Anybody who got that sort of alignment right wasn't stoned...
but anyway interesting philosophical question..my serious answer would be to go back in time to 20th April 1889 to a place called Braunau-Am-Inn Austria and strangle the fourth child of a certain Alois and Klara Hitler, thus preventing WWII, The Holocaust, The Cold War and the middle east state of Israel.
I'm sure I've heard of at least one novel that has a very similar premise - only problem (at least from that author's POV) is that the Nazis appear anyway (Hitler didn't create them, he merely took over a pre-existing group of violent idiots) and they end up being led by somebody who isn't a completely power-crazed nutter and are thus on the winning side in WWII.
I'm sure somebody could enlighten me as to the name of this book, it's temporarily escaped my recall.
I'm currently playing Red Alert, a 1996 video game in which Einstein goes back in time to kill Hitler, and instead of Wor War II followed by a cold war there is a World War II pitting the west against the Soviets.
I would like to read your book though, as Hitler, despite his military genius (yes he might have been the worst son of a bitch of all time but you can't deny that he conquered half of Europe starting from a mostly demilitarised Germany), made several mistakes that cost him the war (like switching from bombing military bases in England to bombing civil target because of the suicide bombing of Berlin by some British aviators and opening the eastern front way too soon) and had he not made them we might all be speaking German (the tall, blond, blue eyed ones of us anyway ).
As for where would I go myself? Roman time and the 60's seem good places to start, although as a computer geek I would have to say that MIT in the 60's and 70's or Bell labs in the late 60's and 70's would have been as interesting for totally different reasons.
