Can anyone tell me how to install windows millenium in a Toshiba satellite 4030 CDT laptop please, it already has windows 98 on it but I don't know the password, so I cannot get in, although I have tried, I cannot install my own disc and I am stuck, any advice would be much appreciated.
Thank you in advance for any help!
P. S. I have never used a laptop before.
You can bypass the password on a windows 98 and 95 Instalation when the login screen apears just click on cancel and it wil let you in.
If you do get it to work you might not want to plug it into the net. I don't think Micro$oft are patching ME any more so you could be at risk from all sorts of cr@p.
It probably only has 64Mb RAM so won't play well with XP. You might be able to add some more but I think the is still a bit low for XP.
I cannot do that because there is no log in screen & Windows 98 only flashes on for a second & then goes blank again.
If you hold down the C key while the laptop is booting up it will automatically try and boot from the CD so put the Windows ME disk in the drive hold the C key that should then start the Windows ME install.
Any help needed just ask
Is that the one that looks like a George Forman grill ? ( and can you do cheese toasties in it ? )
Win98SE with all the updates is a more stable operating system tham ME in my opinion.
While Microsoft are issueing no more updates the existing ones are still available.
As to passwords Win98 is easy to defeat.
Not sure if I can say how here.
As you must have another PC to post here do a search on Google 'Remove Pasword Win98'
No need to reinstall operating system
Also for the 'net I recommend Firefox as your browser.
Also you need Antivirus and Firewall regardless of being on dial-up or broadband.
Freeware AVG antivirus and Zone Alarm firewall (Version 6.1 as 6.5 is for XP only) far better than nothing.
As an ex helpdesk person if I remember righly the old laptoptop won;t take this version of windows. There were trials on thie computer and it was found that the software took up to much processing space (that is if its the old gray tosh laptop)
boot into safe mode and it will let u log on, u can then remove the passowrd etc from there or change the log on config, remove any network settings etc. the password is normally asociated with the OS being tied into a network. Or go into regedit and remove the password key or set it to 0. If all else fails boot from the 98 cd and re-install 98 ver 1 will go onto that particular laptop 98 vers 2 may go on it .. avoid ME like the plague, or win 95 if u want it to run really really fast...all 3 OS i have. Or if your local drop me a line..lol
Thank you all who have repied to my post! have noted the advice & will use it as and when.
