Vanilla Non-kinky, "traditional" sex, usually between men and women. Also used to describe people not involved in the swinging scene who are seen (perhaps wrongly) as having "traditional" attitudes to sex.
To be fair I had never heard of the term before I came here but I guess I assumed people who are here would already know. Made me feel like a proper expert... don't worry, it didn't last long!

Did you know the word "vanilla" is derived from the latin word "vagina"? Apparently thats because vanilla pods look very similar to vaginas!!

It interesting the use of the word *vanilla* , Im not in the *scene* but in my mind I dont consider myself vanilla, yet other members would because I dont swing so I am a *vanilla* in those terms.
In my little world I feel that vanilla is a state of mind and I dont feel mine fits in neatly in a vanilla box....I have to many thoughts, feelings, interests outside the *norm* and have an acceptance of many things that some would consider to be outside that box.

Vanilla is used a lot on the gay scene to describe non-kinky sex. The exact definition of 'non kinky' is pretty much up to the individual, I suppose - any kind of gay sex wouldn't be 'vanilla' to many people I would think.
There is a lesbian pub/club in Manchester called Vanilla, I like it in there lots due to many of my friends being regulars/staff. But this is beside the point.
I'm a little outside the swinging scene despite being on here - I'm not really here to play though do harbour fantasies of bonking anything that moves - I'm more here for the whole alternative sexuality bonding thing, as my sexuality has always been fluid and its only recently I've come to terms with it - going from gay to straight depending on the gender of any longish term partner I've ever had. My practices have always been fairly vanilla, but my fantasies have always been kinky, if that makes any sense.
