since we got asked to seperate the music from the political.... i thought i would put this up

please click on the link, hopefully you will find out more about what it is they are trying to achieve, and how you can help....
and before you ask "well how can one person make a difference?" think of this.... 25 MILLION people have signed the petition.... that is 25,000,000 "one people" who feel they can help make a difference....
i doubt whether this will stay on page one for long, judging by what has been written in other threads.......
but i would like to believe that i have faith in a whole lot of people here........
remember the slogan "we dont your money, we want justice"

AT LAST, WISH I COULD HAVE SAID IT SO WELL ............ I LOVE YOU FOR THIS ..................!!! XXX
I signed this morning
I'm just glad it's going well, but it's a shame theres still a few people who don't care.
But ah well, thats the way the world works. Better having some people caring than none at all confused
my name is down too, its a damn good cause and everybody should show their support smile
I'm not much of one for politics usually but I did put my name on the list for this.
I have to be cynical though and say the G8 are probably planning on selling the countries arms and other stuff to make up for the money they won't be getting in debt repayments.
me too, biggrin ive signed wink
I'll believe it when I see it...
signed in triplicate, lost, found, sent in, sent back, lost again and finally recycled as firelighters. rolleyes
Can't see the US Gov doing anythng, positive, at all really.

i signed it yesterday whiklst watching live 8, what a concert !!!! although i was pissing myself laughing most of the day!!!.watching macca bop to snoop dogg just did it for me!!!
maybe im just emotional but it really upset me esp the u2 n macca preformance there's me crying!!! it was a very emotional day for me.........................maybe because it was the time of the month???????????
louxxxxxxxx
i know what you mean about emotional moments... the video playing behind annie lennox when she was singing "why" just about said it for me.. and when they brought out the girl who only had "10 minutes to live" 20 years ago for me shows that something can be done...and we must all keep up the pressure to make sure it is done...
i am going to the demo in edinburgh on wednesday and hopefully we can all in our own way make a difference....

i would love to see the end of hunger
to see the children over there is heartbreaking
sadly i don't think it will happen in my life time all we can do is try
Have to say tho u have to take your hat off to Sir Bob that man has done so much for these people the amount of his own time and money he has put into this shows real dedication.

Aid is usually given with conditions that the African countries have to adhere to. These usually include harsh economic ones. Whilst the world is governed by global capitalist I think the hope of change in Africa is very slim. I do hope that live8 makes a difference but do we really trust Bush. I for one certainly don't.
Hey Fabs,
I went to Live 8 at the Eden Project. For those of you who didn't cotton on, that was the concert with all the performers from Africa. The best performers from Africa - the ones who can show people that Africa is ready, is emerging, has it's own culture and needs our support and our political action, not just our cash.
They asked us to help get rid of dictators (he was from Zimbabwe) and to open up our trade (Youssou N’Dour). Whatever country they were from they had their own message, appreciating our support and asking for it to continue.
To say I enjoyed it is an understatement. I am still buzzing. It was one of the best times I've ever had. Iit was like being at one great party and every performance was superb. Professional, musical, uplifting - I never stopped grinning for 24 hours and I wasn't the only one. The whole thing just felt right. Hyde Park ended with Paul McCartney ("I thought he was dead") and 'Long and winding road'. We ended with over 50 African musicians in the costumes of their countries and an African choir singing the African national anthem. Even the guys were crying.
If you are ever struggling with your consience about what to do find an African. Ask them.
Jezzay.

To be honest I felt uncomfortable watching the main live8 concert. All those white millionaires up on stage going on about poverty in Africa when the real people that it effects were shoved to one side down in Cornwall. I appreciate what Bob is trying to do but he really should have had African performers at Hyde Park
To be totally honest the first reason I went was to see all the great bands playing and for the atmosphere. But yesterday actually being there and seeing all these people together for the one cause was just amazing and I had a change of heart right from the start of being there. I have now signed up, posted my ugly mug and sent the email thing too.
I think the main message I got from the whole thing is: All we can do is try. If we sit back and do nothing, nothing will change. If we at least try, something might change.
I'm still buzzing from the whole experience.....very tired but buzzing nonetheless!

Without wishing to be cynical and I am not condeming you or the concert but the world dosn't change through a concert or signing a petiton. It changes through continuous political activism.

Thats very true.. The worst poverty stricken countries in Africa are in poverty NOT because they owe money to the West. They are like that because their governments are corrupt, and spend a very significant proportion of their contries wealth on weapons, to ensure that the current president / dictator's position in power is secure.... so they can bleed the country dry on luxuries for their family and supporters. Any debt relief here will most likely go on further weapons...
To try amd stop this the west can do one important thing.... stop supplying weapons to them!!
Britain has a VERY poor record in supplying countries with dubious human rights records with guns / tanks etc. Burma and Iraq and numerous African states are a few which spring to mind.
Its an extremely difficult situation, which has no one "answer" to it. Debt relief, Financial aid with no "condtions", disaster aid, lifting of trade restrictions all nedd to be employed, but the corruption will always be present.
how do we get rid of the corrupt leaders? Instigate "regime change" as in Iraq? leading to civil war while the various factions try to gain powers? with possibly millions dying in the conflict? (such as in Rwanda in '93 - 2 million killed in a tribal war)
Or economic sanctions? leading to millions dying of starvation?
Its a huge problem that only time can sort out..
Oh, and by the way... I did sign up as well biggrin

Yes I know that....I was merely stating that if no one tries to change things then nothing will change!
I agree, it will take more than a concert and a few petitions but I'm doing my bit to help and so are lots of other people. I don't have power to change things, all I can do is follow the lead of others and make my small contribution. You never know unless you try.

biggrin
Who Remembers NetAid then or who has contributed via this site to help world poverty?
Another set of concerts drawing your attention to the issues in October 1999 in London, New York & Geneva Highlighting the creation of the web site in Sept 1999
