If you want transparency then we need to pay them a bigger wage without the allowances. People would probably go ape at that as well though.

Most people out there would give their right arms for a job that paid in excess of 60 grand a year. With a second home and free mod cons thrown in. Also all the other freebies like their expenses and their free lunches.
Also lets not forget 13 weeks a year holidays? People out there work three times harder than most MP'S for nowhere near the money they get.
I think they are paid enough and also agree that most of them would not last a month in the " real world " that the rest of us have to live in.
They don't get a bad screw out of being an MP, I for one would love to have their salary, but alas like most others have to soldier on paying ever increasing fuel costs and energy bills, and food rises. Second homes? Blimey I would love one and paid for by someone else? Hands up who else would?
if you think you good enough....you think you could do the job..then stand for election. No one stopping you. You talk about them lasting in the real world.. the majority come from jobs that pay more than the MP salary and have just as many perks. Indeed..trust me in private industry..the fiddles that go on cost us for more in lost tax revinue. As for hours..well they normally start a typical day at the contincency office at 8ish...most days will have meeting at house of commons offices...where they draft bills for parliment etc etc...these normally start about .and can go on anytime up to and after midnight. they are also called to chamber in house of Commons. the house starts sitting at 2pm...and once again sitting are anytime up to and after midnight. You have to be available quite often incase there is a vote called and you are required. Haveing worked closely with one member of parliment, I can tell you, that the majority work damn hard, and long hours. You may not agree with the decisions they make, but you do duly have the right to vote them out. Once again..i say..if people really think they can do a better job...then stand up..and be counted...and put yourself forward on the ballot paper

Lets just say that I say Ok I will stand in an election. Firstly you have no chance unless you belong to one of the three main parties. To stand a chance you would have to say join the Labour party and then get nominated by that party for you to stand. I don't think that would be easy at all. Of course I could stand as mr777 the swingers party, but as an independant I would probably get about 5 votes. lol
It is very easy to say stand yourself but it is about as difficult as getting a straight answer out of an MP. Usually you have to belong to a party for quite a while to be even considered to stand and represent that party. There are many independants who do stand but I cannot think of one with the exception of Galloway who does not belong to one of the major parties. Ciorrect me if I am wrong and no doubt I am.
Anyone think of a good independent name if I want to stand?
indeed..i think at last count was about 20 truely independant MP's. But that is only because people don't vote for them..and prefer one of the main parties. I do think it would be refreshing to see more independant MP's. But that is what is so great about the democracy we live in....we do thankfully have the choice.

Ah that lovely word...democracy.
Is that the same democracy where the MP'S were forced to vote with the Government over the 42 day terrorist vote? The same democracy where you are threatened with having your whip taken away unless you toe the party line, even though you may be against the way you are being told to vote?
Ah democracy....Now I know why this country is so great. lol
The trouble with being an independant is that you really have no clout at all. You are a lone voice. Most MP'S come from wealthy background or have been something like a doctor. The likes of me would never stand a chance. So even though you say I could stand for an MP,it would never happen as I dont have the right criteria. Oh............but if only I could.
would change a few things.
