Dear All,
Watched with great anticipation the final episode of:
The Sopranos on E4 (Freeview, Digital & Cable). – ‘Made In America’.
At first I was really excited because I wanted closure of this amazing Television series.
Yet it didn’t give me what I wanted?
I was really angry due to being a committed fan of the show & I wanted or more to the record felt that this series owed me something.
Yet it didn’t. As am typing this up I now realize that for a little bit last night I was just like many people I know that watch Soap Operas & get all wound up. Either in loving or hating the characters that exist within fictional areas of East London, South Manchester or suburban Melbourne.
I endlessly laugh at these people especially as the acting is terrible & whilst my beloved ‘The Sopranos’ has the production values of a major Motion Picture, I became engrossed.
Therefore turning into the very thing that I mocked, how ironic.
My understanding of the final episode is that:
The more things change the more they stay the same.
Or in another manner of putting it… different trainers still Adidas.
Well if you want to know more have a look at the following:
If you did watch it... what DID you make of the final episode & the very original end?
Goodbye my friend... we did have some fun together:
Having watched the series from Episode 1, my initial reaction at the ending was one of complete frustration, so much so that I shouted at the telly, something I never do unless Chelsea are playing!
However on reflection I now think the ending was absolutely stunning, probably one of the best ever endings to one of the best ever series.
It's an 'open ending' so make of it what you will.
From the 'hit' on Phil Leotardo onwards, I was second guessing the outcome - and definitely expecting the series ending with a 'bang'. That it didn't, doesn't mean that it ended in a whimper instead - something for which David Chase should be congratulated.
I particularly enjoyed the homage paid to The Godfather in having the restaurant setting and the guy going off to the rest room - my mind did indeed have him collecting a 'piece' from behind the cistern.
My own interpretation for the ending - with the focus on Meadow, the conversation earlier with Tony about him being hauled away by the FBI and the revelation that one of the crew had 'turned' - is that it is indeed 'same s**t, different day', and that Tony is picked up by the FBI. Whether he would then 'beat the rap' is another story, which will never be made!
This and the West Wing have been the best dramas on tv for years. The only 2 programmes that have left me wanting more but have also made me think that was clever as much as shake my head with confusion.
I had avoided as much as I could about the ending which turned out to be very easy as it was run tighter than harry potter. I read Al Gore was going to be on a plane at the time of showing and asked for a preview tape and he got told no. I had read tho that Chase had said there was not going to be a film, any 1 off episodes or spin off series.
Everyone expected (wanted?) a big ending and for some reason I said it was just going to end with nothing major like Tony dying, FBI etc. Not sure why other than if it has never really done the usual series endings on big cliffhanger type things and even 'big' events have happened at beginning/ middle of episodes and I also thought if Tony had died or been arrested people would then just of said it was an obvious ending.
Don't get me wrong, even in last episode I had moments when I thought he might get whacked or that the whole fbi terrorist 'friend' was a set up but I bottom line, hats off to Chase and the ending in my opinion. Just a nod on the man in the bar and the godfather thing - apparently 'the man' was friend not foe and had been in a few episodes in earlier series.
