Hmm I think I'll probably end up in admin for the time being as I don't have it in me to change direction completely  jobs are useless in the paper sad :( beginning to wonder if I did the right thing now
Hmmm, staying in a place which treated you like crap, or opening up some time to look at other options...... :uhoh:
Tough one that!
Trust me, there are loads of options, you just haven`t found out what they are yet! wink

I just wish I had your courage...life's too short to stay in a job that isn't right for you.

What are you looking to do ? just being nosey cos I seem to remember your being well educated?
No not me .... I have a good general education but nothing really just secretarial qualifications mainly.
I want to go into midwifery but lack the confidence to do the degree and so I'll probably go back into admin.
Just do the diploma then.
The grant for that is not means tested. It is for the degree. smile

It's a confidence thing ... dunno about the diploma ... the degree is a killer though sad
Might just stick to my idea of doulaing ... not as called for but only £250 to pay and then I can work ...

Two jobs are in GREAT demand at the moment:
Occupational Therapists
Physiotherapists
Hospitals just can't get enough of them!
Also great demand for good medical secretaries (basically you need medical terminology - easily sorted with a course or a dictionary and good audio typing - say about 50 wpm).
I agree with you that newspapers are not a good source of jobs. Businesses advertise posts because they are obliged to by law but most jobs go to insiders or friends.
Better option is to register with a couple of agencies (but don't tell each other you have another agency as they won't bother placing you!) Office Angels are brilliant if you live in London and Blue Arrow, too. I don't know if you are accustomed to working for agencies, they usually give shit jobs to newcomers but if you prove yourself and get good reviews you grow in their estimation and get paid better and have better offers.
PM me if you need further info. smile
Good luck!
And Speech Therapists ggrrrrr don't get me started on that one mad :x :x

Tania,
i so wanted to do Occ Therapy when I was at school but I have such a shedload of stres at the moment that I just don't have it in me to do the degree (in anything).
I work in admin and my shorthand is rusty but I could cope with Med Sec but tbh I just want a change of direction. I've just come out of working for myself relating to new parents and thoroughly enjoyed the job :) Midwifery is where that stems from.
I'm in Derby and am familiar with agencies (worked for one for a couple of years) and hubby was a Recruitment Consultant.
Thanks.

Calist hun
In what other job would you find the joy of a brand new day wraped in such a sleepy way.
Go for the Midwifery hun and enjoy and share the joy of others.
All the best in whatever you do hun

Believe me if I'd had the choice I would've gone for a new job first but the nervous breakdown that was imminent if I stayed was a much worse prospect sad
I can easily pick up tempnig work so the skint bit doesn't worry me too much.
Thanks for the support everyone

Silky changed her direction comletely a while back , and like many great people I know she also had a lack of confidence that a long time in similar jobs can create . I can only say the same thing I said to her , when your new employer meets you they wont be able to believe their luck at such a high quality applicant . Youre a bright and balanced person that even shines through on this silly board , in person id guess more so .
Like my wonderful Silky part of your charm is probably your inability to see how valuable you are , and those close to you im sure will confirm that you are an obvious asset to any company or organisation .
Good Luck From G n S
Well as we are talking about looking for new jobs, i want to resign from my current one.
Current Job Description
Anything the company needs doing I do It.
So i get a nice email from a job agency saying would you like to put your CV foward for a job. I say yes in hope to end the pain and suffering of my current job. The company in question calls me for an interview.
Anway get the first interview, in wich i say i have to give 3 months notice, they say fine.
Anyway have second interview a week and a half later go through same crap!!! tell them current job been nearly in 2 years and have to give 3 months notice. fine they say you have the skills we are looking for.
Then this afternoon job agency calls, sorry they say the company doesnt want you not enough experiance.
Now I am sorry to say wot the F**K. It took them my C.V and 2 INTERVIEWS to realise this. I am furios as I have wasted 2 weeks pissin around. Now I would never work for the new company anyway if they cant be bloddy honest.
I am so tempted to resign from current job and become a statistic for the govement and to spend more time in SH towers.
Mike
Calista, there are mixed feelings about recruitement agencies, but I found mine really helpful. Just one interveiw, and you can bounce around until you find your niche. Some even offer some training. Admin work is easy to find, but there are more health and social care agencies cropping up, you`ll be able to work toward an NVQ with one of those.
Just a thought smile

Things will get better, they always do....you just have to remember that there IS a light at the end of the tunnel and you'll find something that is totally YOU and what YOU want to do......

I know how you feel Calista,
we went through same thing some years ago, i had a really good job, excellent pay, but worked for a right ****, eventually told him to stick it.
Things do get better, honest.
Pity ur not closer to us, i could do with help on the admin side, and i know plenty of peeps who have there own small businesses that could too, unsure whether there's an oppurtunity there, but might be worth a look!!!.
Hope ur situation changes soon.
HnA xx

Well .... I do have a home office .. was considering becoming a virtual secretary some time ago just never got round to it. PC & Fax (currently being repaired) photocopier etc all at my disposal ~ must get my arse into gear.
