Today I read someones thread about a new even more stupid tax for Hotels that annoyed me. I thought it would be interesting to see what taxes annoy you the most.

Mine in order are these, I was trying to run a poll but I guess I screwed it up
1. Tax on Petrol over 80% now and they even charge VAT on the tax??
2. Council Tax less services more money 5% over nflation this year
3. Fag and booze tax, I dont smoke but a box is just stupid

Been reduced to 5%
Different Rates of VAT
There are three rates:
17.5% standard rate - most goods and services
5% educed rate - fuel and power used in the home and by charities/ women's sanitary products
0% zero rate - certain goods and services on which you do not need to charge VAT

Did you know that VAT was introduced as a temporary Emergency Tax years back for some crisis or other.
Seems someone forgot to remove it again :doh:

The one I think is the most obscene though is 'Death Duty'... Like they havn't already had tax off everything you had purchased anyway then the cheeky feckers want more out of what you were left with after paying everything to start with!!!

Some french politician has recently suggested taxing emails as a way of funding the EU. Quite how they'd enforce it I don't know confused

useless fact .....
Jaffa cakes are zero rated as cakes aren't considered luxury but strangely biscuits are :shock: Go figure

Income tax whe you shouldn't be paying it! I've had a nightmare this last week between work and tax. Having been at uni and only working in my hols I haven't earnt enough to pay tax, but obviously did pay some while I was working. They're so quick to tak it off you, but not as quick to refund it! I phoned my tax office today. They went through all the details on my P60 with me and the woman agreed I shouldn't have paid any tax, but in order to get it back I have to write them a letter explaining when I have worked and why I feel I shouldn't have payed tax! Well, isn't that already obvious from my P60??? Best of all it's currently taking them 6-8 weeks to get through the post!

I don't agree at all that the hospitals, schools, roads are crap. As for politicians - you get what you deserve. Why not stand for Parliament yourself if you think they are crap>
The use of public services is increasing at a great rise than can be met. There are hundreds of old/badly maintained/dangerous schools out there which really need closing, not to mention the falling birth rate, but when it's suggested the public start bouncing their banners in the air screaming about it. The Government is investing Â£1.1 BILLION (TCF - Targeted Capital Fund) in major renewing, or refurbishing primary and secondary schools in England which can't wait for the monies from Building Schools for the Future (BSF) which aims to rebuild or renew every secondary school in England over a 10-15 year period.
Please don't damn everything without taking helping to make the changes!!

Council Tax mad

currently paying a much lower amount than many people - but I'd love to know exactly what it is I get for my a month.
Knackered roads with pot holes the size of the grand bloody canyon, bins emptied per fornight not weekly, gritter lorries dont have us on the map, no local police station just a mobile unit parked in the town 3 days per week, a massive crime and drugs problem, a sexual health clinic with no nurse, other voluntary sector projects that serve the community closing like dropping like flies because the borough council wont help fund them.....
and they dont hang about if you're late with a payment - my Â£87 pays their stationary bill I think for the nasty threatening letters they send out to pensioners who cant afford their damn council tax out of their measly pension. Its money down the feckin drain, may as well have a bonfire every month and light the bloody thing with Â£10 notes. evil

our council tax is higher than a lot of other areas, and yet we get a lesser service than them!
when ilived ooppp north i paid a lower rate of council tax, but the facilities were a million times better than i get here.

Simple answer to that one - up north (where the air is better) fewer people are living so the council tax money goes a longer way. Down south is more densely populated so the demands on all the services are greater - except Westminster Council where, for many years, there was no local taxation. Think it's changed now though!

I don't mind paying tax at all, its just the number of times we have to pay tax on everything that pisses me of.......
Lets say i buy a nice new leather flogger :twisted:
First i have paid tax on my wages...
the ones that breed and sell the cows would have to pay tax mad

the ones that makes the floggers pay the tax :x
the middle man pays the tax :x
the shop pays there tax :x
i pay my tax when i buy the item :x
Then there is V.A.T
Might not be in that order but you get my point ? :x

That's still a 5% tax on having your perdiod which is not only stupid but unfair, and these are products that I buy from my wages that have already been taxed!!
