I really can't believe some of the comments that were posted in this thread: University Challenge - Twat Alert?
The hypocrisy of complaining about how students use there time, when so many comment on posting in the employers time. Aside from that, don’t we still live in a society were people get to choose what they do with their time?
Not only that but to comment for the perceived wasting of tax payers’ money is truly amazing, could this comment be attributed to anyone who receives some sort of transfer payment from the government (whether this be child support, employment benefit or any form of social security). It is like me complaining that if I was to purchase a product their firm makes, some of the cost goes towards paying for them to browse at work!
Not only do students no longer receive grants, but they amass a staggering amount of debt during their studies (most will leave with in excess of £18500 worth of debt, and will have paid another £3450 towards the cost of the studies).
Would the same sweeping generalisations be made about firemen, Asians or 40 year olds? I doubt it, and would certainly hope not.
I strongly feel that education is vital for the advancement of an individual as well as society, and that everyone should have an opportunity to do so – as mature student that went back to university after several years of working I am very grateful for the opportunity (which I fully intend to take full advantage of, even if I do find time to post a comment every now and again).
Some of you should be ashamed of yourselves (in fact most of you should , but some if you for all the wrong reasons!!)
