Hi Im a newbie here so go easy on me!!!
I was at the U2 concert last night and was wondering what anybody else thought? I was impressed by the band, Ive always been a big fan, but the whole thing was spoilt that the verbal ranting of Mr Bono!!
Am I being unreasonable in just wanting to see one of the worlds best bands play live and not wanting to listen to his personal opinions, however valid or not they may be.
Not really in line with the usual thread's on here but hey lets be different!

:lol: Didn't actually go to the concert but from where I live you could hear just I couldn't hear everything especially Bono going on with himself (thank god) but did hear the song veritgo very well.
Unfortunatly that is the problem with Bono he does have alot of opinions which he doesn't keep to himself and I suppose when he has a captured audience he is going to express them .Whether you agree or not.

Bono's always spouted his opinions. From the British in Ireland to Anti-poverty.
I think popstars should be more political it might get the youth more engaged.
I remember the Red Wedge tours and anti-racism gigs of the eighties the music was great but it made me think as well. U2 are from that era. How many major bands in their 20's are overtly political.

Thanks for the welcome countess, it was a good gig on the whole and I hope you weren't too disturbed by all the crowds and noise ( at least you didn't have to fork out £55!!)

ggggrrrrrrr don't you talk to me about pigging U2! someone . . . who shall remain nameless . . . was working there last night, and rung me up to boast about it while The Bravery were onstage.

I was so shocked to see the bravery there, i was expecting to see a lackluster performance from maroon 5, but to be greeted with "Hi we're the bravery" was so great.
Also, while they were playing 'an honest mistake', i managed to slip into the front section, i thought they were just letting a certain amount in, until i was inside and noticed that everyone else had these white armbands on them. So spent a good time there until i wanted to go to the bar, and noticed they were checking for the bands as people were going up to the bar. So i hung about the enclosure a bit longer, made a couple of friends, and got them to go to the bar for me! RESULT! :twisted:
That videowall they had while U2 were on was amazing, just like all the pictures i'd seen of past U2 events. When i first saw the stage i was worried that it was going to be a toned down event. Boy was i wrong!
Great performance by U2 themselves, but i wanted them to play "Sweetest thing", awh well, can have everything, but at least i got to be within a meter of the edge, one of my fave guitarists of all times

i love festivals aswell, which ones are you going to? Myself, i only managed to get tickets to the leeds festival this year, but hopefully we'll have another 'move' festival in manchester! Which i'll definatly go to

However Rem are playing LCCC on friday, and then the weekend afterwards I am flying out to Roskilde festival in Denmark for a week. Some fantastic bands on the line up there and the facilities are the best I've even seen at an international festival! :D
I know there are a few gigs coming up at the city of manchester stadium too, Oasis is one of them. :D
I can't wait for friday now! :D :D :D

Actually, i agree, the bravery were mediochre, they just put no heart into it what so ever, and they just couldn't get the crowd moving either. I thought "an honest mistake" and "fearless" would get the crowd hopping, but it just didn't seem to be the case!
My brother works for SJM (the tour managers), so hopefully i'll be able to get some tickets out of him for Oasis when they come around. Should be a great gig with them being in city's ground, it may even be the next "Maine road" gig if we are really lucky :3

Oh and the REM tickets, I bought mine on ebay for £18 when it should have been 35! :D and they tend to keep a few back to sell on the day (well they did today at the U2 gig) to keep the touts from making money. Always worth asking. :dunno:

lol, i don't detest them, but anything after the morning glory LP has been pretty damn dire, i really hate the new album as it's just lazy. it sounds waay too much like an oasis tribute band.

yes i did go to the gig tuesday nite and oh y god the band were brill still bring a chiver down the little spine of me as the programe says they are the only rockin roll band who aren't living on there back cataloge
the first half of the gig was brill but as well meaning as bonos sermons are if i wanted that i would go to church on a sunday instead of lying in bed fiddling with myself
but when it comes to music as a gig you can't ask for better all i can say is keep the music live
