ok, as a few people have pointed out, all our old "deleted" pm's have been put back into our inboxes.
this looks to most of us like they must have been kept somewhere,
for the sake of reasuring us, could someone please explain what is going on with them and the process of them being deleted (or not!!), as i for one am more than a bit concerned now!
there was the scare a cpl of weeks ago when people were worried others had access to their pm's, this is only going to make that all worse again!
this should be interesting.
Knocks our name problem into a cocked hat.
Please Please Please put the site back to how it was on the 12/12/05. Error messages, cant find this, that and the other............................... AAAARRRRRGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Of course the PM's don't really get deleted. They're to valuable. All youve got to do is set up a search of the PM database for telephone numbers, addresses etc and you can sell them.
Of course I wouldn't suspect that for a minute.
The PM's that are now back in my inbox seem to be quite random. If all the PM's that have been deleted before are back in then I'm missing a lot of them. Must of happened during migration.
This message is just really to check to see if
a) my avatar is on view (aka mals bum)
b) my signature is on view.
Noticed the radio buttons when setting up your forum settings are a bit off, you can't have both your signature and your avatar selected to 'yes'.
I've my fingers crossed that things will be all ok after the migration and bugs found. If you want any error testers just give me a pm/shout/tap on my shoulder.
I will leave this thread open - because it is a separate and specific issue about PMs, and not about site changes.

PM's are stored in the mysql database. When you delete them, basically they are made invisible, but kept in the database.
Only Admins with DB access can view them in the stored sql form. Some forum software also encrypts the message, so they cannot be read in the database anyhow.
You'd need to be able to log into the sql database, so not viewable to all and sundry.
This is nothing untowards, and is standard with almost all forum/bulletin softwares.
Sometimes, when a back-up of the database is restored, as is probably the case here where the forum has been updated, then it is possible for those messages to re-appear in your pm box.
I am webmaster/site owner for several forums, so am well aquainted with this.

I have just got a pm from Fabio, clicked on reply and then got a message to say that the user is not recognised???????
Also got pm's going back to when I first joined, think I need to book a day off work just to delete them!
St3v will it be possible to have a tracking system in the new mail system? I ask because previously when sending out munch invites, it was useful to see who had picked up the pm and who hadn't etc, you could prove that someone had received the pm. With this system when you send "send" you have no way of proving that the person ever received it.
