We'd appreciate some help.
We are keen to find an upmarket club in the UK, ideally not too far from Oxford. Being relalistic we know we'll have to travel but hopefully not more than a couple of hours.
We've visited several UK clubs but all seem to be aimed at a pretty non-discriminating membership.
All suggestions gratefully received.

Sorry to interject a note of seriousness (I promise not to make a habit of it) - but was the 'upmarket' comment aimed at the club itself and not the members? Sappho and I have only ever been to one club (after the very first NW munch three years ago) and it was, frankly, rather seedy. We keep threatening to go to another one but haven't done so yet (Utopia would probably be our nearest).
Likewise, the comment about 'discriminating membership' could well refer to people who care about the quality of their surroundings and not about any discrimination against people whatever.
I would quite like to know that a club I was going to was clean and well looked after and not shabby. I would not expect the clientele to be selected - in case we failed the selection criteria!
Perhaps the original authors could let me know whether I have interpreted their thread correctly.

I think it was that part of the original post that led people to think that the clubs don't care who they allow through the doors. :dunno:

This was a situation we found ourselves in a while back. Tried a couple of places and were not impressed.
We tried ABFAB near Heathrow and been there a few times.
The facilities are pretty good, it's clean and well laid out. The people going are a range of ages and attractiveness but we've always found people to be polite and relaxed.
We don't play with other couples, love to watch and be watched and in that sense it is good for us.
Not too far from Oxford either!
