I suppose what im saying is they strike me as almost pretentious , in the way that its all such hard work . Its like the amazing quality of their music is some 'great secret' that only those who 'understand' would appreciate . I dont think music should be that way , and its just my personal preference but i think sometimes when it comes to songs using complex lyrics with hidden meanings where a simple line with a good melody could have been is less entertaining . .

Well said that man !! Yes, Radiohead are OK but they're not as accessible and thus don't influence the majority of the music-listening public in the way that for example the Beatles (and their clone - Oasis) do... Not decrying them at all, but I reckon it's all about music snobbery (is NME still going ? lol ).
Manics should have won anyway.
Ant.
p.s. who honestly owns most albums in this top 100 ?? I'll start the ball rolling with 27 which includes some I'd rather not admit to..
From someone who likes music to make themselves feel better, I'm well aware of the talent Radiohead have, I just don't like them - they always seem to put me in a very melancholy mood
I've got 21 and would only want another 3 or 4 of them.
<hijack>
Just found out that we're going to see 'Fakeloaf' in July    <end hijack>
I've got 17. By the way, what happened to Astral Weeks by Van Morrison? That's a particular all-time favourite of mine, and usually comes high up in these album lists.
Mike.
Weve got 24 off the list biggrin
I'm actually very surprised that theres no Cure in the list as theres quite a big comeback in their music at the moment and Kiss me,kiss me,kiss me and Discintegration are fantastic albums.
Now for all of you who see Radiohead as not being groundbreaking and inspirational, look at certain invented new technology to perform music (and they use it when they play live),they wrote and recorded Lucky in a single day for the Help album (which i think should be in there too). How many bands have the talent to do that, very few and the song is amazing.I'd also imagine that most recent bands would name drop Radiohead as huge influences.
How much more groundbreaking can you get??
Wow - I manage to clock up about 40 of those in some form or other redface
Have to enter the Radiohead fray here though. Don't agree with OK Computer being No 1. I reckon they cheated to stop The Bends being No 1 again. Becuase The Bends is the best Radiohead album. cool
Aaah - is it morning?. Where's my coffee? Waiter............!!!

 I couldn't have put it better myself I wouldn't say it puts me in a melancholic mood though .... more like a coma

Thats a great list of albums. BUT surely there is one glaring ommission?
Des O'Connors greatest hits?
*ducks and waits for the gunfire*
I liked Happy Mondays Depeche mode, OMD, New Order cool But one of my personal all time greats was Jeff Waynes War of the worlds 8-) , I think it would be a bit risky voting for michael jackson giving his present situation confused
well i have 30 off the list, which i am happy with. Would of like to see more Floyd in there, Moody Blues, and even early (peter gabriel) Genesis. But hey taste is taste.
As for Radiohead, i think their fanbase would agree that they are an influential group, however that is not in the mainstream vain of say "Dido". If like me, music forms a backdrop to life they certain albums hold a much more special place than others.
For example, Morning Glory reminds me of meeting my wife for the first time, so that will always be a top 5 album, whereas Dark Side is the awakening of my very own opinions about life. When Ok, Computer was released what was going on in the world for it to a milestone in music history?? It may have more to do with what the album means to people rather than the quality etc of the album, a much bigger picture perhaps?? confused:
As feed the world is not a great song, it just represents an image that makes it great.
BB
IMHO Morning Glory was pretty much the defining Britpop album...
Just a few early thoughts really, sorry if any points have already been mentioned.
When was the cut off point? I would have expected to see Muse, Absolution in there.
Morning Glory spawned more hits and was far more polished than Definitely Maybe
I like OK computer though occasionally have to make sure Im not listening to the Beatles White Album. I find KidA pretentious but detect a definite passion from its followers.
Comments such as "XXXX are crap" and "XXXXX" is the dogs are pointless and not relevant. Music is personal, spiritual and means different things to different people.
I don't think there was a cut off point... OutKast managed to sneak in and that's pretty recent.
It's wierd though - which current albums today do you reckon will be revered as classics in a few years time?
I thinks Keanes album will be in there, as well as bands like embrace etc.
But most deffo one has to be Morriseys last one, I am the Quarry (i think???) is great.
But then that is me! hehe
BB
Hmmmm Keane, can see why they've got appeal, never really like them...
Can you believe I've never listened to Morrissey - best check some out!
I guess Green Days` album is fast turning into a "every househld must have one" and I agree that Keane will be too, as will scissor sisters.
Scissor Sisters - Good call, along with Maroon 5
but then do you like Oasis's new song....... must say im not impressed with it.
And where was the "breakfast club" soundtrack! OMG Molly Ringwald films, pretty in pink.
Must say that my fav soundtrack album is from "the craft" good memories from that one.
BB
It's Okay, but hardly a belter.
Ever since Morning Glory, they've been going further and further downhill...
...am gonna buy New Order's new album today, got high hopes for that one!

The new New Order one is great you'll love for recent albums that possibly should have made the list,The Doves-Some Cities is fantastic and already looks like being possibly the best album of the of course unless Coldplays album turns out to be a belter, but its their tricky third and theyve got two awesome ablums to follow.
As for Morning Glory being the defining Britpop album,i think that crown goes to Blur with Modern life is rubbish and not album started the whole Britpop style.
oo, oo, oo, oo, blur albums great.
What about the charlatans?

Thats the only problem i have with Radiohead. They get you down.
But i suppose all great musicians are manic depressives. Wasn't Pink Floyd songwriter Roger Walters one too? i may be wrong

forgive me if i am wrong but did syd barrett write the early stuff?
i can't think!!
i like the early stuff with him anyway.
ummagumma is a good one biggrin
Yeah syd barret did write alot of the early stuff, , have u ever heard any of his solo albums he did after pink floyd? strange but very wondefull.
Where the hell is the Stone Roses?????
and I'm afraid I dont agree with The Smiths finest being 'The Queen is dead' its so not as good as Hatfull of Hollow, but thats opinions for you.
Amazed at some of the omissions. Theres far too much 'disposable pop' in that list for my liking.
I'm sorry but ts something I feel very passionate about.
Don`t worry Orpheous, Stone Roses are there. I nearly made the same mistake complaining about the lack of ABBA.

Thank God for that. I must admit i did flick through too fast. But bloody hell you would have thought there was room for now thats what i call music volumes 1 to 56 wouldnt ya?
Blimey steve_lincs, how long it take you to type
