What would you consider to be the most over and under rated movies (actually any subject you can think of) of all time confused: :?:
For me the most over rated movie has to be Titanic, what a pile of crap!.And to think this film won god knows how many Oscars and is the biggest grossing film of all time.
The most under rated in my opinion is Fight Club. This film was snubbed by the American press because it was released the week after Columbine (even though its got nothing to do with High school shooting!).It is now one of the biggest cult films around,a complete masterpiece from start to finish.
And while i'm on a roll,football.
David Beckham, definately the most over rated player ever.
Jimmy Greaves,by far the most under rated!!!
Hasn't Jimmy Greaves got the highest goals to games ratio for anyone that had an England career ?

Yes but he was mostly under rated for his England performances.
He was one of the most prolific scorers for England, but is hardly ever recognised for it.
All he gets recognised for these days is Saint and Greavesy!!!!
Over-rated, I'd say the Matrix follow-ups - oh, no, sorry, everyone thought they were naff so they weren't rated at all rolleyes
I'd agree that Fight Club was a very under-rated film - excellent movie lol

Haven't seen either of those films ~ I'm not a film person ..... for me one of the most overrated films was T3 .... came out of the cinema wondering if I could sue the makers for wasting my time!
Underrated .... I guess The Secretary for me. It's billed as a BDSM film but in fact it's a beautiful (love) story and is a brilliant watch. Too many people were put off this film because of the overhype on the BDSM side, so it never really got a mainstream viewing .. more indy sad
As for football ... pfffftt..

I think he is under rated by people that don't really know that much about football, people that do know, know what a great player he was. Great story about him in Mexico 1970 when Bobby Moore got arrested for stealing a bracelet in a jewellers and was being held under house arrest at the British Embassy Jimmy Greaves broke in to go and have a beer with his mate...
Most overated I can think of off the top of my head would be 'Full Monty'
like a second rate carry on film for the nineties.
While im at it 'Dirty Dancing' .............I could eat a dictionary and shit a better script .
Under rated would be 'Sexy Beast' ....totally bombed and went to video immediately even though it contained great performances and atmosphere and possibly the best surprise portrayal of a psychotic by Ben Kingsley ever !

I also thought that The Full Monty was shite, everyone was raving about it saying it was a better British film than i saw it i thought it was tripe!!
Another british stinker for me is Love Actually,it's as if they got every famous british actor and threw them together.
Never had the chance to see Sexy Beast yet, must download it (i mean rent it).
Over-rated: The Blair Witch Project. So scary it made american audiences scream and puke and die of heart attacks? No chance...
Under-rated: Starship Troopers. Yes it was silly. Yes it was cheesy. Yes, that was the whole point!

Sorry but i'd have put it the other way round.
Blair Witch scared the shit out of me and Troopers was pure tripe.
Another under rated footballer,Matt Le in a glass dunno

but he never did it 'big time' He was a very good player but never did anything for England (limited appearances) It would have been interesting to see if he could have done it at a big club where he was surrounded by better players than himself.

I don't think at his prime there were many better players in the country.

I agree! But I'm a Saints fan and so could be slightly biased... He never got the chance to shine internationallly, I think the country as a whole lost out there...
Well ive contributed to the film one so ill try the football sub thread . My knowledge of football is very limited due to being brought up in a family of Millwall supporters , and the fact that I prefered to spend my teenage years actually getting laid and drinking . However I would have to say that me ol mate Vinnie Jones was a grossly under rated footballer . No flourishes or dazzling flashes of sublime ball control , but a stalwart reliable constant rock in defence running out and doing his job week after week in a club that could barely raise funds for the half time oranges and yet still getting results .His international career was sadly blighted much like Ryan Giggs due to his Welshness.
Apart from all that Silky fancies the pants off him , and gets all frisky at the mention of Gone in Sixty seconds .

Well i'm a Man Utd fan so completely unbiased,he would have fitted into any of our sides.

Damn right Giggsy is without a shadow of a doubt that Giggsy is one of the most under rated players ever.
And to think where England would be now if he had chosen England over Wales, the world cup wouldve been ours if he had played for us
But hey at least we have him at United, and that goal he scored against yuckkkkk Arsenal yuckkkkkk, was outstanding !!(till he took his top off and got out his hairy chest) confused
Giggsy has been at the top of the game now for over a decade and has scored some of the best goals since the Premiership started.
He proved just the other night that he's still one of the best with a great goal, that only a player of his stature could make look so easy.
Simply one of the true United greats, next to the legend Geoge Best (when he wasnt out shagging and drinking)
where do i start.
firstly starship troopers was 1 of the worst films i have ever seen.
sexy beast was incredible but im a huge ray whinstone fan.
as 4 football matthew le tissier was unbelievable! if he played 4 man utd the england manager would have built the team around him, like sven tried 2 do with scholsey.
but the question i ask is if man united would have bought him would he honestly of got in the team over oooh aahhh CANTONA??
as 4 giggsy u will be suprised he is not actualy as under rated as u think he is. inter milan have offered untold millions 2 prise him away from man utd but fergie wouldnt let him go and he was happy being a united legend. and in the premiership he is feared by ne full back.
he never did nething on the international level cos he chose wales but playing year in year out in the champions league he is feared across europe.
claire i agree if he played 4 england we would have the most fantastic midfield.
By the way talking about under rated films have any of u seen the film CITY OF GODS??
and if u have wat do u think???

Add that one to my download (sorry rent) list
Awww.... so much hostility towards Starship Troopers. I guess that just proves how underrated it is!
starships troopers was absolute cack!!!! biggrin :D :D
i could be really controversial and say that the entire lord of the rings trilogy was over-rated.... but i'd like to get out of here alive...... bolt
as for under-rated...i agree with everyone else and say sexy beast... 2nd favourite film,
can i suggest my favourite film as under-rated...."dogma"... quality...
as for under-rated football player... being an arsenal fan, i have seen a few come and go, but two that were absolutly adored by section 17 in the clock end were perry groves - the ginger genius... and john jensen - the man was our idol!!! :D :D :D :D

Dogma is definitely one of my all time faves, I love all of Kevin Smiths series (View Askewniverse I think he dubbed them, that was before he did that luvvy duvvy one with Ben Affleck and I think J-Lo confused )

England? Big Time ? This surely merits an inclusion in the oxymoron thread.

Sorry, he never did much in an England shirt (except hatrick for England B v Russia B I think that was in 1998)
Le Tissier was a good premiership player at a twobob club.
By big time although southampton are premiership we all know premiership is four section top 4 (2 london clubs, liverpool and MU, UEFA cup positions, relegation and mid table) He didn't play in Europe and prove himself against the best as people like Giggs, keane, shearer, cantona, adams, gasgoine, zola, speed, Phil Neville has more in his tropey cabinet than le tissier!!!!!
Paul Scholes.
Hate Man U, but my man Scholes is God.
Movies - Harold & Maude (you're all to young to know that one) is just... woah.
Star Wars - all of them - tripe. But that's just personal opinion.
Titanic - Total bollox. Absolute waste of time.

I would have to agree with you here, the books are some of the best ever written, but the films, while looking nice, changed some of the plot and added a stupid love story with the wrong girl loon .
The third film,Return of the King was billed as the greatest film ever, and had amazing reviews>It bored the crap out of me!!
