Hey Everyone......I have been burning the candle at both ends, getting up at 7am and going to bed near enough at 2am.....
I'm finding it really hard to stay awake now and I think it's because I find it difficult to sleep without waking up several times in the night.
I can't take Pro Plus because it makes me dizzy.....does anyone know of anything natural that I can take to keep me awake?
Your help would be appreciated.....Thanks Guys....
I do nights regular, and have tried the many types of common drinks like red bull etc, but to be honest they taste YUKK... Sometimes black coffee helps, or plenty of fresh air.
I should have said, I can't stand coffee.....but Red Bull is a possibility.....
I had a really bad time with stress earlier this year and couldn't sleep, and was reccomended a natural herb product called Valerian.
Absolutely did the trick for me but does leave you with a bit of a drowsiness hangover at the beginning of the day.
Once my sleep pattern was back to normal I didn't need it anymore
Can be bought in most health food shops

There is a whole range of stimulants being sold, normally though they seem to end up back with caffeine. I use Rocket Fuel, a high power coffee from normal supermarkets with Guyana extracts. However at the end of the day you need to take a break...
I have done it a few times, made it through 12 hour days for a few weeks, gone with no sleep, in the end your body will stop you (I got a serious cold that took me off work). So you may be able to push for a while more, but seriously start planning to slow down.
Their are many types of these drinks BUT I do suggest a herbal remedy as it does NOT include too much carbon Dioxide...which is common in the drinks, and makes you fart like a trooper.... wink
The trouble with caffeine drinks and pills is that they give you a boost that is very short lived. Once it wears off you're more tired than ever. If you really do need to stay awake for a prolonged period of time, the best thing to do is give your body natural sugar - little and often. Bananas are pefect. A bit of fresh air and a banana and you can keep going for that bit longer cool . Not good for you regularly though... sleep really is good for you!
Helen, I'm a bit puzzled, you do not say why you need to be awake for so long. Surely getting enough sleep should your top priority, then it's a matter of fitting everything else into the (waking) time left over? Or am I being old-fashioned? lol
Mike.
Ummmm mike, I'm a student which means I'm poor and I need to fit my working hours around that.....so I only end up getting about 5 hours sleep a night.....nothing I can do about it.....
Oh sorry Helen, I see the problem....fresh air and bananas sounds less harmful than some of the other suggestions though.
Mike.
Hi Helen,
Sorry must have been typing the coffee note as you wrote one saying you hate coffee
Okies I done the student thing as well, and Blue right about keeping sugar up. Little and often, good lighting and air, take it steady and look forward to the hols when you can collapse...
Alternately a computer expert other half who types all your assignments for you works. I thought I seen the last of em when I left my degree, before Mrs TnH decided to go for one rolleyes
I don't think it helps with it being so hot at the moment....it just makes me more tired.....

Good thread, guess who`s going to bed right now, I`m exhausted! Popping back to the doc tomorrow to hopefully rule out Post Viral Fatigue. Just wanted to let you know I empathise, and that this thread is handy for me also. smile
(yeah Iknow, it`s all about meeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! silly)
Seriously though hun, don`t burn yourself out :therethere:

try cutting out caffine entirely - no tea no cola. Will take some time to have an effect and for your body to adapt, but your sleep patterns should go back to normal after a bit.
Sorry DH, no wise words, just a large amount of concern.
Sleep is one of the things your body and mind cannot do without.
I understand what you're trying to do, but just listen to what your body's telling you and try to take a break every now and again.

Stay awake??????????
You need more sleep!!! You need between 6 to 8 hours sleep a day!1 (looks sternly)
Blue/Mike's advice sounds good to me - fresh air and bananas. Also, I would suggest, a bit of exercise. It probably seems counter-productive and you might think you have no time for it, but believe me, it can do you the world of good. Nothing too strenuous - just a little something to raise your pulse, get your adrenaline going. Will beat the groggy feeling.
Good luck, DH xx
Just for the record, fresh air and bananas was first suggested in this thread by Blue - I was just repeating it....
Mike.
Thanks for all your help guys......I'm going to buy some red bull and banana's and get some fresh air every now and again and hopefully that will help....
Try power sleeping....
This may not be the version that I heard a few years ago but this works for me when I don't get enough sleep (some people might just call it a snooze or a nap!!!)
If you have 10 minutes spare find somewhere to sit down on your own, preferably somewhere quiet. Relax yourself by taking some deep breaths and change your thoughts to something other than your day, week, general life. Close your eyes and begin dozing, let your thoughts wander and ignore the outside world. The trick is then to just let yourself drop off into sleep, for me there is a change of conciousness that I can spot. At that point wake yourself up. If you have more time repeat the process. I find if i do this there may be a slight difference immediately and more noticably at the end of the day I am not falling asleep into my dinner.
If i repeat anything that has already been said i apologise, but
As a student, i can not only sympathise with the gorgeous one, but i may also be able to help.
Quite simply, DONT DO ANY WORK.
I'll be here all work :P
Being unemployed at the moment I wholeheartedly agree with wulf_angel. No work does wonders for energy and sex drive.
A bit of 'Billy' might help for the waking, some mellow G for the sleeping.
Yeah I know.... coat.
Can't say G helps me sleep, it sets my imagination off on crazy jaunts for hours........
Assuming G is what I think you are referring too......
If G is what I think you are referring it, how is dreamerhelen ever going to concentrate on studying if she takes that advice, and as for "Billy"..... she won't even sit down long enough to open a text book

you might find the caffine in red bull provides a temporar boost, but if things atart etting worse when you are not on the red bull, do consider cutting out caffine entirely - it;s often the root cause of sleep disorders.
