on most of that was done hundreds of years ago, in a different time and a different era. We are more civilised now........no?

If everyone gave back every country that was invaded or the original people were allowed the land back, then there would be mayhem.

All peoples of European and African descent should have to leave the Americas and Australaisia. Do the New Zealanders have to go back East to polynesia? The land they inhabited had no-one living there.......so can they keep it? What about the places in the Americas that did not have anybody living there.....are the Europeans and Africans allowed to keep that or do they have to give it all back.

This is being part of the human species. Untill we reached this part of our history, we have always fought wars and conquered lands. Now we are supposed to be civilised, so we don't conquer lands........we just help the local government or persecuted people out but give them their land back, after they sign the contract rights of their manufacturing over to us :lol:
