Apparently normal condoms usually contain a milk protein called casein. Being a vegan myself, I'm planning to stock up on some. But I was wondering has anybody got experience using vegan condoms? I'm interested in brand recommendations, and if they function as well as traditional ones.
Condomi do one. I don't know if they're freely available in the usual condommy places. You used to be able to buy them from the Vegan Soc web site but it's a long time since I've looked there.
It's the only vegan condom I've experienced so I have nothing to compare it with - and am no longer vegan anyway!
Happy shopping etc.
Is veganism really that complicated??!! What about leather shoes, belts, wallets etc? How about cardboard boxes? The glue used in them has an ingredient derived from animal urine. It must be very hard to know what you can and can't morally use?
By the way, condoms don't actually contain the casein; it's used in the manufacturing process.
A bit like why wine isn't vegetarian - bits of fish used in the process!
back in my vegan days I had some Condomi condoms JJ1981, and had no trouble with them at all.... of course, I never used them except in my career as a mule, but all the same, no trouble whatsoever.
